There are some strong similarities in the "ambience" that both Enya and Loreena create. Both also have the knack for writing those special, haunting and ancient-sounding melodies. Both have otherworldly voices. I am glad Loreena didn't criticize Enya--because she is correct--Enya is an innovator and absolutely changed the game with her sound. Loreena is more based in traditional instrumentation while Enya uses mostly synths. For me, Enya changed my whole musical world view, so no one can touch her; but Loreena made a big impact on me when I first heard her when The Visit was released. To me it felt like hearing Enya's cousin. Both women are incredibly talented.

To me, Loreena McKennit is more “earthy”, in that respect, her songs have a relatable quality whereas I see Enya as more “celestial”, but I still like both. They are different though, but I see how comparisons can be made. There’s nothing better than creating a play list of Enya and Loreena, especially in times when I need to escape the harshness of life.

I guess that no comments show she's underrated. She's not underrated in those circles of fans that appreciate fine music and art, though. Loreena has that in spades, and like the Moody Blues, her music sends me into another realm of existence that transcends thought or explanation. Sheer beauty!

I love both and for me both are unique and different... completely different from each other.

I think many of us that love one love the other - I sure do. ❤ They are different, but both bring me peace. Both are very unique, and both don't want fame. True artists

I can honestly say I didn’t know who Enya was until a few weeks ago. I’ve been a Loreena McKennitt fan for over 20+ years, although I am only in my early 30s. My father worked as a music producer and we had all of Loreena’s ‘80s and ‘90s albums in my house growing up, which is how I was introduced to her. I was playing some of her stuff at work a few weeks ago in anticipation of seeing her live, and my coworker asked me: “Why are we listening to Enya?” I was beyond confused, because I’ve never heard of her before. I explained that it is in fact Loreena McKennitt, and my coworker had never heard of her. I honestly thought she was known worldwide, but I also don’t do any social media or anything like that (except KZread) and I checked out some of Enya’s stuff but I honestly didn’t care for it. In my opinion, Loreena is far better from the two, and the comparison is kind of unfounded for me because I don’t think that Enya sounds anything like Loreena.

I love Enya beyond any other artist. Loreena is too good too.

Love her music , my favorite is Mummers Dance. So beautiful .

Music wise - Loreena for me is like Mother Earth, Enya is like a celestial goddess.

Enya is very electronic even compared to her family's CLANNAD , LOREENA McKINNETT has AGE old instruments and stories to her songs ,

Loreena is quite honestly the most purest soul ❤

I like Enya; but love Loreena. To each their own.

I love both!!

From what I understand Loreena is implying here that Enya's music is far too overproduced and exceedingly electronic, whereas her own music is more organic and acoustic in nature. And she is right. While I love both those ladies dearly, I must say I subscribe to the notion that Ms. McKennitt is "rich man's Enya".

Both Enya's music and Loreena's are beautiful and contain beauty. We should not try to compare or contrast them. They both contain an indescribable beauty.

Well, both female artists don't seek fame. It's all about the music. That's what she meant in the first place. Loreena was far from implying Enya's music is "over" and "exceedingly" of anything. That's just your "personal" thoughts because you prefer Loreena. It's fine. There is nothing wrong with Enya's music recording and production style. She's made a choice long time ago and thus she won't be able to perform the music on stage. Because she wanted her music to be that way. Loreena is more loyal to the traditional folk and Celtic world themes, so that makes her music special on its own. She wanted to be seen as a music performer and collector of song themes and cultures than a typical artist who focuses on the music itself (from a sound perspective). Loreena wasn't into music the way Enya was brought up in a music family, from where Enya further developed the interest of going more into this field of sound engineering with her layering techniques that resulted in her rich wall of sound/voices. The signature sound she is best known for. Of course that some people/listeners may not appreciate it, but it's truly heavy and solid work. A work no one else managed to reproduce on this amount of scale. The production may be more electronic, but still natural in sound and with great effort because all the voices are Enya singing over and over, the voices are never sampled. And that's why most people are enchanted by her music. Because it truly sounds magical. Enya went to a more celestial and spiritual approach. To quote her studio motto (Aigle Music): Recorded in the digital domain by an analogue brain.

Interesting take but why rich man's Enya? For me personally as a Greek person I find Loreena's music more diverse and multifaceted especially with the the blends of both Celtic and middle eastern sounds. Where's Enya is far more distant and ethereal in her sound and sticks to a very specific style.

Loreena's very real and natural in the expression of her genre. I have almost all of her music - zero Enya. There are a couple of Enya's earlier efforts I love, but her music is too produced/contrived and does not flow like Loreena's. Both are amazing, but Loreena's my fav. As a songwriter and vocalist myself, I gravitate more towards her music. What a talent!

She reminds me more of Miriam Stockley lol.. Loreena is magical and marvelous

I'm sorry, all props to Enya, BUT - Ms McKenitt is the FAR better musician in my ooinion...she not only composes all her songs, she arranges them, writes the lyrics, SINGS them and then produces them herself!!! So...she definitely is one of the greatest!!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Loreena is fantastic musician and composer. But so is Enya. In fact, I would say that, as a melody writer, Enya may be stronger. But they are both exceptional talents. I think they would actually get along with each other if they met (given that they are both serene, thoughtful and private).

Enya also compose her melodies, play piano, co-produce and co-arrange her songs. Enya is a great pianist, songwriter and singer. I think they are just different from each other. I love them both and for me they are completely different from each other, just like Canada and Ireland are different countries from each ofher 😊

@@morininhooo "Enya is a great pianist, songwriter and singer", First fo all, all piano melodies of Enya are super simple and easy to play, her voice is beautitul but so poor and limited that she has never been able to give a concert. And songwriter...well, Loreena has songs that are pure poetry and are complex. Most Enya songs are a repetitive loop. A little objectivity please.

Enya has nothing on Loreena

Enya is more of a pure musical experience whereas McKennitt brings stronger story telling element to her songs.

You have not listened to Loreenas music I´d say. Listen to Prospero´s Speech or full circle and tell me again Enya´s music is more a pure musical experience.

Enyia has never been able to give even one concert because of her poor voice and because her music is so overproduced that it cannot be emulated in concert, and there are people who dare to compare her to Loreena? Enya is a studio product. That's all. Yes, some of her songs are very beautiful but they are somewhat artificial. I´m still processing how people dare to compare Loreena's voice with Enya's? A little objectivity please.
