If you are seriously into film, you still need to be DVD- and Blu-ray-based. Streaming services, with very few exceptions, just serve blockbusters which miss 95% of the films out there.

@Jesse Brizuela - Maybe late 70’s to early 90’s. Some movies feel like they might have been made for TV or straight to video. Ex: Late 70’s feel, full color. Movie about a woman who kills her husband. Then she finds a black moth lingering around her house. Her husbands face is on the back of said moth. She seeks help from a woman who aided her in killing her husband. The lady tells her that she can’t help her, and that “The Black Moth will stop at nothing to get its revenge”. Later on, the moth scares the wife and she ends up stabbing her head on a coat hanger attached to her wall. The movie ends with the black moth returning with the face of the wife on its back. That one has been bugging me for years!

Digital Streaming, even if you buy it, can be edited even AFTER purchase anytime someone comes up with a socially acceptable reason to complain. This has already happened in video and music. If you want an original version, you MUST purchase a hard copy.

My neighborhood movie store closed down during Covid. I'd been going there since the early eighties when they had CED disc and betamax tapes. It's been kind of a shock losing all these places I grew up with. No movie stores, bowling alleys, malls or arcades. There's just nothing to do in most towns. The internet and social media really changed our lives more than anything.

There were so many little video stores like this in the East Bay crammed with DVDs in 2006 when I left Oakland. I imagine the next few years were not kind to them because that's when the Netflix subscription service started taking off. There was one on College Avenue in Elmwood that I remember fondly. They had a popcorn machine in the window. I can't remember the name of it. I remember walking up there one rainy night maybe November 2005 and the popcorn machine drew steam on the window in the neon light. One of my favorite places

This guy didn't do it for the money. He did it because he actually loved what he did. It's rare you find someone that does that these days since inflation is skyrocketing. He got in when it was a different time. Now I do believe he'll have to switch to eBay and flip items online if he wanted to keep this going because otherwise, I hope he enjoys his retirement and passes away peacefully.

Every video rental store there's the adult section----man it's embarrassing asking for a vid from that section up at the cashier with another customer standing behind you and the clerk says "It's out..we don't have it" then you have to go back and look for another porn vid to rent...and usually it's always the creepy dude asking for it at 1am in the morning---I've been there.

WOW, 40 years on the DVD rental business is admirable and impressive! But with our level of computers, high speed internet, online streaming, torrent websites, VPN's, and large external hard drives available to purchase. DVD's went the way of eight track tapes and VHS tapes back in about 2010, about the same time smartphones came out. I mean as long as you know how to log into a computer, download and activate a VPN, and download the right torrent software and use it in conjunction with the right website, you can be downloading entire TV series, music albums, and DVD's in no time at all and all you need to be paying for is your monthly internet and your yearly or monthly VPN subscription. My 8 TB external hard drive is nearly full of these things and I don't think I've wasted money on buying or renting a DVD since about Spring 2013. Even when I was once a Timeshare owner and they would offer me a few coupons to rent some DVD's from there front desk and they only had like 100-200 to choose from and I was like that's cute, I have a laptop and a 6 TB external hard drive with a HDMI cable to connect my laptop to any flat screen TV in my resort rooms and with one external hard drive the size of one VHS tape, I have access to several hundred movies and over hundred completed TV series all on one device and I no longer have to waste time, money, and space to purchase and store DVD's!
