When replacing the stator in my Yamaha Rhino 660 I noticed that that oil pump drive chain was VERY LOOSE. It also drives the water pump and failure could lead to MAJOR problems. Some play is normal on oil pump chains however after reading about some failures, I decided to replace it. The part is only $13.`

Thanks for the excellent video, just saved my uncle and I a bunch of headaches.
You should revisit the tensioner idea. What a great idea!
Another great video Chris..keep em coming..hope you and Jen have a safe and happy new year

Great video, no background music or long winded intro. Need to change out my Rhino 450 starter clutch, this and your stator video should be very helpful. Hope that the 450 isn't much different than the 600...
Great videos, I watched the the while thing. I don't even have a rihno.
Thanks for the video, big help for sure! When putting it back together did the big gear behind the magneto have play in it? I don’t mean turning the gear, I mean in and out play. Mine has maybe 1/8 of an inch play and can’t remember if it did that before I took it apart.
Great video thx for providing the new chain 5/16 " play measurement ;) should save me a little time today
glad I started watching your videos excellent and fun

Thanks for the advise, I’m working on a heavy used 2005, my next project on the rhino is the shifter. On mine, I see a plug on top of the case behind the shifter cover. I can’t find anything that mentions what that reservoir contains since mine was empty. Do you have any info on what should be added gear oil/Yamaha oil? Wondering since there is a 17mm plug there. I can send pics
Awesome video man. I'm currently inside the cover right now changing the starter clutch. Do you happen to know the torque spec for the flywheel / magneto where the idler gear sits for the crankshaft?
Thanks for the info.
I am changing mine !
Hey man how did you get the starter wheel gear off? standard 3 arm pully puller?
I wish my atv has a chain the belt broke it cost almost $400.Good video thank you

The drive belt? Yeah these are generally known for that happening too. Good to carry a spare. $400 seems steep. And thanks
I wonder if that is the clicking noise I hear on my rmax? Wonder if you could take a link out!.
straight to the friggn point++ i have to replace the timing chain on mine it slipped supposedly we will see
How did u add a oil temp light
Hot to get gear off crankshaft to replace timing chain
Thanks for the excellent video! Do you have any idea how the gear behind the flywheel/starter clutch gear comes off of the crank? I'm replacing a timing chain (which I actually already have off) but want to check the key in the timing chain gear which is behind the gear that I'm having trouble removing). Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

order a clymer manual on the machine... i like those best
If I had seen the play in the new chain I would have been worried! That old chain was wacky loose. Cheap pins and bushings is my guess, and/or maybe it's slapping more than the chain can handle. Great video.
@NoNonsenseKnowHow
3 жыл бұрын
Yeah wacky loose for sure. From what I have read, it's pretty standard to have some play in these chains. I still feel like Yamaha could have easily added a cheap tensioner to soak up the slack...
Cool
Hey quick question, the gear that doesn’t have a key way. How does it turn the motor over if it doesn’t have a key to lock it in place?

I'm not sure which part of the video you referring to and what it looks like. It's been a while since I did this but you might be talking about a sprag clutch or starter clutch it's called. Freely spins one way and locks up going the other way
Wowwwwwww😱that's more than loose😏

Yeah you would think
My r1 oil pump chain is like that. I think that's how it's supposed to go.
Dang man... that's a seriously loose chain

Yea big time!
Not sure if you really care about the cosmetics but you could take a torch or heat gun to the plastics and brighten it back up. Would look better and make for a good video.

Yeah I never been big on cosmetic stuff. But I have used that technique before many years ago on some black bumpers. Works great!

@@NoNonsenseKnowHow awesome to hear, I read alot of things suggesting to steer clear. I'll consider it for next time.
How many miles did this machine have. This could be useful information for determining if the pump chain should be replaced.
@NoNonsenseKnowHow

Doesn't have an odometer. I did end up adding the digital dash though
It looks like a bike chain why couldn't you just pop out 2 links?
@NoNonsenseKnowHow
3 жыл бұрын
I originally thought about doing that but it would be too tight if two links were removed. In fact you wouldn't even be able to get it back on. Unlike I'll bicycle wheel, there is no back-and-forth adjustment on this
@krotchlickmeugh627
Жыл бұрын
Because when a bike chain snaps. Youre walking. When this one snaps. Youre also walking. But with $2699.99 for a new engine. Rather than $2 for a master link in your bicycle
Wonder how many heat cycles before that heli coil pops out and destroys everything anyways lmfao
I don’t like the idea of loose 😂
