Lots of Updates: What Kind of Cancer Do I Have?, Back To The Hospital + What’s Next…

www.gofundme.com/jessicakrock
Hey everyone - First of all, I want to thank you for the support and words of encouragement. To say I am overwhelmed by the response is an understatement.
I can’t believe we have surpassed our goal on GoFundMe, and many of you have asked if we will be raising it. While we are still accepting donations, we are leaving the goal as-is until we can get a better assessment of what funds are needed. This is going to be a long road ahead of both cancer and fertility treatments. If at any point we have money left over, I can assure you that we will pay it forward to others who may need it for their cancer treatments.
This has been a crazy week for us. On Wednesday 6/22, we went for a post-op follow up appointment and received the pathology report, which was a lot to process. It turns out that the ovarian cancer I have is quite rare, and I also have (technically had) a second cancer that they believe has been fully removed.
Here is the primary diagnosis I received:
1. Stage III large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the left ovary, locally advanced (serosal and muscularis involvement of the rectosigmoid, para-vesical involvement with encasement of the left ureter). *Note: This one has NOT been fully removed.
2. Synchronous FIGO grade 1 endometrial adenocarcinoma of an endometrial polyp (remainder of the curettings were benign). *Note: They believe this one has been fully removed.
I returned to the hospital on Friday 6/24 for an outpatient procedure to place a stent in my ureter. If you’ve been following us on Instagram, you know that I’ve been experiencing a lot of pain and nausea. After another CT scan revealed that I still have hydronephrosis, I went to a urologist who recommended we have the stent placed. Everything went well and I was able to go home the same night. Since then, I have had a lot of relief from the pain and nausea.
We have also been taking steps to ensure that we can build a family in the future. We began the process of egg retrieval, which starts with 14 days of injections. This is not something I was expecting to go through on top of everything else we have going on, but we need to act fast before they start my treatment.
So, what is next? The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota is currently reviewing my case. I am hoping to hear back from them early this week about making initial appointments and putting together a team to help me fight this thing. I will likely need chemotherapy, additional surgery (possibly a hysterectomy), and possibly radiation.
As you can tell from the information above, this is going to be a long road. The cancer is aggressive, and we are prepared to put up a fight. The best way to follow along for real-time updates is our KZread Channel at / krocksinthekitchen and Instagram at / krocksinthekitchen .
PEEF, Hope & Love,
Jessica 💜💙❤️

My brother was diagnosed with neuroendocrine carcinoma of the colon 14+ years ago. They knew very little about it as it is a rare cancer. He went through surgeries, chemo, and radiation. 14 years later and he is doing extremely well and remains cancer free! 🙌🏻 It is possible to beat it! My dad had a neuroendocrine tumor 22 years ago, but I don't know exactly what kind it was. We called it pancreatic cancer, but the "good kind" because it's slow growing. He had a Whipple procedure that lasted over 8 hours. As far as that cancer was concerned, he was fine until about 7 years ago they detected it again. But they haven't treated it and are monitoring it. So my dad has done pretty well over the years. But I guess there are different types of neuroendocrine cancers, some more aggressive than others. I don't know, I don't want to google it.

My oncologist at that time said I had 2 years to “get my life in order,” etc. I changed my entire diet - became vegan -and also found a superb supportive therapist. Each day is truly a gift. 14 years later … I’m doing very well and living a normal life. My oncologist remains thrilled and surprised! Anything is possible. Anything. About 15 years ago my then-middle aged step sister seemed to have bronchitis. She coughed a lot and couldn’t seem to shake it. She went to the ER one day because she was having trouble breathing. They took a chest X-ray and told her they didn’t see anything, that she was okay. A few days later she was still having problems and they told her again that nothing was wrong. She insisted on a CT scan of her lungs. They discovered she had several tumors in her lungs which turned out to be lung cancer. It had even spread to a few lymph nodes. She saw the oncologist and he told her that she didn’t have long to live, they couldn’t treat it and to go home and enjoy the little bit of time she had left. She sought the opinion of a cancer treatment center and was given hope. She had chemo and radiation and surgery to remove the lymph nodes. She COMPLETELY kicked cancer ass!!! This was about 15 years ago and she has remained cancer free!!! I know a quite a few people that have gotten rid of their cancer… I only mention my step sisters case because she was given such a poor prognosis but defied the odds!! Never give up hope!!!! And above all else continue to laugh and find joy in all things and keep a good attitude. Hang in there y’all!!! 💗💗💗

Wow, when you just used the phrase “flying Colors” it reminded me of my best friend. At 32, she was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer. It had spread all over. She wasn’t given a lot of hope. It was in her colon, bladder, and other places. Then, she went to a special clinic in Atlanta, Ga, who treated her with surgery, natural foods, juicing, and a small amount of chemo. She didn’t even lose her hair. As she went into surgery, her husband told her she was going to come through with “flying colors.” When she woke up, she had! She was already a daycare owner, but a few months later, she opened up another one, and called it Flying Colors.” She is now 56, and living her best life with her kids and grandkids:) I have a really good feeling about you! And I will be praying my rosary for you! God is a healer!

Jessica, I am praying for you. I was diagnosed with colon cancer in April 2021. When you first hear the word cancer it is such a shock. To get past the mental paralysis and depression I had to remind myself everyday "I am here now." In December the right side of my transverse colon was removed using DaVinci. I only have one kidney, two autoimmune diseases, and had to lose over 100 pounds before they would even do surgery (lots of obstacles). I say this because my case was also complicated and very serious. I just had my 6-month follow-up and am doing well. You are young and strong, and you have the right mindset. I have complete faith that you will do well with all surgeries and treatments that might be in your future. You can do this girl! You will beat it! You are strong and you have an amazing husband for support. Though we don't know each other I am thinking of you and sending you love and healing energy every day. God bless you.

