This whole concert Loreena McKennitt: Live at the Alhambra in Spain is fantastic! Well worth your time to give it a listen. This amazing Canadian singer composes the music. A fusion of rock, pop, Celtic, Middle Eastern and pagan spiritual music from her journeys around the world. The voice of a goddess.

I love that woman! The concert was recorded in 2006 at the palace of Charles V, part of the Alhambra complex, in Granada, Spain. It’s an excellent example of Islamic architecture. The Mystic’s Dream with its eastern musical influence is fitting for that venue.

Great reaction Nick!! I've loved Loreena since the early 90's - this is one of my top songs of hers! She's from Stratford, Ontario, Canada (about 50km from my home), originally Manitoba, Canada. An amazing talent - voice and musicianship unlike few I've ever heard! Primarily Celtic influence, but she's delved into Middle Eastern sounds (and instrumentation) in the last 20 years. The musicians she gets to play with her are TOP NOTCH! Cheers from Canada, eh!

Loreena McKennitt is by far one of my favorite musicians. I’m so glad you got to check out this great song of hers, which was an opening track of her wonderful album “The Mask and the Mirror.” If you read her liner notes, you’ll know that the album was largely inspired by her travels in Spain. Her other fantastic album is “The Book of Secrets,” whose standout tracks (IMO) are “The Mummer’s Dance” (arguably her most-known song), “The Highwayman” (adapted from the poem by Alfred Noyes), and the goosebumps-inducing “Dante’s Prayer.” As someone who loves prog rock for its depth and beauty, I find myself continually moved by Loreena’s music for much the same reason, albeit in a different musical form.

She is from Canada. After travelling the Silk Road, she meshed that Near Eastern sound along with her typical Celtic flavor. This entire concert was performed in the Alhambra in Spain. If I'm not mistaken it was built by the Muslims.

A very intimite venu and beautiful as hell. A night to remember for sure. I have also seen her i Copenhagen 2007..London 2012..and Edingburgh 2019. Her music has a speciel place in my heart. She is sooo celtic as you can see in other songs like "all souls night" but this is a mix with north african music, and it's perfect for the palace where we gives the concert. It's La Alhambra, in Granada, South of Spain. The biggest arab palace in occident, was builded in the medieval times.

You need to react to the studio version of this song because there are instruments left out. The Bag Pipes weren't in this live version. Yes. Loreena....The Dead Can Dance...play ancient Celtic and Persian or mideastern instruments which sounds electronic. I definitely encourage you guys to check out her album, "The Mask and The Mirror. "

I like to think of her as a cousin, since I heard that most McKen___ names go back to King Kenneth MacAlpin auf der Scotling, as I suddenly call it, und we haben ze Kenzie. In fact Talitha MacKenzie is another similar art worth checking out, especially her haunting version of "Chi Mi Na Morbheanna" (Mist-Covered Mountains), which was JFK's favorite song, and in which she fold a pregnant quote from the man. Also in the same vein, you might pursue Clannad, Pentangle, or more progressively, Dead Can Dance, who has perhaps the world's most remarkable singer in Lisa. The male Lisa Gerrard is David Hykes, but he is progressively composing TODAY and as such, fodder for few. His voice however is featured on "Meetings with Remarkable Men" about the young life of Gurdjieff, Fripp's spiritual mentor, and directed by Royal Shakespeare's brilliant late Sir Peter Brook. Loreena is Neo-Romantic, like the characters she sings about, such as "Lady of Shallott". Renaissance and Annie may well be her closest analogue. Also...for more beautiful scenery, watch "Baraka" which features the music of Dead Can Dance, and has the most beautiful places and images in the world...by design. It is part of a group of other wonders of cinema and music.

There is a musical movement that seeks to go beyond classical music, beyond rock, beyond folk, into the mysterious spiritual realms of trance and vibrational awareness of greater things going on past the point of just hearing sounds. Such artists can tap into that "something out there" and bring it to you to experience at least the flavor of the grand mysteries surrounding our existence. "Mystic rhythms, capture my heart carry me away .. Nature seems to spin .. its supernatural way" -- RUSH, Mystic Rhythms" Loreena McKennitt is often dismissed by rock lovers as "that new age mellow stuff", but musicians can hear the complexity and song crafting, the interplays of rhythm and tone that mark great musical talent. Her early stuff is probably better for reviews, as it is more daring and experimental, I guess. I came across a great performance by Sarah Brightman that you should see "Fleurs du mal -- Vienna 2008" -- top shelf. kzread.info/dash/bejne/n6KZqs1ulLu0fNI.html
