Learn how to make Lotion Candles and give the give of soft, smooth skin this holiday season!
Lotion candles, also known as massage candles, are candles that use skin-loving ingredients to soften and protect your skin instead of traditional candle wax. The concept is simple, just light your candle and let it burn for a few minutes until a wax melt pool forms. Once the wax pool forms, extinguish the flame and either scoop or pour out some of the melted wax to use on your skin. The melted wax will be warm but not hot enough to burn your skin, so it can just be massaged into any dry areas just as you would with any other lotion.
These candles can be poured into a container you would use for any normal candle. They can also be used without lighting the wick by just scooping a bit of the container and massaging it into the skin. Lotion candles are great for soothing chapped winter skin!

Can lotion candle mixture be used to make wax melts?
Thanks for sharing! Could beeswax be replaced equally for the soy wax?

You're welcome! Unfortunately beeswax does not work. Beeswax doesn't really absorb into the skin it acts more as a protective barrier and can leave a layer of film on the skin.
Have you ever used kokum butter or jojoba oil

Can you use wood wick?

Yes - test burn to make sure that it burns the special oils and butters in your formula. Sometimes wood wicks can be picky.
Why should you not use essential oils and regular candles?

Hi Takina! We do not recommend essential oils for candles for a few reasons. They have a very low flashpoint which can be a fire hazard in a candle. They also tend to die in wax since it is so hot, their smell will often mutate or disappear all together. Some essential oils are also thick and can clog the wick while burning.
What are the benefits of this lotion rather than normal lotion

Great question! You get the added benefit of soybean oil which help deeply moisturize your skin and is not typically in lotion or creams. The warm wax gives a soothing warm relaxed feeling. Honestly it's really just personal preference and something unique!
