I like how that model is the closest to a factory built class B van as the rear leveled off section is where many factory build class B vans place the roof A/C. Very good choice if you want to look as much like a real class B! Like that style a lot!

Thank you very much for the interior and roof top views. Thanks for letting me know that the weird drop in the back can be replaced with a smooth uniform height. I totally didn’t understand the purpose of that drop space. I’ve looked and looked to try to see the views you’ve shown. 💕💕💕

Turned out really nice. Looking forward to seeing the completed build. 2 questions. I've heard just after they install one of these, the smell of the resins and fiberglass are really strong. How long would you say the off gasing lasts. I'd be driving a long way to get to their shop and a long way back during that off gasing. I can only imagine how difficult it would be driving back home while inhaling all those noxious fumes. Secondly, would they install awning type windows instead of slider windows? Something like the arctic tern windows that would work better shedding water while open during a heavy downpour is what I had in mind. Thankyou for sharing and taking us along during this process.
@benpryce
10 ай бұрын
There's definitely fumes if its a fresh top. I suppose you could ask Fiberine to let the top cure for a few weeks before you pickup. As far as I know, they only install their windows. You'd have to call them and ask if they would do something different. Worst case, you get a top installed without the windows, and then install your own windows later.
I think we'll be visiting Fiberine someday soon 'cause'a you. Thanks.

Awesome video bro. Going to get one added to our Chevy Express Passenger build. How much extra weight did this top add to your build? Thanks
@benpryce
6 ай бұрын
Thanks craig. was a fun vid to make. Definitely recommend these tops for the express too. I dont know about weight tbh, you'd have to ask Fiberine. You can keep weight off of your install by not adding the extra reinforcements. The roof reinforcements weigh the most, and are only necessary if you want to mount a roof rack through the roof, instead of through the walls. Wall reinforcements are much lighter. Just ask Fiberine what they recommend for making the top light as possible.
Hi Ben. Awesome video! I was just wondering, without Colonel Sanders revealing too much of the secret seasoning, what does Fibreine use to seal the outside perimeter of the high top with? I have a Chevy Express with a fibreglass high top on it, and that rubber looking seal could be replaced? I don't know what to call it, or where to buy it to replace my decrepit one with. Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
@benpryce
Жыл бұрын
thanks for the compliment. For sealing the outside edge, there's a number of outdoor/marine sealants you could choose from. As for the gutter rail of the van, that is a special automotive sealant which has a lot of volume and density to it. To repair that, I'd highly recommend taking it to a body shop and having the professionals do it.
I want to do this to my work van I could put my miter saw and table saw plus extra everything in the front section. Just would need a ladder rack on top.

Prices of these tops are a bit ridiculous. I was going to buy the transit style top and have it shipped because i live on the east coast. The top was around $5700 for the basic one, un finished with no reinforcements. They estimated around $1500 to ship an a whopping 10% CA tax. So just about $8000 for a top for a van with a blue book value of $6000. Yeah...i think ill build my own thank you very much! I bought a camper shell for my pick up truck with tilting and sliding windows, reinforced roof with a rack, carpeted interior, a light, door lock actuator that works with my factory keyless entry and it came painted to match my truck, all in for $3200. There is no reason the vans roofs should be so expensive!

Buy some pvc foam and fiberglass it yourself, you could use epoxy instead of polyester, it will be stronger and no off gas. Cost you less than a grand, will be a superior product and will be lighter. For 9k that thing is cheaply built

How does the top effect MPG? Looks great.

Hello bro. I have a question about the price of the roof, and is it possible to ship it to Oman? I bought a 2009 GMC Savana and want to raise the roof. How i can contact to the factory? In addition, Do you have some tips and recommendations for me? Thanks

my questions are does fiberine guarantee against leaks? and for how long? 2nd question, does the high top make up for the rigidity lost by cutting the roof out of the van?
@benpryce
Жыл бұрын
Good question. I don't remember their warranty off the top of my head, but Im sure they do guarantee against leaks. The way the tops are made (with a reverse flange) also makes leaks virtually impossible because....gravity. And yeah I think by the nature of physics, the top does makeup for the rigidity from removing the old roof, especially if you get the reinforced top.

My guess based on their website is they don't have a lot of capital for R&D to advance their designs on these toppers. Kind of a shame because if they could spend money on advancing their designs based on market trends they'd be a lot better off. Econoline campers are hugely popular because there are so many available in the used vehicle market.

When you are one of what the two companies I believe it is that make high tops for vans you don’t change much because you don’t have to and no one‘s gonna really pop in and replace you. as far as their website, it seem to be more of a word-of-mouth kind of business so yeah, the website could use some work and pricing.

@benpryce
5 ай бұрын
The cost is more determined by the materials and labor to make the top, not which van its going on. Pricing is comparable for all of the models. I think with tops and install, you're looking at $3000-9000 depending on which topper you chose and what add-ons like windows, and reinforcements you choose
