It's clear, he doesn't judge longboarders but he just loves skateboarding too much. There are things you can do on long boards other then cruise, but he is right that you cant flip your board mid air between your feet.

Except that you can. Longboards come in tons of shapes. And there's longboards designed with single and double kicktails and it is not only possible to do a kickflip on a longboard, it's actually pretty easy depending on which one you have. I think it's just that less people know you can use a longboard for tricks. I'm not trying to argue or anything, but maybe take a look on KZread. Search longboard tiger claw variations, longboard tricks, dancing and downhill. There's a lot you can do with both. And "long boards" shaped like surfboards have been around just as long as trick boards. (Even longer depending on who you ask). Just give it a try. At the very least there's nothing like bombing a massive hill with a longboard. It's a totally different feel and idea. I do ride both. I hit up the skateparks with my enjoi all the time but I wish people didn't fight so much about it because the truth is, if more people tried longboarding in the countless styles, I think they'd find that they enjoy doing both. Why aren't we allowed to do both?

Agreed. Correction for the video: Shortboards aren't better for tricks. They're better for shortboard tricks. Longboards are better for longboarding tricks. Which you prefer really depends on you. Myself I just own both and have a good time whichever I bring :)

Honestly, I dont think aaron is the right person to judge this. Obviously he doesnt know what longboarding really means. I mean, he didnt even mention sliding, downhill, dancing or other disciplines of longboarding. I love speed and snowboarding but i dont have snowy hills where I live. So I longboard and I can say, because I can also do like varial kickflips, heelflips and other stuff on a skateboard, that longboarding takes as much skill as skateboarding. It is just a different way of riding a piece of wood with two trucks and four wheels.

Longboards are not the wrong board. Every person has their prefrence. Skateboards "short" are meant for throwing around, spinning, and jumping high. Longboards are ,in my prefrence, are for power sliding down hills and doing footplants or no-comlpys

Johnny Parsnips just because they have similarities doesn't mean there the same, that's like comparing XC skiing and downhill skiing, one goes downhill and fast, one is hiking and slow. skate boards are for tricks, long boards are for travel/speed

I like longboards for many reasons, one because it helps me get around faster and it's fun to go downhill really fast 😂, also because I'm a surfer and it sorta reminds me of surfing even when I'm not in florida

Ok but have u ever hit 60 km/h on a short board? I doubt it. And if so it would be very loud and uncomfortable. Long boards are better for bombing hills. Lets at least get THAT straight.

I have to say that anyone who opts for one over the other because one is 'cooler' than the other is a total chopper and has completely missed the point of riding a board with wheels on it. I'm a 40 bloke and I have recently jumped back on a deck after 25 years off and I had forgotten the simple pleasure of just riding around the streets and along the beach on a board. Being 6'4" I always struggled a bit with a regular board and I've recently got my hands on a longboard. Not massive at 39" long but it does feel a bit more comfortable and I've got some lovely soft, freeride wheels so looking forward to just cruising around :)

u missed the point by being cooler what he meant was its more fun being able to pop tricks as well as ride, and it also gives u more freedom to do more maneuvers its like surfing, sure its fun to ride the wave, but imagine being able to do some cool trick like a handstand on the board mid wave, thats wht he meant by cooler

If people prefer vert or only street it's acceptable too. Life is too short to do only what is "cool" per se. Aaron makes longboarding seem like its all about cruising and how cool you can look. I'm a longboarder and I can tell you that is bullshit. Longboarding is NOT about being like a surfer and plain transportation. Longboarding is about bombing a hill at 70mph or sliding for 100 feet and laying thick white thane lines. You should look for some longboard freeride videos, people can do some pretty sick tricks, and there are longboards made for tricks, better than the kind youre using in this videos.

LandFish4 it has been done, i have a 35 inch longboard with 2 full kicks and 20 inch wheel base and its 9 inches wide, i can tre flip. longboaring is much harder, sure doing 20 stair gaps are hard but try going down a hill at 110kmh and doing a slide 200 ft before a corner to slow down to 80kmh and grip the corner, not easy at all to take corers at 70kmh while cars have t slow down to 50 to take the same corner. I can NOT do any of that but there are videos of lots of people doing that.

Sorry for the critique, Aaron, but these videos are not that helpful. You should do some advanced trick tips like back lip, nose manual nollie flip, most of your videos now, are only for beginner skaters. I hope you see this!

I think you are right Aaron but you are missing a big part of long boarding: downhill I ride skateboards and longboard I only do downhill longboard ing and you get the same feel landing a different style power slide down a hill as landing a tee. Please don't hate this is only my opinion

This guy obviously doesn't know about longboards. He's making a comparison of skateboard tricks on a skateboard vs on skateboard tricks on a longboard. Everything is wrong with that.

