This is a guy who should have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame long ago. He was a perfectionist, which was a big reason he didn't go on the road much.

Gerry lived his entire life with crippling bipolar disorder, and self-(over)-medicated with alcohol. As someone who craved peace and quiet, he regularly got panic attacks when away from home - touring was simply not for him. He may have justified it to the _outside world_ as perfectionism, in the same way people would still rather phone in sick with a stomach upset than say 'I'm too depressed to get out of bed'. Men of Rafferty’s generation simply didn’t (still don't) discuss mental health. What a monumentally splendid talent he was. 🤍

Gerry Rafferty was in a band called Steeler's Wheel..... They had a great hit song called "Stuck In The Middle with You". That's another song you guys will love

I was lucky enough to share a pint with Gerry very early in his career when he was playing in a folk duo called The Humblebums, amazingly with the comedian Billy Connelly. Genuinely nice guy and I don’t think either of us could foresee the amazing career he would go on to have that cold winters night a long time ago ✌️

OMG, that’s awesome! Been a fan of Billy Connelly since the 80s when he was doing stand up comedy and before I realized he’d been a musician for decades prior. Of course, I grew up listening to Gerry Rafferty’s music but knowing how close he and Billy remained until Gerry’s untimely passing always warmed my heart. Thanks for sharing. I’m sure you cherish that memory. ❤🙏🏼

It does my heart good to see younger generations giving some love to these OG's - this came up into my feed because I've been learning this song for my set (I play and sing). It absolutely is a fantastic song, sung by a great songwriter who had his struggles with alcohol and died way too young.... Thank you guys... very good to see.
Another classic….his Baker Street was magnificent

It has a lovely quality - a tone of velvet coated in dark chocolate... Such an easy voice belying the story underneath. 😔
Songs in the past were witty, thought provoking, had stories, were actually sung without electronic intervention, and had real people playing real instruments. We need to get back to that.
This is from "Night Owl", the album after the previous two songs, but yes, that's Raphael Ravenscroft on the saxophone again. Ravenscroft wasn't part of the band, but when Gerry needed some sax appeal, Raphael is whom he called. The title track to "Night Owl" is worth a listen, too.
When this song started playing, I had a vague memory of hearing it. A little way in, I started singing along. After it was over, I wondered why it wasn’t in my classic playlist. It is now. Thanks.
My Favorite Gerry Rafferty song. Soulful and a great message. Amber, I love your Stevie Nicks shirt.

This is very 70's , very good.Gerry had his own sound.
Another fantastic song by Mr. Rafferty.
The legend that is/was Gerry Rafferty, his music will be played at my funeral, he has give me & the world a sound that has never been heard before or again, god how I miss him. 🏴🏴👍👍
You can't help but tap your foot with this song. It takes me back to high school. Great tune.
Of course, you can Always tell His Voice, and this is Probably my FAV Gerry Rafferty Song! So COOL& Jazzy! Happy to see Amber Loving the Sax! Great Reaction, Guys! :)
Great Song with a wonderful sentiment "Get it Right Next Time". Raphael Ravenscroften played the sax on this track as well as on "Baker Street". Besides the bass, the Piano and Organ parts add to the laid back feel of the song. 🎸🎷😎
I thought everybody'd forgotten this song. Oldies radio only plays "Baker Street". Once in awhile you'll hear "Right Down the Line", with its amazing steel guitar. This one gave the sax man another chance to shine.
I had never heard this before. I really liked this song.
oh! great choice!! amber "gerry rafferty's" second best song ever. good one and love the reaction. ; )
I'm surprised no one has mentioned "Home & Dry". That's my favorite song by Gerry. The other ones mentioned are great as well, but "Home and Dry" is well worth listening to, as well.

Yes!!! The best GR song ever!
Love this record, there is so much space in it, space for the intro, space for the lyrics space for the solos, space for the horns Very well done indeed.
The primary job of the bass and the drums is to "hold down the bottom", e.g. be the timekeepers and foundation of the song. All the other members of the band key off of them and do what they do based on that foundation. I love it when the bass and drums get a chance to show their stuff!
One of my fav Rafferty songs is "Days Gone Down", easy, smooth, nostalgic

