Yeah losing his mom during childhood and growing up with Roger gave Ben a bit of soft spot for kids, I think. I've always assumed that's why the kids from the crash were on the list and that's why he took Alex. It's a messed up "Ben" way to go about things, but from his perspective I think he was trying to keep kids safe.

Actually, the actors who played Locke and Ben both won Primetime Emmy Awards for their roles on LOST. Terry O'Quinn (Locke) won in 2007. Michael Emerson (Ben Linus) won in 2009. Emerson was actually nominated FOUR TIMES (2007-2011) but only won in 2009. O'Quinn was nominated three times for LOST (2005, 2007, 2008) and won in 2007. Naveen Andrews (Sayid) was nominated in 2005 too. Matthew Fox (Jack) was nominated for a Best Actor Emmy in 2010.

😂😂😂 Ben is just one of those characters you can't help, but love. The fact that his first instinct and reaction was to lie his ass off upon seeing a very much alive Locke is what makes him so entertaining to watch. You really can never tell (like the characters on the show) when he's lying and when he's telling the truth which speaks volumes about him since everyone knows that Ben is a liar. He's just a very well written villain and very complex character.

I know right, i was hoping they'd open the coffin this episode.

Big spoilers under the cut, don't read ladies! I just need to gush a little about the writing and foreshadowing in this episode. Duuuuuuuude!!! Rewatching this episode knowing who this new John Lock really is is such a treat! The writing and the timing during the temple scene are so great. The Smoke Monster appears and takes Alex's form the MINUTE John goes and away and then John comes back IMMEDIATELY after the monster disappeared and told Ben to obey John's every word. The timing is impeccable and using his guilt and the image of his dead daughter was the best way to keep him under control. These are the kind of episodes that make the rewatch so good. Watching it for the first time, you're not questioning any of it, but when you know the truth, it's incredibly obvious. Great writing for a great twist. Man, I love this show.

Not disagreeing, all the temple scene is really great _given_ that they took that direction with MiB-Locke. Still, this plot point _itself_ I find awful: it’s just ridiculous that MiB, with all his power and time on this island, needs all this convoluted plan in order to escape. It doesn’t even come close to making sense (and of course there’s no way all MiB actions throughout the series align with this new and forced revelation). Unfortunately, at this point it’s obvious that the writers are only thinking of what intrigued reactions the plot will cause on the viewers, despite it making no sense - and the logical problems pilling up will just be explained away with ever more weak excuses.

@@je-nas Have you ever played the game backgammon? they reference it several times over the seasons. To me the actual rules and game play for it apply in a sense to the "game" between MiB and Jacob and MiB trying to escape and what he needs to do to be able to. Not just the theme of dark vs light.

Lost premiered September 22, 2004 and ended on May 23, 1010 Breaking Bad premiered January 20, 2008 and ended September 29, 2013 The shows aired for during the same TV seasons for only two years.

"I stole her from an insane woman." It is true, Rousseau just killed her entire team. There was good reason to believe she was insane and would hurt her child (remember what she said to Claire about "what needs to be done"). When Ben realised Charles was without compassion, he took care of Alex and became a father, the same way Kate became a mother.

Ben got beat up so many times during this show lol

Nikki messing around with that pillow got me distracted the entire video lol (not complaining)

Smoke Monster didnt kill Ben cause it realized it can manipulate him to Kill Jacob. It wanted to do the Same thing to Mister Eko, but Eko realized, that it wasnt his real Brother but someone else who took his Form. So the Monster couldnt manipulate Eko anymore and killed him

He was incredible in the entire finale

8:32, Sun, with all her resources she wrestled from her father, never investigated the Oceanic flight. Particularly the manifest stating that the plane carried corpse of Jack's father Christian.

Locke's actor actually won that emmy in 2007 - for Season 3 - and Ben's actor actually won an emmy in 2009, and he won it because of this season. So yeah, Michael Emerson actually won that emmy because of this. It's always so fun rewatching Season 5 after, well... I've always had a weird feeling about resurrected Locke, and I never actually quite enjoyed his new self. Then episode 16 happened. I must say, Terry O'Quinn, while not giving any super-impressive performance of his own, was amazing at conveying two different characters just by behaving in a different way. Without as good as an actor, there would be no way to successfully pull it off

When I first saw this episode and it ended the way it did, I knew 100% what the big twist at the end of this Season was going to be. I knew and I was happy and shocked as hell to have guessed it right. That and also because from day one I kept saying to all my friends who watched this too that the Monster was going to be like super important in the endgame. I wonder how many other people guessed the Season 5 Ending?

EvErY oNe'ss goNNa RiP mE a nEw oNe! Hurrhurr" As if it's just minuscule stuff like that that people are getting annoyed at. Basically trying to downplay everyone's frustrations with him as if it's all just an overreaction by the nitpicky viewers lol. It's like, no, man, you're constantly spoiling stuff, utilizing the antonym of a poker face, instantly confirming or denying their theories, prematurely explaining stuff, and dropping obvious hints left and right for a show that's meant to keep you on your toes till the last second. I mean, I know it's a just-for-fun reaction to a cool show and all but, gosh, it's so infuriating haha.

I noticed Nikki talks about the same few things after like season 3, How much she loves Hurley, how much she hates kate, how Ben is only and always lying, and “Me” and that’s about it

Love this show but what happened to Locke was heartbreaking to watch and there gonna feel it also

Look up "Tell Me You Love Me" on HBO

Spoilers below as to why the smoke monster killed Eko and allowed Ben to live. Smoke monster/MIB is using people as pawns to do his bidding. He scans people only to find their weakness. Smoke monster knew how strong-willed Eko was and would eventually get in his way, instead of helping him with his goal of getting rid of Jacob and the rest of his candidates. Ben is easy to manipulate and he's using Ben as a backgammon pawn. Ben manages to kill Jacob for MIB and also managed to kill off one of Jacob's candidate, John Locke. MIB kept Ben around for strategic reasons. So basically Ben helps MIB with his goals while Eko would just get in the way.

Or maybe it's because Ben was only initially supposed to be on for a 3 episode arc, but Michael Emerson was so great, they wrote him on for the rest of the series. And then Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje wanted to be written off the show. Just maybe. :)

When Ben calls the monster and John just casually walks out of trees, that was the biggest give away. How he knows everything about the island all of a sudden. And at the end when Alex tells Ben to follow John makes no sense unless...

Eko didn't repent for what he did, but Ben did. That's the main difference why it killed Eko and not him. The real question is why did it kill the pilot.
