Didn't King Bhumipol of Thailand had a regent from 1946 to 1950 while he was doing his degree? That means with your criteria he was reigning for "only" 66 years.

As for Longest reigning Regents I'd say Miklos Horthy is probably the winner although I'm certainly no expert. He ruled the Kingdom of Hungary for almost 24 years. His regency was a bit more unique because to my knowledge they didn't have an Heir so he was in charge until they could elect a new king... Although to be fair I'm not an expert of Hungary in the interwar period, nor that certain about long reigning regents

An interesting note on Queen Victoria--her predecessor was William IV, her uncle, who was already getting older when he became King and was pretty sick towards the end of his life. He absolutely doted on Victoria but hated her widowed mother, the Duchess of Kent, and was terrified by the prospect of the Duchess becoming regent should he die before Victoria turned 18. He did everything he could to hang on and ended up dying just a couple months after Victoria's 18th birthday, ensuring that she would reign in her own right from the beginning.

The Queen is currently at 69 years and 228 days so she only needs to beat him by 70 years and 127 days (in order for this video to get revise) and then if she lives two more years after that, she can beat King Louis (the 14) who is the longest monarch with a veritable reign by an exact date.

Talking about “Pakal I”, Even when is written with an is pronounce /ahaw/ like in Spanish. In this case ajaw means lord, his actual tittle as ruler was k’uhul ajaw, literally “holly/sacred lord”, is the tittle given to a lord that rules over other lords, that’s why is often translated as “king”. The other important tittle that he held was kalo’mte’ and is given to a k’uhul ajaw that rules over other k’uhul ajaw, I let you to decide the correct translation to it. Calling him just “Pakal” is like calling Beth to Queen Elizabeth. Thank you for another interesting video. I'm not so certain about the "of age" and "regent-free" criteria you apply (while also adding Qianlong's effective but unofficial regency after his abdication) -- if it is a question effective rule, does that not eliminate modern constitutional monarchs, while standards of coming of age vary, as do both maturity and actual effective leadership in different instances. As for coronation as rationale, a number of underage monarchs underwent that ceremony (including Henry III and Henry V of England), most pertinently for your list, Shapur II of Sasanid Persia, who was king of kings for every minute of his 70-year long life (309-379), having been crowned in utero (at least that is the most amusing story, the priests having placed the crown on his mother's belly). Also, if you are going to consider the dates of Pakal I of Palenque verifiable, you should do the same for Rameses II of Egypt, who reigned for 66 years and 2 months (according to a much later king list, but contemporary documents are in agreement, reaching into Year 67 -- having started at 1, not 0 -- and astrochronological evidence allows dating the surviving records from his reign from May 31 1279 to between July 9 and August 3 1213 BC -- even though there are other possible astrochronological matches for the absolute dates, the length of time covered by the records is assured due to the regnal year, month, and day dates of the documents). The possibly 94-year reign of Pepy II of Egypt, on the other hand, is indeed not verifiable.

I have to disagree with this completely! Reigning simply means being the monarch. It does not necessarily have to do with ruling. Elizabeth II does not necessarily rule, she reigns, it is the prime minister and the elected government which legislates, in other words, ruling. Therefore, Louis XIV is the longest reigning monarch, regardless of whether or not he took the throne as a child, he reigned as monarch, but did not govern until his early adolescence.

Thank you very much! what do i think: a) the Idea of not counting titles below royalty, even for independent states such as Liechtenstein....well, i do not really get the actual "net gain of knowledge" here, although i certainly understand the easing of research. b) subordinate monarchs? Why not. Coincidence with above, you would theoretically have to include the rulers of the small German states too (though none of them would have a place on that list anyway, as far as i know). c) to not include years when rulers had a regent is actually a good idea. c1) but, couldn't than be years included when a monarch on your list was the regent for a predecessor/successor, such as Hirohito being the Regent for his Father Yosihito (1920/21-1926) and with the Chinese Emperor, which would add some years to the length of their respective reigns? c2): Coronations are overestimated i think. Louis XIV seized power officially the day after Mazarin's death in 1660, so, in all honesty, i would strike him from the list since he was not ruling alone till that day. c3): i didn't knew about Bhumipol/Rama IX`s regency 1946-50, but now i have something to learn more about. d) Ramesis II the Great is already mentioned somewhere down there.