That's often the case with me, l see an album being reviewed and immediately want to dig it out to play.
One of the finest singer/songwriters to come out of Scotland.
Gerry Rafferty was amazing and this song is one of his best....you named a couple other songs by him but I noticed you didnt include Home and Dry...I think you may like that one as well...Its one of my favs...
Gerry's song "Home And Dry" is also a good one along with his old group Stealer's Wheel song "Star" from '73.
Please, please, please, dig deeper into Gerry Rafferty. He is one of the most talented composers and musicians, while also being one of the most underrated and unknown artists of his time. Why? Rafferty did not tour. He had a huge distrust for the corporate end of the music industry. Rafferty was also shy, preferring not to perform publicly, but to create in the studio. Combined, this led to a lack of marketing support from his label and a lack of visibility to the public. The general person on the street ONLY KNOWS five(5) singles from his first two albums! Rafferty has AMAZING music with one of the most unique mixes of instrumentation you will ever hear, influenced by his Scottish heritage, distinctly Rafferty. For more saxophone, try his "Standing at the Gates."
Thank you, guys, for playing the greatest rock and roll of the twentieth century. Try some Jethro Tull live. It's performance art.
"Star" and "Everything Will Turn Out Fine" are a couple of hits he had with his former band Steelers Wheel that y'all could dive into.
Fun fact: Gerry Rafferty went into pop music when his folk duo ended. The banjo player in the duo went into stand up comedy. Name of Billy Connolly

@@markkauder1288 hi mark, also her majesty Mrs Brown was excellent. I always call that movie "the littlest samurai" 🙃
My favorite Gerry Rafferty song. It's like your sitting down with someone close and having a conversation. The subtleness (sic) of the individual instruments in the beginning. This is him having a conversation with you. Great song.
It's like Gerry's got some jazz undertones going too. Jazz overtones too! My bad...some Marvelous stuff here folks. Marvelous stuff!!!
Thanks Rob Squad. I used to hear this song in the casino in Gary, Indiana back in the late 90's (Majestic Star?). Was such a chill song with great message and musicians. RIP Gerry.
If my memory serves me right the BBC used this for the theme song of their ski programme "Ski Sunday" in their opening credits, with some spectacular falls on the down slope, Gerry was always so precise with his lyrics, and his melodies and arrangements were second to none.
Another one I always liked but didn’t know who sang it. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.
Awesome. More Gerry 🔥🎶 = Home and Dry & also Days Gone Down.
Love Gerry Rafferty's music, R.I.P. 👍♥️🌞

I know we're not far away, but Gerry Rafferty was born in Ferguslie Park in Paisley.
This a totally cool 😎 song, kind of like a hybrid of blues and pop.
The BBC editing department did a video of outtakes and bloopers, called White Powder Christmas, and this was played in the background.
"Days Gone Down" is another great Rafferty song~😊
Such a message in this song. Don't blame someone else pick yourself up, learn from your failures and do better the next time around. Things that are of real value are earned, through hard work, persistence and GOD's grace. so many cool elements make this a banger. Bass, Sax, guitar, drums, keyboards, it is all there. And, WHAT a BEARD on the drummer!!! Rafferty is amazing.

