Today we are making lotion candles! These candles will scent a small room and are made with skin safe oils and butters that are perfect for a lotion, massage oil, or even a hot wax treatment on your leather upholstery. I know this because Mr. Soap & Clay uses them on his interior, and he's a fan.
These lotion candles are always out of stock, so may the odds be ever in your favor!

Soap & Clay is a family owned business operating in Washington State, but started out online thanks to Mrs. Soap & Clay's kickass brother and his amazing web design skills. The business was started as a tribute to Mrs. Soap & Clay's grandmother, the OG maker in the family that cultivated everyone's love for the DIY life. The studio/retail shop opened in 2017 on 6th Ave in Tacoma, and immediately began teaching soap, bath bomb, lotion, and scrub classes to the makers and maker enthusiasts of the PNW. In 2019, the pottery studio opened as well, making the soap shop a busy place full of artistic energy every minute of the day.
Mrs. Soap & Clay has been featured on Business Spotlight, New Day Northwest, and was awarded a coveted place on the South Sound's 40 under 40 list in 2019, an award given to the most influential business people under the age of 40 each year. She cried when she walked up to the podium to accept the award. A lot.
Drawing from her chemistry background and her maker spirit, Mrs. Soap & Clay infuses her favorite things into her soapy designs and creates products that are fun to see, use, and learn to make. Stick around for this ride - she'll take you on a great one.

    Dip the bottom of your wicks in your oil / butters mix & it will hold your wicks in place. Can also use plain melted cocoa butter for this. Makes life easier 🙂

    Thank you! This was exactly what I was looking for. My corn allergy has randomly gotten worse and I'm scared I may start reacting to topicals which are very hard to easily locate/find w/o any kind of corn product or ingredients that contain corn/has corn in the growing process. This was so thorough and I really appreciate that you've shared this info with us. The pen idea is so massively brilliant! I wouldn't have thought of that and since I'm an art supply hoarder I have a ton of excess that could use new jobs. Will be lurking more of your content.

    This is so awesome. I can't wait to try this. Just after the apricot oil and just before the lotus extract you added about an ounce and a half of something but I couldn't tell if it was another extract or a different oil? Thank you so much for posting this video.

    I love making lotion candles, too. I always get the urge to do so in the springtime. I have a question... Ever tried a lotion candle/mp soap hybrid? Not sure if some butters could be substituted with MP soap, but wouldn't it be awesome to enjoy a relaxing bath with a nice aromatic candle, then blow it out and use all that warm wax as a moisturizing body wash, too? Would that be possible? I suspect it might make a mess of the bathtub, but I really like the idea of it otherwise! Unless there's a safety issue with it, that seems like a fun experiment.

  • @MrsSoapAndClay

    @MrsSoapAndClay

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hey! All the wick companies seem to have their own number system, so I don’t know if I can be much help. The wicks I use are from lone star, and for these ones I use their ECO-4, which is the recommended wick size for containers 2-2.5” in diameter. This container is right at 2.5, and since it’s a lotion candle the burn temp is much lower than a regular candle, so I don’t need to size up to the ECO-6 to get a full melting pool. Hope that helps!

    Could you use jojoba wax instead of candillila wax? Or is it too hard of a wax?

  • @MrsSoapAndClay

    @MrsSoapAndClay

    4 жыл бұрын

    It could work - has a low melting point which would counteract the hardness. I’d likely do a 50/50 split with jojoba and candelilla or beeswax though as too much jojoba can be a bit drying.

    This is probably a monumentally stupid question, and I promise it's not my first and definitely won't be my last, but here goes. Would there be any either benefit or detriment to adding Hyaluronic Acid syrum or Collagen to the mix? Thanks!

  • @MrsSoapAndClay

    @MrsSoapAndClay

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi! No such thing as stupid questions. This is actually a great question, as HA and collagen are great additives to skincare and are both frequently found in high end products. The problem with both in these however boils down to heat. These are two very unstable compounds at temperatures higher than body temperature, really, which makes them difficult to incorporate into a lotion candle. I would play with including these compounds in a face oil or the like to ensure no benefit degradation. Have fun!
