🙏🙏🙏 My wife died of COPD on Christmas Eve of 2015. Her mother died of COPD in 2005. And my mother died of COPD in 2010. My wife was diagnosed terminal in 2011 right after my Mom died & they told her she had 2-6 years. 2 if she didn't quit smoking & maybe 6 if she did quit. Well she didn't quit & lived 5 years. She sure showed them, huh? No but seriously, if you can quit smoking do it for the people that love you. Cuz I miss my wife so damn much that I feel pitiful! I'm 55 years old now but. I was 48 when she passed away & I haven't had an intimate relationship since then. I haven't even wanted a woman. Don't get me wrong sometimes I see a lady wearing spandex & if she has one of those heart shaped asses I can't help but look & go damn. But that is about as far as I go. If I were to meet someone special I think I would move on but that hasn't happened & I'm not going to make a big effort to try to find someone.

Glad your wife is doing well. My wife had a tumor near the brain removed about five years ago, doing great, and has since had a brain tumor dealt with (gamma knife radiation) and doing great with that as well aside from hearing loss on one side. Nothing cancerous, so good news there. Prior to any of that, she had a hysterectomy. We knew I'd be on my own with the kids for X number of days. The night before surgery, our son, who was 2 at the time, was pestering our 4 year old daughter, threatening to drop a small toy in a place where it would have been absolutely hopeless for me to ever recover it. He's holding the toy over the precipice with this incredibly serious and determined look on his little face, and I was a hostage negotiator. But at a moment when I needed to be firm and unwavering, the look on his face made me laugh, and the whole moment just fell apart. I had to leave the family room because I was laughing too hard. My wife looks up at me and says "They are gonna eat you alive."

Jim Gaffigan started comedy and acting in the 90s. He was in hundreds of commercials and several tv shows in the 90s. He had been on stage hundreds of times and had two comedy albums by the time he met his future wife in 2000. His comedy was identical to the way it is now other than some cussing. He was on his way up long before he met his wife. She undoubtedly helped him but he was far from nothing when they met.

Fellow brain tumor survivor here. My brain tumor was compared to a grape, and the cyst that surrounded it was compared in size to a grapefruit. I'd say we must have had the same dr, but this was 11 years ago. Guess not much changes with medical jargon. While I don't recommend the brain tumor experience to anyone, I'm adamant the entire experience was one of the funniest events of my life. The whole thing was insane. And as Gaffigan is doing, you can either make a joke about it and find humor in a horrible situation, or you can cry. Doesn't change the reality, but might change your comfort level while you're going through it.

I slipped when I was going on a water slide and cracked the back of my head open (not seroiuos, but there was some blood), so I had to go to the hospital. At the ER they prioritized head injuries, so I got in quick enough, but as soon as the doctor had deduced that I had no concussion and that the bleeding had mostly stopped, he said "You know what, I have this workplace meeting in a couple of minutes, would you mind just sitting here for a while and I'll be back to sew that cut up later. I Shouldn't be gone more than 15-20 min", and then he just left. It was kinda funny though even in the moment and even though I was the one who needed stitches in the back of my head.

I started learning English 30 years ago in school. To this day I'd never made a connection between grapes and grapefruits - how crazy is that!!! The thing is I'm German and we also use the word _grapefruit_ for that fruit but a totally unrelated word (Traube) for grapes. So I was already familiar with the term grapefruit and apparently it never registered that there is a word connection to grapes! ;-) (A similar thing happen in French. In German we use the word _Garage_ for the "car storage building" (but not the car repair shop). At some point when learning French I memorized the verb _se garer_ which means to park your car. It wasn't until many years later that I had the realization that this was where Garage comes from! I realize you wouldn't guess it from these anecdotes but I'm actually not entirely stupid! :p)

I'm bipolar diagnosed a little over a year ago by a doctor in like 2 minutes. The hardest part is not knowing if I'm excited about something/into it or manic and just think I can do anything. Other times it feels like I'm so depressed it's hard to get out of bed and/or I hate everything. And my parents are extremely skeptical of anything I say now too so it's completely up to me to know whether or not something I'm thinking is true. I'm doing better every day but those first few months were a bitch and a half. You learn your tendencies and symptoms and triggers and whatnot, but to me mental health is much scarier than physical like surgery. At least after the surgery you pretty much know if they were successful or not. Glad his wife is okay though, modern medicine is a blessing.

