LOVE CRIMES OF KABUL (Full Documentary by Tanaz Eshaghian)

-
Jailed for running away from home to escape abuse, for allegations of adultery, premarital sex and other "moral crimes," the women of Afghanistan's Badum Bagh prison band together to fight for their freedom.
Produced and directed by Tanaz Eshaghian, "Love Crimes of Kabul" follows three young prisoners as they go to trial, revealing the pressures and paradoxes that women in Afghanistan face today, and the dangerous consequences of refusing to fit into society's norms.
This riveting documentary straightforwardly captures the Afghan theocracy's soulless treatment of women (and men) who show human affection and express the love in their hearts. Moreover, it reveals how religion-based laws have corrupted those relationships into exploitative prostitution, and turned judges, clerics, parents and relatives into pimps.
A very bleak subject presented with a delicate soundtrack make for a very sad film. Please watch and leave your comment below. Thank you for being a loyal viewer of us!

You took the words out of my mouth. This sentence seems to symbolize the whole dark idea there that a woman's life is measured based on the question of who is the man next to her. Very sad + Clearly unethical. The father of that woman who was in prison said that now, when she agreed to marry that guy, she would be the servant of his family, but her father himself does not see her as anything more than his own property, an object, a means of getting rich through her being sold...very primitive

Life could not possibly be worse for women in Afghanistan since the Taliban returned to power. Women can’t work outside the home. At first, I really felt bad for Kareema, but as her story started to unfold, the more things started to seem calculated. She told Firuz if you don't marry me, I'll have you locked up. She didn't say it was because she was pregnant, she said it was because was in love with him and couldn't deny it. When they got married, she said she asked for 30K because she wanted to be married forever and he should want to be married forever, too. Tbh, she seemed obsessed with him, and for Kareema, the pregnancy had little to do with the reason why she wanted to marry him. It's okay to be in love, but you can't trick or manipulate someone into marrying you. That's just crazy.

Even if they want to work, the fuckn government don’t allow them to work, the only rights they have is to put that money onto someone who they marry. And thats the only fuckn rights they have to secure their foundation at life. All the father ever talks about is money and his honor. He sees his daughter as something to make money out, And she is right, when she said what will happen to her if he divorces her? She is a pregnant woman In a culture where women are treated less and have to be constantly controlled by men. So she of all people would now how much monetary value she would need for her survival.

The laws are so twisted that the female would be punished for being raped. The lack of respect for the women was obvious. A woman only has value according to the dowry and servitude. When the judge talks about the downfall of society, he is talking about the men losing power. And the hatred between tribes despite the fact that the religion is about peace. I feel bad for the true victims in this documentary but Kareema is NOT a victim but a stalker who got to marry her prey. She is clearly unstable and controlling. But since it’s okay for the men to victimize their women it’s rare it goes the other way around.

What will she do ?? He had sex with her and got her pregnant and when she asked him it didn’t look like he was willing to marry her.. considering her father who wants money through her, she would’ve been compelled to marry someone else and even if she did, when the guy finds out she is not virgin, she will be stoned to death… so her only option is to lock the guy who took advantage of her..

I just love Aleema, what an amazing young woman. I'm so proud of her for being strong in her convictions even under such an incredibly unfair situation. I hope she's not been harmed by anyone since this was filmed. I have the same hope for all these women, what they live under is so unfair that they really can't win. I wonder when this was filmed and where they all are now. I fear things have gotten far worse since then.

Clearly the only reason the guy is marrying her is to avoid 15 years in prison and she’s at the courthouse arguing about getting a dowry and gifts. I don’t think she realizes the gravity of the situation. He and his family will make her life unbearable.
