Big budget does not equal better. For me atleast for example. My favorite Dune is the campy sci-fi miniseries. Could be nostalgia who knows but i found the low budget endearing to me and made the cast have to be that much better.

Iconic song for an iconic series and not to forget the iconic sharpe books. I'm from Austria and my children are visiting a french school, but my son and I we love to sing that old british song. In other versions this traditional song traces back to the early 18th century and the times of queen Anne. In Austria we don't have such iconic military songs like this and others (british grenadiers, Marlborough and me....).

After the disaster at the bridge that caused Major Lennox to die the South Essex is broken up leaving Captain Leroy with no command, but Wellington reforms it for the Battle of Talavera . Simmerson runs away as expected and Leroy holds the line, repulsing the French with Sharpe's new loading technique and the day is won. Sharpe's Light Company is detached from the South Essex not long after, so Leroy stays in the South Essex and rises to its commander. Seen many such films, TV, video clips. Just thought - once hit, they fall to ground and lie still. Reality was shattered limbs, shocked silence, then howling and swearing in pain and holding or pressing on injured area (both alleviate the pain) - as with any bad sporting or construction trade injury. Very few would die gracefully and quickly. By contrast, Christopher Lee was in a film where director wanted someone knifed from behind to go down with noise and struggle. Lee pointed out that's not what happens. They can't make a sound as lungs punctured. Lee was in SOE in WW2. Cast and crew quiet after he said it

These are films and TV series there is a thing called health and safety, has with anything to do with war person safety comes first. Most of these people have training and know how to fire and pretend to die, swearing might look good but then the rating for what should be a family show changes to adults only. War is war and blood etc might look great but for those of us who have to wear our uniforms it's a pain in the butt to get out fake blood. You don't have to watch these programmes if you are looking for real blood and guts.

If front line, you should fall hit or not. Then you wait for the next line be in front and get up while officers look the other way. Only sensible thing to do in this most silly style of warfare. Hilarious if everyone on both sides had done that from the start...or turned around and shot their own officers. World peace achieved...

The French were brave Soldiers, ill served by bad Generalship. They definitely do not deserve a bad rap. The French troops fought hard while British troops evacuated the continent in the face of the German invasion in World War Two. And as if to prove a point, it was the French Charlemagne Division that fought literally to the last in Berlin against the Soviet hordes. And again against the Communists in Vietnam. Properly led, the French Soldier is the equal of any other.

@@snerper Not by something you could guard against. Like a foreign military. The migrants are something different. The soldiers could not guard against them beacuse they are mosty legal as "refugees". If the soldiers should defend against them the government would first have to make immigration of "refugees" illegal. And it has not done that. So the soldiers would just stand guard on the beaches but not be permitted to do anything. It is all a problem of politics. Not of military power.
