I don't remember seeing fanciful drain covers where I live. In some countries, drain covers/grates keep disappearing because of people steal them for 'steel'. 😅

From water department so it is water gate, in short it use gate every Chinese understand except you lol.

暖 in this case means (central) heating, with hot water or even steam pipes underneath. The full term in Chinese is 供暖系统， or central heating system in English.

@@stevenslanguagevlog The word on the drain hole was "市设政施", and it's not a meaningful abbreviation especially the latter "政施". But if you swap the second and third characters, it's "市政设施" which make alot more sense, just like others with "北京市政", and then added a word 设施/facilities.

Interesting that they are all circular. Do they have any that are triangular or rectangular? Have you considered looking at their tree grids? I was very impressed when in Beijing & Shanghai that they were all properly bedded with no displacement due to on-going root & tree growth, basically not presenting any trip hazard.

@@stevenslanguagevlog I think you've misunderstood my initial comment - what I noticed were the well maintained metal tree grids around the mature trees all along the footways (sidewalks in US parlance). In the UK, these (where they exist) are often displaced via the growth (expansion) of roots which then leads to pronounced trips, whereas in China, these seem to be absent.

The English subtitles on your video cannot be translated into the Chinese language😅

yes I did, and yes others have translated famous brand names. Part of learning a language is understanding when a character is being used on its own and as part of a larger word, which can be difficult for someone who is making their way the Chinese language.

Please tell me how you translate Sony or Kia, don’t tell me it’s 索尼， 起亚. Those are not translations, those are transcriptions. Morning/dawn color for 朝彩is transliteration, not translation either. Sony and Kia themselves are anglicized words to begin with.
