Many parents on long island do, especially if their parents are cops. It’s not a good thing, I’m just saying. Some parents don’t care because “it’s independence day”… 😔

Landlord is NOT getting insurance, unless this was a legal rental. On Long Island, these are all zoned as single family homes.

Not all homes on LI are single family. There are 2 family homes for sure. 3 on my block alone that are 100% legal to rent. Homeowners pay extra for it to continue to be that way

At least in town and unsupervised we did much younger but we’re out in the country and parents with us. Plus we were taught not to do stupid things ! With them just like firearms had a .22 at 6 YO.

@@henry7765 that’s not the only reason. Usually renters will not care about the house they are renting as much as the owner. This news story is a perfect example of that. Also renters tend to be on the lower income side and bring in crime and noise that is not wanted in these quiet neighborhoods.

I WOULD HATE TO ADD HUMOR TO THIS but in the PC game The Sims, there is an option to buy fireworks and light them off. When you do, everyone stands around and laughs and claps and has a good old time. This is when you have the fireworks outside. If you light them inside, the house catches on fire and depending on how many people are in the house at the time, the furniture and people can start burning. You hear their screams as they die from being burned alive. Its quite a disturbing event that, if you ever did it, you would be sick in the head to want to do it again on purpose. The Sims creators tried to teach gamers a life lesson here. Obviously, this 11 yo and their father never played the game.

The fireworks he gave his son.....???? ......What an idiot!!! .....He should also be charged with being a complete and total idiot!!!!..... It's a miracle noone was hurt!!!!..... This is the reason fireworks should only be handled by professionals!!! 🙄🙏

You allow it, you manufacture it, you distribute it. You know incidents will happen. Yet you blame the stupid. ENABLING is also a crime!

Somebody's Insurance isn't going to pay that's why they do a lot of charges at that guy. It'll be a tear down and a vacant lot. And the HOA is probably very upset about that.

Was it fireworks? Or, was it a sparkler or something smaller along those lines? My parents and may other parents let their kids use sparklers. Remember writing our names in the air with sparklers?

These people have no clue what the significance of the holiday is, but just follow blindly.

Of all comments here, it doesn't have to be fireworks to cause a fire of that magnitude. Playing with matches or lighters, or even horrible accidents with stoves, ovens, or even grills can cause a fire of that magnitude too.
