I so admire your kind replies, I would lambaste the rude @holes!... which is one of the many reasons why I don't have a channel! Like many others I'm sure, I can so relate to the struggles on your journey! When I went WFPB 10 years ago I reversed all kinds of chronic diseases, weaned off a slew of drugs including narcotics and antidepressants, and went on to lose over 150 lbs. I felt better at 60 than I did at 30... but life had some nasty surprises! First my adult son passed away. He was so proud of how I got healthier...so I stayed faithful to the program "for him", because personally I just stopped caring about everything and I felt totally broken. Still, the weight starting creeping back. A short time later, my cheating husband showed up at the door after his girlfriend had a stroke and had to move into a care facility. In the 5 years he was gone from here I'm wondering if he didn't have a stroke or some other serious issue because he went from a big, strong, burly, obnoxious, loud-mouth, to a wasted, shriveled, weak, unbalanced, invalid who can barely speak and can't even take care of simple hygiene. He had nowhere else to go, and he does own the house, so despite my horror I am forced to cohabitate with him! Over time I've gained back 50 lbs and it will not budge unless I fast. New health problems are rearing their inevitable ugly heads so it's an imperative! Talk about frustrating!!!

"Why are you still fat" is a rude way to ask ... but I can understand why someone would be curious about your progress if you had indeed been rigorously following the "plan" for the past 2 years. While I have never had a severe weight problem, I have ALWAYS struggled as an adult with my weight ... I'm never as "skinny" as I want to be. It's a process. I'm now 64 and still find it a challenge. Most people would probably say I'm a "thin person," but only you know how you feel. I try to eat right, I work out every day and try to be kind to myself ... that's all you can do. Yes, it IS a "journey," but sometimes the journey is the whole thing ... you may never reach the "destination." That's ok. What gives humans a reason to live is a quest. We all have our personal quests.

Ummmm, it's NONE OF ANYONE's business regarding kids/no kids. Good Golly people! You can be a very fulfilled person and not have children. None! zero! zip! no children.💥 My 40-year-old daughter has no children! And likely will never well unless she adopts. Someday. What my daughter really loves are dogs... so I have grand dogs and very well proud of it! Ha! I guess that really hit me wrong didn't it! Or maybe it hit me right!

Intermittent fasting is your best way to go. Tons of energy - I give myself 4 hours a day to eat and 20 hours of non-eating. Best thing I ever did. I was snacking all day long - felt lethargic. Started May 6, 2022 fasting and it is now June 16 and I feel amazing. Tons of energy - wanting to exercise. My clothes are much looser - I feel great!

Why are you still overweight?” This hurt me so much but then I go back and what your videos from the beginning and I feel so much better. I am 52 years old and I had bypass surgery back in 2004 and I have gain a lot of my weight back but I don’t give up. I will never ever be skinny minnie but I am happy and I love this lifestyle. I have tried almost all your recipes and I am thankful for you both. Please continue to inspire and sharing your thoughts with us. My husband and I were strict “whole food plant based”, feeling wonderful, until the pandemic hit(starting 1/2018). During the pandemic, we started eating processed “easy” high fat and salt foods. We packed on the pounds. This past March, we finally got back on track and are losing weight and feeling so much better! I appreciate your gracious response to that Instagram post😊

Here’s what I’ve learned about me and maybe this is true for you all too. I can not have “ cheat “ meals.. Even plant based cheat meals reactivate my food cravings and then I lie to myself about how eating a sweet / flour based/ processed food isn’t soooo bad. But it is. Because before too long I’m in the awful food behaviors of stuffing myself , eating in secret, hiding the evidence uggg! So no more “ cheats “ for me.

I have the same problem. I believe Penn Jillette said it best when he said that he sucks at doing moderation. Same here. Don't give me a couple chips. Give me the whole damn bag. We do it or we don't. I find if I limit the "off" days to the weekend, at least I can be good for at least five days of the week.

I appreciate your realness. Some people start on the wfpb lifestyle and never have an issue..... I did great for 4 1/2 years, lost over 80 pounds of kept it off then my mom died and I ate my grief. It's been almost 2 years and I'm still struggling to get the weight off. Still vegan but not wfpb, as I'm eating some junk food. I won't give up. Keep on keeping on guys, I'm with you.

I have seen in friends and myself, that in "struggling," the struggle takes the place of the diet. If I am "good" for a period of time, then slip, but the diet is always there in back of my mind every time I'm cheating, I think how I am struggling to be good and how I need to get back on the diet. Then the next time I'm struggling again. Part of my brain says that as long as I am aware of my cheating, and know I need to get back on the diet, I'm OK. So it becomes a new "normal" to struggle instead of diet (or be on the program). It's almost like a diet "compromise" with one foot on the boat and one foot on the dock. And I rationalize it's better than being in the water. Hope that makes sense.