Longboards can allow you to travel much farther in less time, a half hour ride on a skateboard for me takes about ten minutes on a longboard to the same place. Skateboarding is much more fun especially once you learn to ollie, longboards are still lots of fun though and they're great for beginners. More surface area and wider trucks really helps you keep your balance!

I started out on a short board, and moved on to a longboard, cause they are just more fun to ride, longboards are not just for beginner skaters, longboarding is just a different sport

Bear in mind these are two COMPLETELY different riding styles that only have a little in common. On a longboard, your weight usually stays between the trucks and doesn't really do much, but your upper body turns more for carving. You also usually put more weight forward for more stability, but this doesn't apply much to skateboards. On a skateboard, your weight always stays between your legs with one foot behind the front truck bolts and one on the tail. To cruise with the harder, smaller wheels of a skateboard, you're going to be needing to do a lot more with your weight and balance and a lot of leg work to avoid cracks that would throw you off.

I see too many ignorant people, and too little respect. People who downhill/freeride are just as passionate about their skating as people who street skate. Aaron seems to be clueless, lumping all longboarders together as just people who cruise. And even if someone just cruised, be it on a skateboard or a longboard, why does there need to be so much hate? You've all been there once; you don't start out knowing how to do a treflip or do a toeside check. Why do you care about what other people do? Just skate what YOU want and think is fun, and simply respect other skaters.

I live in NYC what longboard is good for riding the rough street I have a regular skateboard but its a pain with all bumps and its super uncomfortable I need all longboard to get me from point A to point B any suggestions?

I just got my first longboard today. I haven’t been able to go outside and mess around with it because of the snow and ice but I’m really excited to get started!

Been a longboarder for many moons. (the fun is in the slides! ) However, this, and other Braille videos have inspired me to get a skateboard, and may I just say....man, holy balls! it's really hard! 3 weeks in and I'm still learning how to ollie! Hats off to you guys who can really skate. I'm going to keep plugging away until I can at least get up a kerb at speed! Cheers!

honestly as long as it’s not a scooter, what’s to worry about? Both trick boards and longboards have their unique style. And yes you can do tricks on a long board, you just need the proper longboard for freestyle and dancing. I personally prefer longboarding, just cus when you’re going down a hill fast and you slide it, it’s just the most fun i have ever had. But i would also like to get more comfortable on a short board and learn new tricks.

I'm a guy that put longboard wheels on my skateboard, lul. Cruise down streets and still do tricks. Can also ride down hills fast (nickel board trucks tightened still easy maneuver and no speed wobbles; I use slant trucks) but I can also just pop ollies. I use bones reds that's been taken apart and relubed (makes them better than factory release if you do it right) with some typical orange duster wheels and a superior board (I need to change my deck like holy crap). Does anyone else do that...?

I've heard this argument from other longboarders (which I assume you are), but I never understood what they mean. Most skaters who ride normal skateboards don't give a shit about making money, and longboard companies like Sector 9 make millions of dollars, so why do longboarders feel that they are more passionate than normal skaters? To me it doesn't matter what board you ride, all that's important is that you like skateboarding.

Don´t think so, I built a Longboard and it cost 70 € TRucks, Hardware, GRip, Wheels, Bearings 60€ and the Wood 10 So it´s not that expensive

remake this video, with a downhill/freeride longboard, precision trucks, decent wheels. that's a pintail, for cruising. it's the equivalent to a Walmart street board.

you're funny! thanks for the vid. i used to skate in the early 90's- pretty sure longboards were around then but i never saw them they weren't too popular with my 'crew'. all i ever felt comfortable with was cruising and taking stairs anyway, so i just ordered my first longboard ever today and i'm very excited to get back into it!!! interested to see how it feels different to the short boards i was used to back in the day. (and yes it's perfectly fine for a 37 year old woman to want a new longboard!)

i'd hate to be that guy, but as a skater, both long and short, I can say that that is not considered a longboard by most of the lbder community. its a 'wrongboard'. An example of what WE consider longboards, would be the DB Lunchtray, Arbor James Kelly Pro, Landyachtz Peacemaker, Omen Barfight, the list goes on. That is an old cruiser, pintail shape, not a freeride, DH or freestyle (some of the many disciplines) board by any means. No arguments, im a skater as well. Just want to put that out there

Longboard: Meant for crusing, longdistance, downhill, and quicker point A to B why, because the wheel on the long board are meant to overcome rocks and bumps easier. Skateboard/Shortboard: Short, meant for tricks and style, gets from point A to B slower why, because the wheels aren't meant for rough surfaces and they will sometimes stop on small rocks and can't take bumps as easy. Pros and cons. Longboard: Rolls awesome for chill scenery rides but, can't really do tricks. Skateboard: Awesome for tricking and you can showoff but, Will takes bumps and rocks riding in s sand pit. Those are the differences. And actually due to the longboard rolling alot easier, I recommend starting off on a skateboard for beginners. I case your wondering I longboard. I'm always on the go so I kinda need it and they are very unique in their own way.

