I think this song is brilliant. Its amazing how a song from the Peninsular wars, sung by our troops when they were fighting Napoleon, and then shown on Sharpe, is re-invigorated today!!! March on boys, you're doing Britain proud!!!

I forgot to to mention the Supreme Sacrifice, that sometimes paid by finest Army in the world. I have had a 23 year career with the Reserve Army. ( 3.5 years with 4Para (V) the hairs on the back of my neck, go every time I hear this beautiful song. We WILL remember them.

I Salute you John Tams a great tribute to all those people who have kept us safe through all the conflicts against this country unfortunately sent into battle by less noble leaders and politicians and into conflicts they themselves would never partake in. The immortal words of a great poem comes to mind…….. “OURS NOT TO REASON WHY, OURS BUT TO DO AND DIE. GOD REST ALL OUR GREAT WARRIORS AND GOD BLESS YOU ALL. for my grandfather and father and all those have served.

@BritishPatriot3 We've got lads like that here in Canada, too. The TransCanada Highway between Trenton and Toronto has been renamed the "Highway of Heroes" in their honour...every time a hearse makes that trip with a flag-draped coffin inside, the bridges over the highway are crowded with people, many of whom didn't know the soldier inside, and are still crying. A very, very big thumbs up, indeed.

I have loved this song from the first moment I heard it and was one of the first to buy the Sharpe CD when released. Beautifully done again with the Rifles. I have very fond memories of past friends in 2RGJ where I served 79 - 86. God bless the Rifles, former 'Jackets' and all our previous regiments, who gave us so much history to be proud of. Makes me so proud

there are no words to say how proud i am of all who have and r fighting for your country my thoughts also wuth the familys who have lost loved ones ur never alone.

All I can say is:- I've got tears!

My grandfather was in 1st Battalion, The Rifle Brigade, serving in Boer and 1st World War being awarded a D.C.M. so I have a great affection for The Rifles, although I didn't serve with them when I was in "the mob"

Bob and Angie lived here in Pyla Cyprus,it was in the March at a boxing do at Alexander Barracks,we were drinking and he said he had a lump in his throat,6 months later,he was gone,RIP Bob,a proper gent.

Aww so glad they get the honor they deserve. I'm so glad they are being recognized for what they have been doing.

My sympathy to you and your family Nick, my sympathy with all the lads and lasses who gave their lives or been affected by conflict. My life was shortened, I feel, by my son's service; my ears were glued to the wireless, bad times. Truly bad. He gets married next year.

A very poignant reminder of what our Service Personnel and their families have to endure and sacrifice on an almost daily basis. Stay safe, stay strong, work well together, with support from your units, your families, your Oppo’s and your Civvy friends. Can't believe this song dates back to the peninsular wars.

This song is 200 years old, and is about the horror and separation of war, and soldiers marching unwillingly into battle. It still is. I want ALL the brave boys to come home safely, whatever their nationalities, never to have to pick up guns again, never again to suffer and die. For whatever cause, for whatever flag.

can i thank you and your family for your brothers bravery on behalf of this country. unfortunatly people seem to have no respect for our great fallen anymore. im very sorry for your loss

Love this song..and love the images ...i dont believe in these wars made for an elite..but being from an italian military family background (my uncle died in the take of Gorizia 6 august 1916, and was awarded the Silver Medal..his body never recovered)i respect the soldiers who lost their life and those who returned .The decisions are always taken by the politicians , the soldier only goes where is ordered and nobly does his part.Respect.

i love this song and it reminds me of my lad when he was in afghanistan last year and hes due to go back next year

Good on you mate! I was in the Falklands in 1981. I saw some of my mates killed in front of me. Some of my mates were white, some were black and Asian. We were soldiers and we were mates. We didn't care about race, religion or anything else because the man or woman standing next to you could be the one to save your life. I was and still am proud to be British and so was every solider, sailor and airman who stood along side of me. We are British and bloody proud!

How is it that a truly great piece of music by great artists (both Tams and the members of the Band and Bugles) for a worthy cause (Help for Heroes) gets less than 300k views in nearly 12 years of being on youtube, but a piece of "music" by talentless hip hop/ R&B / pop / rap artists created on a computer can get millions of views in just a few days. At times this world is truly depressing.

We must remember all those that die in fighting the allies and the enemies the good and the bad th eguilty and the innocent. And as many soldiers march to war never to return again but come back covered in flags and glory we will remember them.