No, miss, that's not rude. I've been vegan for nearly a half century and the expectation is that fat people will get much closer to an ideal weight, if not on target. Stop trying to justify this fat, slobby society--won't work.

On the issue of vegans and vegetarians being 'fat' its actually one of the questions we have heard/read over since the 1970's when we started down the no animal products path. People who are 'fat' may have underlying issues, but the fact they are striving to eat healthy and plant based , should be applauded. And as someone who has lost weight, I had to remind myself that the weight didn't go on overnight or in a week and would take weeks, months to lose. Asking about having children is something I avoid, since it's such a personal issue. Some people may ask, because they think you two would make great parents. Am curious with rising food costs has this affected your food budget, if you have a budget.

I was about 240 when I went vegan. Did I initially lose weight? Yes, but I put it all back on as soon as I found all the yummy delicious foods I could eat. When people find out that I was vegan, they would give me an up and down look. One person after doing this actually said "you don't look like a vegan". Advice from a 50-year-old woman who has lost and gained weight her whole life (twice over 100 lbs) Don't diet. Change your habits and stick with them for life. I found intermittent fasting four years ago. I lost 80lbs. But the most crucial part is after four years I still haven't gained it back. I will IF for the rest of my life. Edit to add: I think you responded correctly. Most people that are rude know they are rude. They are rude for the purpose of getting a reaction. Giving them the reaction they are looking for rewards their behavior. Rude people get off on making people upset.

I love your response to the still fat question. It's an adventure all of our lives. We as humans eb and flow....gain a few....lose some etc and sometimes it takes years to hone on into what works and what your body needs. I'm a happy vegan for 5+ years who has been overweight and underweight as a vegan. Now I'm in a good place, healthy and a proper weight for me for the first time in my 45 years. I think some of the questions simply point out the differences between people in general. I personally do not think asking if someone is planning to have children is rude. It is just an ordinary question you would ask someone you care about. And asking about the physical condition of a person who is promoting a specific lifestyle is legitimate in my view. Jessica, I think you are absolutely correct in approaching life by giving people the benefit of the doubt. Your channel has grown so much that there are bound to be differences in the way that many people think. You got this far by concentrating on the positive. Keep doing what you do best you guys! I wanted to make some changes in my life toward better health, and it was YOUR channel that got me going in the right direction. So just keep moving forward and continue helping others. There are a lot more people out there who need you!

I've been on a very similar journey in the last few years--I went vegan somewhere in 2017 and pretty quickly went (according to bmi) from being "obese" to a "normal" weight without really having to try (granted, I was still in my 20's then, I have a feeling it might be tougher this time around.) Then the pandemic happened, I lost my dad (I know you lost a family member recently too Jessica. It's rough.) and it all fell apart. I gained everything back plus some after being stable for years. I think I'm a lot like you, Jessica. I have a hard time reversing after a less healthy diet shift and there are some foods that I have a really hard time having in moderation once I have any at all (which is why plant based was so helpful for me--some things were just off the table.) I think it's great that you have each other as anchors (and also buoys?) through it all. It's hard to do alone.

I think that when people ask “critical” questions it is their own issue, they usually have a critical/negative environment around “them”. You both have been so successful over time and are continuing to follow a healthy lifestyle, being human means that we aren’t perfect! That being said Thank you for being honest and sharing how to sustain WFPB lifestyle. It does help me and I’m sure others too. Great discussion I don’t know the person intentions asking the “fat” question but it can be a ok question to ask imo. A ton of vegan/WFPB are very societal “attractive” and slim, active etc. even the moms with 3-6 kids are “perfect” crunch mommies that have privilege to stay a home making 3 course meals on a unlimite Whole Food store suburban dream etc. It can be intimidating for normal bodied people working poor to even try, so it good to see all representation/ nationalities/ body types here Also some people weight is affect by medications which isn’t often talked about online and you can’t just stop overnight. Social media is only a snapshot of what people want you to see

I appreciate your honesty and give you a lot credit for putting yourself out there. And I agree this is an adventure and it’s not linear, lots of ups and downs. It’s nice that you have each other and both have the same mindset. I have learned that even being WFPB you can still be overweight. I didn’t realise that until I started researching this way of life. I’m trying to transition to this lifestyle and I’ve never been a good vegetable eater and don’t like a wide variety, this is super difficult and frustrating but I’m not giving up. Have kids on your own timeline, whenever that may be, even if it’s never. I just had my first baby in January, two months after my 39th birthday. I could care less if people think I’m an old mom. It’s the perfect time for me and I wouldn’t change a thing.

I had my first baby at age 39 also and never took birth control stuff. In the Bible it talks about God knitting you together in the womb and knowing all your days before there was one of them Google it if you want to see it in the Bible but He is the creator of all His creation it’s not all humanly controlled. His ways are higher than ours.

