Fast paced overview on how to determine if the stator is faulty in a Yamaha Rhino 660 UTV and how to replace it. This one had a dead battery after riding for a while. Charging voltage at the battery should be 14.0v at idle according to Yamaha manual. Mine was under 13 volts. `

    Great video on the stator. If you do a lot of winching that may create a problem for these so what we did is install an automotive/truck battery under the driver seat and locked it down with a hold down kit. That way, the battery will help dampen the load on the electrical system when winching or using other heavy electrical load.

    Ricky Stator are really good. You made the right choice. You are great with electrics. I'm impressed. I just replace stuff. Watch the phillips on bikes. If the phillips screw has a dot on the head it's a Japanese phillips. (JIS) They use a different screw driver. You may know that. I didn't for 40 years and a ton of butched screws.

    Good to hear, yeah after doing some research it seems they make a good product. I couldn't find out where they are made though. Yeah I have heard of the Japanese Phillips but never ran into a problem with any if them yet. Thanks man

    Thanks man. It bolts right up on there. You just need to get the recoil pulley from a Grizzly 660. I picked that one up on eBay for like 10 bucks with shipping. And The Recoil was 40 bucks on Amazon. I tried it out a few times today and it works great! Definitely a bear to pull but with proper form it fires right up.

    It's especially handy for if the battery was too weak to crank over the engine. Using the pull start to assist a weak battery also works great. And of course it's much easier to pull alongside a weak starter

    Crazy how loose that is even after the new one is on. Best to change the sprockets as well just not wear the chain or sprockets out but sometimes you can’t just replace them or not cheaply. You think maybe when everything heats up it tightens up a bit more? Yikes that’s scary loose and seems odd for Yamaha engineering. I like the tensioner idea. Great vid.

  • @NoNonsenseKnowHow

    @NoNonsenseKnowHow

    2 жыл бұрын

    I've seen videos of many other oil pump chains in engines and it seems that it's not uncommon to have loose chains like this. At first it was very worrisome, but seems to be normal for these. It should still have some kind of tensioner in my opinion but it's very very that they break

    Hey, i followed what you did and everytbing but then i tried to start it afterwards, it would just crank and not start. Then it would do a very hard jerk and shut off. Any idea what that could be? We took it apart twice after to double check that we didnt leave any debris inside and it still does that

    For future readers the resistance test is the best test set your ohms resistance to 20k and test each terminal to frame ground should read OL for all if it doesnt theres a problem. The other test is to test voltage while running you want above 13v and relatively steady if voltage is all over the place you have an issue. I always replace the reg/rectifier with stator. Creator got away with just doing the stator but a good rule of thumb is to just replace both saves you headache down the road.

    So if you have a bad stator it WILL START WITH JUMP?

  • @NoNonsenseKnowHow

    @NoNonsenseKnowHow

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes. The stator charging coils were bad so the battery discharged itself. The Rhino 660 will run with no battery. Unless the pickup coil part of the stator is bad, then jump start not going to do you any good

    Hmm interesting my rhino died on me sounds like it wants to start nothing did a compression test was given out 30 PSI put some oil in jumped ta 60 psi have spark have fuel have air could a bad stator give me that low compression reading because it's not getting enough power if that makes sense???????

  • @NoNonsenseKnowHow

    @NoNonsenseKnowHow

    3 жыл бұрын

    30 PSI is way too low. Definitely not related to a stator. Next Step would be doing a leak down test to determine where your compression loss is going. And verify cam timing