I am grateful to say that I am a born again Christian and have been since I was 19.......first off let me say how grateful i am that there definitely come moments and opportunities where we can get our hearts filled and tickled with laughter we can laugh cut up and tell funny jokes!!!! the Bible does say that laughter is a good medicine and i know comedians are funny and can lift you with laughter!!!!! it is such a blessing to bring laughter and joy to our souls!!!!!! to God Be All The Glory!!!!! however folks on the other hand comedians may be funny but not all comedy is clean comedy and I have to pray for those comedians who are lost and don’t belong to Christ that they might turn into him quickly before it’s eternally too late and too it is absolutely no laughing matter if you don’t know Christ as your savior because it burdens my soul to think that you are headed for a terrible place called Hell where the Bible says the fire is never quenched and the worm dies not! And it is no joke that you are not promised tomorrow! If you want to know how to be saved from this horrible reality then please by all means don’t hesitate to comment right back so I can lead you to the savior! 2 Corinthians 6:2 clearly states “now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation!” And Hebrews 3:15 clearly states, “Today if you hear his voice don’t harden your hearts! It is not me but the Holy Spirit that I pray reveals to you the truth of his precious gospel......John 3:16 says for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes on him will not perish but have everlasting life! V 17 says then V 18 says whoever believes on the son is not condemned but whoever does not believe on the son is condemned already because he has not believed on the son whom God has sent! Also Acts 16:30-31 what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house I am not threatening anyone but just warning them what will happen if they reject this precious gift of eternal life! Christ died a horrible criminals death! He was beaten brutally mocked spit upon and endured countless hours of torture pain for all of our sins! Ppl go to hell because they reject that pardon for their sins! And Jesus is saying to them in Matthew 25:41 depart from me you cursed into everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels! Hell was only prepared for Satan and his angels! It is not God who threatens anyone it is the craziness of rejecting the free pardon of salvation! It’s like if you’re in court you’ve committed a crime say you murdered someone! Now if you say to that Judge hey I know I’ve done a terrible thing of murdering that person but I hear you’re a good judge and so I know you’ll be fair to me...... the judge is going to reply well yes you’re right about one thing I am a good judge and because I’m a good judge I’m going to see to it that you’re punished and that justice is served! Well then all of a sudden someone you don’t even know comes forward and says you know what I know he’s committed the crime he’s committed and he deserves to go to jail but I really don’t want to see him go to prison so I’ll just go to prison for him so he can go free! So if you accepted that offer you’d be free to leave the courtroom but if you didn’t well you’d be crazy and go to prison yourself! Well that’s exactly how it was 2,000 years ago! He is God in human flesh and he came to this earth lived a perfect sinless life and even though he knew that we had sinned and because of our sins deserved to die miserably but he said no I don’t want to see them suffer so I will go and take their punishment for them! Even though he did absolutely nothing wrong still he chose to take the punishment for our sins so we can be set free from the power bondages and consequences of our disobedience to God! Romans 5:8 says For God commends his love toward us that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us! 1 John 2:2 says he was made to be the propitiation for our sins! And not just for our sins but the sins of the whole world! 2 Corinthians 5:21 He who knew no sin became Sin for us that we would be made his righteousness! The truth is if you had to get to Heaven by your own effort then you cannot do it! Because Romans 3:10 says there is not one that does good! No Not One! Romans 3:23 says For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God! Romans 6:23 says For the wages of sin is death! But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our lord! But the good news is Romans 10:9 If we confess with our mouth and believes in our hearts that Christ died for our sins then was raised from the dead we will be saved! V 10 For it’s with the heart we believe and it’s with the mouth confession is made unto salvation! God gave us 10 commandments to follow and we’ve broken every one of them! And because God is a good God he cannot allow our disobedience to him to go unpunished! Well then like I just mentioned above his son Jesus stepped forward and said no I don’t want to see them punished so I will take their punishment for them! And also like I said he died a terrible substitute criminal’s death for us on a cross so now all we have to do is accept that payment for our sins and we can escape the terrible wrath of God that is to fall on them who do not accept this atonement that was sacrificed for our sins! Praise the lord Romans 10:13 says Whoever calls on the name of the lord shall be saved! And 1 Peter 1:4 you’re an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you! Christ clearly said in John 14:6 I am the way the truth and the life and no one comes to the father but through me! Acts 4:12 clearly states that there is no other name given unto Heaven or earth by which we must be saved as there is salvation in no other! Jesus clearly states that there is clearly only one way to Salvation and it’s him that’s it! There is no other way! God Bless everyone who reads!

I love this guy. He's a walking advertisement for the notion that you really don't need to be dirty to be funny.

I know right, when I was far younger - being dirty/crude was so hilarious to me but not really any more so Gaffigan is my favorite comedian due to this.

Most important thing is that a comedian is funny. If a dirty joke is funny let them tell it. What is not funny is when (bad) comedians think being dirty and filling up every sentence with swear words is funny on its own.

@@einundsiebenziger5488 Also, just general rudeness and the "angry old man/woman" schtick just are not funny.

Jonathan Winters, Jerry Seinfeld, and Bill Cosby before we knew he was intensely flawed as a human being - ALL were masters of observational comedy. They were all creative and clever enough that the profanity would have ruined it.