In my early 30s my ObGyn said “don’t worry about getting pregant, with modern medicine I would be ok until 45.”. This is totally FALSE. Fertlity drops like a rock at 40. We tried 6 rounds of IVF to no avail, then had to opt for egg donor. I had my daughter this way at 45. She’s now 16 & healthy/beautiful/smart, but I went thru hell back then. Don’t kid yourselves.

We have been eating vegan for 18 months now. And I feel like a bad advertisement because after loosing weight and getting the 'you look awesome'-remarks, I gained weight back when life happened. Busy schedule, difficult happenings and I was back on hocolate, crisps, vegan cookies...... I find it difficult to find the clean road back. I wish I would, though. I felt sooooo good about myself, then.

This was a wonderful post tonight! Life’s journey is not always easy. I struggled during the pandemic and gained weight during it…so depressing! I’ve been a vegan for a number of years and find it hard to continue this wfpb lifestyle at times…but I will not go back to the way I used to eat. So glad I found your channel and so enjoy your channel. My question would have been…are you enjoying riding your new bicycles? Thanks for all your updates and enjoy the rest of your trip! ❤️

I just subscribed to your channel. I've been Vegan for over 2 years now. For the person that asked about why your overweight, people out there: Vegan doesn't mean weight loss. Being Vegan/ plant based means healthy. I've seen skinny people that are so unhealthy. You two look great. If you want to lose weight to feel better, than thats your choice. Going plant based and losing weight is a double challenge. How me and my husband lost weight was just either cutting out dinner or having something really light, like a apple and peanut butter. I really liked your video. Keep up the good work and keep joyful 😊 👍

You are correct, people that never had a weight issue have zero idea what it takes. But the issue with the Krocks is they are not consistent with their eating. I've been obese my entire life since a child. I am not obese anymore as I am strict with the WFPB eating. When I add avocado or cashew sauces, my weight goes up. There are some people like myself and the Krocks that just won't ever be able to consume these higher PB foods w/out increasing that scale. The issue I see with them is they are still including these items in their realm of foods to eat. The weight will drag at coming off due to it. And they need to make eating this way a habit and keep it at that as you cannot dabble here and there and expect to stick to a WFPB to lose weight.

I can always climb back on and move along on my journey. I have about 40 pounds left to go. The goal isn't just the weight loss. I have to lose the self-criticism because as a friend once said to me "We are own worst critics." Remember to celebrate the successes. One success is I have had to send my clothes to the Good Will. My wardrobe is not as large since I still have a lot of weight to lose but is very different. I am discovering me again in choices. Staying positive and forgiving with myself has been the biggest challenge for me.

I went WFPB for four months, and I didn't lose any significant weight. People need to know that you can easily eat enough calories on a whole foods plant based program to prevent weight loss. It must be combined with calorie restriction in order to begin losing weight. But the benefits from this eating is notable. I was able to lose my foot pain that had plagued me for over three years. It was excruciating, and I called it plantar fasciitis, but am not sure what it was. Ankle swelling, pain upon walking (not sitting), painful to the touch, etc. About three weeks into the diet I noticed my pain was subsiding, along with wrist pain I had left over from two strains or sprains I incurred. All that went away, and even though I started eating meat/fat/salt again, the ankle pain did not return. The wrist pains did, however. My problem with the WFPB diet was that I felt I was lacking something in my diet, and was compelled to start eating meat again. So, slowly I slid off of it. But I now know I can do this diet with a fair amount of ease should I need to. It is a great diet for clearing the fat out of arteries, as it is very similar to the Pritikin Program. I think Pritikin's program is more workable for some people who want to keep animal proteins in the diet, but want to clean up the arteries and other issues.

A bunch of people asked me the same thing. "I never saw a fat vegan before." "If your vegan, why are you fat?" People don't realize that there are just as many processed, sugary, unhealthy vegan convenience foods to eat as there are regular unhealthy foods, and you can still pig out and overeat on bread and pasta, and I don't know about you, but I have a bad sensitivity to gluten/wheat, and when I eat gluten/wheat, I pack on the pounds as my body gets really inflamed. Same when I eat refined sugar. I guess most people assume that all that vegans eat are salads. I almost never eat salad unless I have a real savory dressing to put on it. LOL

You folks are awesome! Very few of us who have been on a similar journey have not had the same issues that you describe; I have been working on this lifestyle for several years and it's two steps forward and 1 step back. Sometimes it is two steps forward and two steps back! I have been so envious that you have been on this journey together; my spouse started out well (to control his T-2 diabetes) and then basically said "no more!" Unfortunately, he isn't amenable to making his own meals, so that is an issue. I think I have hit upon a plan to make this work for both of us going forward; we'll see. Thanks for sharing and the encouragement I get from your content.
