How is CHINA reinventing the TOILET?

In the past decades, public toilets in China generally had a bad reputation, they were often dirty and poorly maintained, making them unpleasant to use. In 1993 around only 7,5% of the rural areas in China had toilets, however, by the end of 2016 the figure has gone up to 80,3% and 85% by 2020.

As recent as 2019 when I last visited China, squat toilets were still the norm. I remembered walking all over Baiyun International Airport looking for a seat toilet. I couldn't find any! I had to squat and failed to rise from my squating position. I fell. Fortunately, the toilet was super clean. It was embarrassing but I didn't get hurt, except my pride and self confidence. Today I'm 75.

I visited Guizhou recently n noted the vast toilet improvements. Plenty toilets were added n they were almost all clean n well maintained. I hv a couple suggestions though. The ratio of toiets shld b doubled or more for females as we take longer time using them. I noticed dire, insufficient seated toilets though. People with injury or recently operted on n those who hv leg probelms cant use the many available squat toilets. Toilet makers shld take note to design all toilets, especially the squatting ones with foldable railings or some sort of sliding or pop up ones to address this problem for easier usage.

One of the many reasons I have been so concerned about visiting Asia is lack of clean facilities when traveling outside of the large cities. I want to go to pretty places not just the crowded location but have seen so much spoken about the bad rest areas. I literally would wear a diaper if I had to deal with those squatting toilets, that is how you get sick and die. It is very sad for the people to live that way and that is why you see people doing their business in the street on videos. People should not be living that way in 2024 no matter their form of government. I am glad to see China address this, their people work hard and deserve better.

    @@user-me4tj9re7m 不清楚,估计智能化不如。 但是内部还是有一堆机械的冲洗和杀菌的东西吧。反正我那个广告是重点讲了紫外线杀菌,自动泡沫清洗马桶等等功能的。

The major problem with current toilet system is too much use of water which is becoming scare. We need to develop and promote a system that is sustainable in all respect from water input to output of sludge.

I am disappointed that you did not provide reference to the inventor of the bidet seat. You can google, Mr. Bidet, who was from Brooklyn NY and he invented the bidet seat for his father. I think Mr. Bidet is still living in Florida. You can find his real name as well. Toto and the Chinese owe it all to Mr. Bidet.

What else do we need in a toilet except self-cleaning. Self-cleaning the toilets. Self-cleaning the bathrooms. Self-cleaning, self-cleaning, self-cleaning!!! Anything we want more than that antibacterial surfaces. So there isn't as much need for self cleaning! Nothing more gross, stinky & dirty bathroom! Best thing to have in a shower that doesn't leave watermark. All the fancy stuff comes 2nd to that because again we want to avoid as much self-cleaning, self-cleaning, self-cleaning!

Bathrooms to do your banking in are you for real who wants to stay in a bathroom longer than absolutely necessary. As a woman I wouldn't do my make up in the bathroom if you paid me even if I didn't have a make up table who wants to potential catch something hello or if not smell something yuck! Personally anyone that live in a toilet there are few I've are self loving idiots and usually because they don't have mirrors well go buy one some people just got no intelligence. !
