Whipped! | Best body butter recipe ever | + why I hate making them | Day 97/365

I'm making whipped body butter today, and while that's awesome for you it sucks for me and I hate it. Body butters are a phenomenal pain to make but I did so because a soaprentice that we haven't seen since the beginning of Covid was in the shop and asked for some. And at that moment, I would give her anything, so I did the thing. Also made some extras for the website, so get them while they're in stock.

    I make butters as well, Shea butter alone does not have to be melted. I just go right into whipping and then add my oils. Only if I’m adding wax or a hard butter like cocoa butter will I melt it. Try it. It’s way less time consuming.

    Hey! I’ve found the consistency isn’t as fluffy and leads to more graininess with the end user after the oils and butters have started separating (usually happens within a few weeks, especially if temps are shifting, like in transport) if I don’t melt and heat. Relaxing those fatty acid chains to allow for reconversion is a phenomenal time suck, but I enjoy the long term product stability it provides. Thanks for watching!

    Hi, I’m going to attempt making this lovely body butter but before I do I must ask a question. When you say “ sit at heat for 20 minutes” are you saying to allow the butter and oil to remain in the crock pot for 20 minutes after everything is completely melted and in liquid form or do you mean 20 minutes from the beginning of the melting? I’m excited to try this, I’ve made several batches of the no heat body butter and all were grainy. Thank you in advance for clarifying the heat question for me. 20 minutes after completely melted or 20 minutes from the beginning of the heat process? ThankYou 😊

    I have 2 questions and I am sure you will know the answers because you are so talented and smart. Why do we need to melt down the butters and oils, and then hold it? What exactly does that mean? Do you just keep it in the pan of water for 20 minutes or do you continue to simmer it or what? Next thing is when do you know what needs to be refrigerated and cooled and what doesn’t? For example, when you make body butters whipped they need to be cooled, but when you make a lotion does it need to be refrigerated and do you heat and hold them also? TIA

  • @MrsSoapAndClay

    @MrsSoapAndClay

    7 ай бұрын

    Hey! I melt down the oils so they will all mingle with each other and form new bonds together. I hold it at heat by putting a cover on it and keeping it in a closed cabinet or microwave, or by putting it in the crock pot on low. It’s to keep the Shea from going grainy, mostly. If you’re referring to which oils and butters need to be refrigerated, it will say so on the data pages wherever you are buying your ingredients. Really just the fragile oils with a shorter shelf life benefit from cold storage.

    I made whipped shea body butter but the next day it's not soft and creamy. It's not airy at all. Very firm. How can I fix this? I'm thinking I didn't whip it long enough. It was 16oz unrefined shea and 3oz of coconut oil. A recipe from brambleberry but I melted it your way so I didn't get the grainy. I also may have left it in the fridge too long. ( so many issues, my other batches of refined shea came out great. I didn't pre-melt these.) Can it be re-whipped ? Or Should I / can I add more oil? and then re-whip? I did add arrowroot powder to the butter already.

Would it wortk the same if I split the Butter into two different kinds? That sounds like a luxurious Body Butter s as well. Before I tried it I thought I better ask so I don’t waste materials. Fragrance oils can be purchased from so many places, for me it kind of depends on how much you are making/needing and where in the states you live. Bramble Berry is fair prices, shipping is also fairly low if you're on West coast or nearby. Wholesale supplies plus is also good, shipping is decently low especially is your order is over $30. I just ordered from Aztec candle and soap supplies. There's also nurture soap that Mrs. Soap and Clay here has been testing recently and has had very positive things to say about them. Then of course you could do essential oils, you just have to be sure you're getting skin safe EOs or FOs.