What happens if you are _unable_ to pick yourself up, Alan? As Gerry himself wasn't?
And we are back with Gerry Rafferty, yesss. He was taken from us way too young, but left us all this great music. What a gift. 🎵🎼
Yes that was the same sax player on Baker Street! Raphael Ravenscroft!
You really have to listen to Gerry Rafferty songs "Night Owl" and "Royal Mile". Pure brilliance.
Yes I’m so glad u guys did this underrated song. So chill so mellow. Baker Street of course is a masterpiece ♥️ To me it’s partially about alcoholism. I’ll never forget when my husband was getting better & temporarily on the streets we heard Baker Street in the car I got goosebumps & of course it reminds me of my childhood & is just a beautiful song, as is this & Right Down the Line. This & the video is Soooo 70s- love it!
I think it was around 1979, when I bought the album...'City To City'. I must have bought it because 'Baker Street' was on there. But it wasn't long before I really fell in love with the entire thing. R.I.P. to the great Gerry Rafferty.
He was also in a band called The Humblebums with the comedian Billy Connelly and the song called ( Shoeshine Boys )from 1970
He started out with comedian Billy Connelly in a band called Hunblebums, later Be illy went into comedy while Gerry created Steelers Wheel.
This is my favorite by Gerry.
That song came up on youtube for me a day ago and I have listened to this song over 50 times since then.
"Night owl" is another great song by Gerry worth checking out guys...lovin your reactions 👍👍👍
Greatest, most uplifting and useful "message" rock song I've ever heard. These are very important lyrics to remember set to an INSANELY groovy and swingin' song. Perfection both artistically and entertainment-wise.
This is SO 70s. Man, I miss those times!
Done another great sax player Junior walker and the all stars . The best sax player in motown history!! Shotgun , take me girl I’m ready, roadrunner, what does it take to win your love. All great motown songs . The best sax you will ever hear!!
Gerry rafferty was also in an early band with a certain scottish fella called........ "the big yin" mr billy connoly 😊 (might be a sir...)
Wow, I haven't heard this song in sooooo long. Good bluesy tune. Gerry has a distinctive voice.
Awesome. "Days Gone Down" should be next, with the same studio video.
Loved him with Stealers Wheels "Stuck In The Middle With You", and his solo hits "Baker Street" and "Right Down The Line". Such a sad ending & legacy (alcoholism) for such a brilliant singer, songwriter, musician and record producer. RIP😟 BTW, I completely forgot about this song. Thanks for the reminder.😉 Peace & Love🕊❤
This is a cool song. Don’t know how I missed this back in the day.
Cool song with a blusey vibe.
It's been a minute, so thought i'd remind you guys to check out another beautiful song by this talented man "Whatever's Written On Your Heart"...you wont be disapppinted ❤
Saxophone played by Raphael Ravenscroft....Yes, the same guy who played on 'Baker's Street'.
such an excellent songwriter
There's a artist that needs to be spotlighted his name is Ren the song is Hi Ren
It’s exactly what it’s all about - just have fun creating music…💯
Love Gerry Rafferty's voice and music! So glad that you've found him and love him too!!! ❤️❤️❤️. His music reminds me a lot of Steely Dan too. Just kind of jazzy, bluesy, and so cool!!! ❤️❤️❤️
A very underrated song its fantastic
Another great song by Gerry, also filmed in the studio, is Days Gone Down. A great song with amazing harmonies and musicianship. Gerry was a perfectionist and you can hear this in all his music. There's not a single song of his that I don't love. Wishing you and your lovely family all the love and happiness in the world ❤
I'm very surprised that I cannot find anyone reacting to Gerry Rafferty's "Home And Dry". It's from his City To City Album. It made it to #28 on Billboard. I think it's as good a song as Baker Street and even better than Right Down The Line. Those 3 hits are what helped made that album such a success.

"The Ark".....should be your next Gerry Rafferty selection, very inspirational 😇
RIP Gerry, love his music, great reaction, God bless you, peace and love from Atlantic Canada's
Another Classic Including Gerry,, Stealers Wheel "Star"
One of his best love it
Yes, that's Raphael Ravenscroft on Sax again (Baker Street also). This is a great song that doesn't get much play.

Such an underappreciated artist, and one of my favorites. So glad you came back to Gerry. Try "The Ark" next!

One of my favorite artist
Speaking of Gerry Rafferty you need to react to Star by Stealers Wheel, his former band from which you've already reacted to Stuck In The Middle With You.
Love Gerry Rafferty. So many great tunes.
Amber, don't ever apologize for your country accent 😉
Fantastic! Gerry Rafferty was tremendous.
Love this song! Aside from the message, and the last verse is just brilliant, it's so well put together. Banging sax solo, and then as the song winds up, it sounds like it's not in the studio anymore, almost like the player has done his bit, but the music has inspired him so much that he's walked off and is *still* playing, almost as an invitation to follow.
You should play this for the girls! 🎶 A clean song with a great vibe and a great message. ❤
Loved that track , there’s a whiff of Steely Dan in there , more due to the era than lifting a sound piratically. Put a smile on my face anyway RIP Gerry 👍🏴
The production and tightness of this track is like listening to a Steely Dan track - aiming for the perfect and absolutely brilliant
Not one of his three big hits, so it doesn't get played often enough. Great song, thanks for doing it. You guys have mentioned a number of times how much you like Saxophone but you still have not done "Lily Was Here" by Dave Stewart with Candy Dulfer Playing Saxophone. You really need to do this one. Try to get the video version. Can you believe I had to retype this comment? The first version got me a "returned error" because I used the three letter word for saxophone instead of spelling it out completely.
Love Gerry Rafferty! RIP! Amber don't ever be sorry for your southern accent. I have one myself.
Oooh! Good one. It's often overlooked so I was excited to see you doing this.

MAGGIES RAG written for his 12 year old daughter about coming home from the road to see his family.. one of his best!
This song creates a very different kind of atmosphere than any other song I know. It gives a feeling like it's getting ready to explode, but it never does, it stays calm, like floating an easy slow flowing stream.