It’s going to touch peoples lives in ways you can’t even fathom. @Jessica, I loved the short haircut on you, and you are still beautiful without hair. Have fun rocking those cute hats, they looked fantastic on you! Love of love and prayers headed your way.

You must remain ready to do battle with your insurance company. Many companies simply reject each claim and you may well need to keep pushing, through the appeals process, and insist that the insurance honors their policy terms. If your insurance is through work, you may need to get your HR person involved.

I had this at 25 starting in my Uterus. I had 5 surgeries in 4 years. Thankfully no chemo or radiation. Definitely opt to have as much done surgically as possible at one time. They didn't do that for me because they didn't want to throw me into early menopause. It was a nightmare of major surgeries. Sending prayers your way.

Hi Jessica and Brian! I’ve never been one to post but I have been following you for years and have just related to your journey so much. I’ve been praying for you since I heard about your diagnosis and now I feel like we have one more similarity. I, too, had a neuroendocrine cancer but mine was pancreatic, when I was 36 years old, as well. That was 12 years ago and I have been working on making myself healthy ever since. I only learned about WFPB about 3 years ago thru Mastering Diabetes as that was one of my long term side effect of my cancer. I already had my daughter and she was only 7 at the time, so I had to survive to raise her as a single Mom. I don’t envy the fertility treatments, but no matter what happens, this is your journey and just do your best to keep a positive attitude and know how loved you are: by your family, your friends, your viewers but also by God. He’s watching out for you - as you had symptoms, as I did. Ovarian and pancreatic cancers are often found too late as you don’t always have any signs until it’s spread, so I believe that God has great plans for you! Lean on each other, on your family and friends. Some days are going to be hard and scary. You are very firmly in God’s hands and he is guiding you where you need to be and who you need to be with. Try to find peace and take care of yourselves! Much love, Katie McDaris Marks, Spokane, WA

You just popped up in my feed for the first time so I listened to your story. My heart hurts for you because I know how scary this is.I became symptomatic around 40.I went from doctor to doctor and they all refused testing saying it was menopause. My boss confided to me that she had ovarian cancer as a teenager and told me to insist they do an ablation. They didn't want to but did it.There was a polyp that crumbled when they tried to take it out in one piece. It was cancer.I was angry that it wasn't dealt with years earlier, but thankful it was gone after a complete hysterectomy. That was 2007.I'm in Pittsburgh and was at Magee Women's hospital. We also have Hillmans Cancer Center that does experimental treatments. Your husband is such a sweet, calming presence. I will be keeping both of you in my prayers.Cancer treatment has made great advances.

I want to share with you that my dearest friend had a Stage 4 cancer diagnosis in 2018 and was given 6 months and is here, kicking ass, and there is no sign of the cancer (which was metastasized!). So glad you're able to go to Mayo in Rochester! They are wonderful! My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer one year ago and he's been treated there. Through their expertise, he's been in remission for the past 8 months and his numbers and scans continue to look great. Mayo is at the top of their game with cancer research and treatments. We've been told that the advancements in the past few years are nothing short of remarkable. Everyone at the clinic and hospital is so accommodating and caring, as well as incredibly efficient. We live just two hours away, so haven't had to spend the night too often. There are many hotels connected to the clinic- we stayed at the Towne Place Suites just a few blocks away- I highly recommend them. Shuttle service provided. Check with your insurance company about cancer patient resources. You can often get mileage and hotel reimbursements as we did. My very best wishes to you both- I know exactly what you're going through, the sheer terror and uncertainty of it all. Know that Mayo has your back!

I'm so sorry to hear this news. I was diagnosed with complicated endometrial cancer in 2011. The pathologist said I was presenting with 10% papillary serous carcinoma as well--multiple cancers like you. I was looking at chemo, 5 weeks of external radiation and 3 rounds of high dose internal radiation. A little voice whispered to me, get a second opinion. I thought with all my doctors, including my gynecological oncologist and my radiation oncologist, I had a second opinion. NO! You need to get a second PATHOLOGY done on your cancer. I had to go pick my cancer and take it to City of Hope and they sent some slides to Johns Hopkins. Turns out, the original pathologist was WRONG. Please have a second pathology done. Robert Kurman at John's Hopkins is an expert in complicated mixed tumors. Much love to you. G

Having worked as a secretary in an outpatient oncology clinic as well as an inpatient oncology unit, I know that the diagnosis can be very overwhelming. It's a lot to process. Just take it one day at a time. Smile at the small stuff, laugh when you can and it's totally okay to be emotional! That's normal. I hope Brian, as Jessica's main caregiver and support, that you also take time for yourself. It will be an emotional process for you as well. It's okay to be emotional and have days where you're frustrated/upset etc.. Don't be afraid to ask for help because caregiver burnout does happen. Much love and keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers.

Hugs! so glad you are feeling better. Overwhelming issues, but you can hang in there!!! And yes, you do not want to be so "special" and rare -- I had a kind of leukemia that normally occurs in children -- but I was 49 -- and they told me it was easier to cure in children. But I did get over it and am 64 today and even got married for the first time after cancer. Obviously, I did not have to deal with the fertility issue, but one step at a time and I am glad you are saving embryos. Your attitude is great -- and I am glad you have such a good community -- that makes a huge difference. Plus you have Brian and your parents. Hang onto all those good people who are praying and sending you good thoughts -- that is the best medicine.
