What's really cool about Portal RTX is that it used NVidia's new toolkit that allows anyone to create new assets for games and replace them at runtime. Therefore, anyone who wants to take an old game and make better assets for it can technically do so.

I’m just going to say it, I don’t mind at all when Jack goes on about technical stuff like ray tracing, sound, graphics, shading and all these kinds of stuff. It has actually inspired me to pay more attention to it when I play games myself and I really appreciate that since it adds a cool element to notice in the games you play or watch :)

When I watched a playthrough of the remake, aside from the story, all I could think about was how *that* was exactly how the original was in '97--except Nanaki being a little buffer. Dude being a photographer, I looooove messing with light and making it hit my subjects differently. This game.. that RTX cube in test chamber 4, is exactly like when you look through a camera lens. The refractions and the mirrored image is absolutely gorgeous, and extremely true to real life. Massive love for this! 😍

see, the crazy thing about this is that this is what my brain THINKS the original portal looks like. my mind filled in all of the little details for me. and then you go back and actually look at it and it's like bwahhhh???

It's kinda cool to see them redesigned, if they do a Portal 2 with RTX that's one less thing for them to modernise

@@mehpainter It'll still take a long time if they do. Portal is a lot of enclosed chambers, both literal test chambers and definitive rooms. Portal 2 has some gargantuan environments, and not just plain paneled rooms either. Even the intro alone could take a full team months.

Probably because it isn't. The cube from Portal 2 has a lens on every side, this one doesn't.

Dam this is one of my favourite games of all time and just seeing it look this dam beautiful is just so breath taking! Man I love that Ray tracing can do this to an old game just imagine what it can do to other old titles

This was a lesson on remembering how short Portal actually is. Having played Portal and Portal 2 back to back my brain kinda just morph the memories into one big game. Now I really want to see Portal 2 in Ray Tracing especially all the old old lost test rooms hidden in the cavern way under the facility

They’re especially short when you already know all the solutions to the test chambers I can beat portal in under an hour and portal 2 in around 2 hours still a great way to spend an afternoon the writing never gets old for me