I started on a skateboard to a longboard. Understanding momentum and center force of gravity makes you stronger on the longboards. Thats if you plan to go over 40 miles an hour bombing hills and distance. Something you wouldn't essentially do on a skate deck. I prefer to have both. I like ripping through on my skateboard in the neighborhood and then bombing the back streets and hills through town with the longboard.

I'm a longboarder, but I recently got three skateboards at goodwill since I don't really have the money to get a nice one. I had to save up money to get my longboard, and I don't really wanna go through that trouble again. I love watching these videos because I'm too nervous to go to my skatepark when I'm not really good at riding a skateboard. I've only learned how to somewhat do an ollie so far.

Who cruises anymore?? It's all about Downhill speed.

Longboarding is NOT cruising and NOT surfing. Longboarding is racing down a mountain at 70 mph. Longboarding is sliding and drifting down a curvy hill. The longboard you had with you very poorly represents the actual sport of downhill skating(longboarding)

Guess this video is just to give his opinion on longboards from the perspective of a skateboarder, that he is ok with them. This isn't really a comparison, there are lots of tricks to be done with a longboard. Thing is I used to skate when I was a teenager (not too well), but being 29 now, even if I was craving for getting on a board (I do snowboard though), I was terrified getting on a skateboard, starting from scratch and just going to skateparks crowded by teenagers and maybe breaking a bone or two. Getting a longboard (pintail) was the best idea I could have done lately, can hit the streets and any other surface, it's easy, it goes fast, it does everything I want at the moment. But the thing is, once I get really confident on it, I might get a shortboard and re-learn some tricks. :)

You can do tricks on longboards just for everyone who doesn’t know that. There’s longboards and wheels meant more for tricks you just have to buy what you want

I think one difference between the two (and one not often said) is the truck placement. if you look on the longboard the trucks are placed on the far ends with only a little tail to help get over some ledges and give more flex to the center for comfort and balance. while a skateboard has its trucks placed kind on evenly (looks about a quarter of the way in on both sides) this makes it stiffer and allows for pop and tricks at the cost of some balance (which is less noticeable one you get used to it) and comfort (also less noticeable) both have very different uses. on top of all that longboard trucks have a wider wider will base for balance and stability. while skateboards have more of a carve and tight turn. though certain longboard set ups can give the same amount of carve. I said this because there are longboards the size of skateboards and some even smaller so it's not about the board.

I was a long boarder and know how to do every slide in da book and started to get boring especially running up hills... I'm new to skateboarding and doing Ollie's like a king... Love both but more stuck on the shorthand cuz u can do so much more!!! I love both but love the short board more for now

I am a feestyle longboard rider, it is like riding a mixture of odschool skating and traditional skating elements with the classic longboard feeling. A lot of people seem not to know that longboarding is not just casual cruising which elistic skaters hate on but that longboarding is also freestyling similiar to classic skating.

Hasn't the faintest clue about downhill slide and longboard tricks...

Hmmm... long vs short... whitch one would you preffer? ;)))

It seems like every skater compare shortboard to longboards, they used the most crappiest longboard ever which is a pintail. Most people who do longboards don't even like pintails so why are you using it to generalize the entire longboard community.

I like the quiet wheels on a cruiser/longboard. I have both and for the basic stuff like staying on the board is much easier on the slower trickboard than the cruiser that will just slip from under your feet.

I'm 5'4 and my shoe size is 8.5 men what size short-board should I get?

I bought a longboard because I like just riding around enjoying life. My friend bought a short board to get from class to class loooking badass (literally). We cruse together and ride each other's board every now and then. They're both really fun! Just takes a second to remember where to place your kicking foot lol

i started on a longboard a year ago, no tricks, just cruising, although i am beginning to learn the other stance and move around on the board so perhaps i should get a skateboard now too!

This is all wrong they are both different styles you can do park and pool on a skate board and you can slide and go over 60 mph on a longboard both different styles... Not an upgrade or a downgrade just what you prefer to do

Honestly, I think both are pretty cool. Skateboarders can do flips and grinds, and stuff. On longboards, you can do dances on top of them, while you cruise them from side to side, and you can spin them around under you, kinda like a regular skateboard. I wish that some people would just stop hating on each other, and get a grip. More than one kind of something can be cool, at a time

Hill bombing on a longboard is amazing! Tricks at a skate park on a skateboard is cool.
