The welfare system creates and harbors this type of environment, which lead to the attempted killing of this cat. This is why welfare needs to be reformed and only given to those with mental/physical disabilities preventing them from working.

Most states have five year prison sentences for felony animal abuse. A Florida judge just enforced it, over cruelty to a dog. All judges everywhere need to enforce tough penalties!

Finally, the smartest answer I’ve seen on this thread. Thank you, yes, you are correct, I investigated animal cruelty cases for 11 years and learned a lot. It depends on the state, I would have to agree with you, most states have up to five years prison time and it’s a felony, but sadly in some states it’s a misdemeanor. In My Home state it’s up to seven years plus a fine.

These evil people who threw her need to be charged for murder. Poor kitty.

Actually, laws are in place with each state, but each state varies, some states have very strong animal cruelty laws like Massachusetts and Texas. And some states don’t. You have to write to your state senators and Congress members asking for stronger animal cruelty, laws, and longer jail sentences.

Instead of seeing the negative in the comment, maybe 420Meatwad's seen enough to feel this. Things animal rescuers see can make the hardest hearts break. Volunteer in a shelter/POUND, And then judge. I thank Goodness EVERY DAY for any person involved with animal rescue. I still volunteer offsite.

Someone did something similar in New York but the cops were literally standing a few feet away and observed the crime. One of the responding officers was openly weeping as she rushed the cat to the vet.

They say “quite possibly thrown” ,so not sure if fell or thrown. If the trajectory was out ,away from the building then down, that would definitely be thrown. Nobody reported a lost cat ,so that’s suspect.

I was wondering the same thing, because cats do sometimes perch in precarious places. I don’t own a cat, nor do I have a balcony, but I wouldn’t be allowing a cat out on a balcony like that for precisely the reason I mentioned above. Cats do like to perch, often in precarious positions, though not usually twelve feet above the ground. Less likely, but certainly plausible is that a predatory bird got a hold of her, and then released her, though she probably would have had wounds to confirm that. I have a friend whose cat escaped an attack from a predator, and was wounded.

​@@johncronin9540Some cats will also jump from far too high up. Idk about 12 stories though. And she is far too large a cat for any bird of prey in the US. They may be saying she was "possibly" thrown due to legal reasons. The person hasn't been caught and charged yet, or that person is a minor.

Someone did this to a dog at an apartment complex where I lived. The dog died. 💔 Luckily, the guy was arrested.

😢 When my mom's senior cat was sick and dying she met a young cat at the vet's office that was recovering from a broken jaw. The vet wasn't able to give the cat's backstory, just that the injury was typical of a fall from a height. When her senior tuxie passed she adopted the recovered young tuxie. He has been the most affectionate and bonded cat she has ever had. He hit the jackpot with my mom ending up being at home with him a lot. Two weeks due to injury soon after she got him, then COVID hitting soon after that, government furloughs, a knee surgery. He loves having his favorite person at home and so content just to lay on her desk or watch the birds out the window.

Addendum: I hope Roo recovers from her wounds physical and psychological and finds a companion who can truly care for her needs. Blessings on the people who stepped in to care and pay while she recovers. I shared about my mom's cat to demonstrate how affectionate and grateful a cat can be who receives medical attention and a good home. It's absolutely worthwhile and the right thing to do to fund organizations that can care for injured cat's needs rather than be forced to euthanize from lack of resources.

I've unfortunately seen a few of these animal abuse stories with outrageous medical bills, and I don't get it. I'm not in the US, and I've seen petitions for donations to pay medical bills for animals in need in other places, and they're never this high. What the hell is costing so much over there? I've also seen a few invoices from American pet tutors asking for help, and noticed something as basic as spending the night, excluding medical care, is absurdly expensive. How does that even make sense? I'm in Europe, and something as we see in this case and that costs $10,000 in the US would probably rank up to about less than half here. What are your vets charging for? That said, I'm glad she was saved. There had better be an investigation on this, the person who threw her needs to be held accountable and punished. If they saw her get thrown someone in that building knows where she lived and who did it.

Depends on how extensive the injuries were. If the shelter couldn't fix them, and they were going to euthanize, the cat might have needed to see a specialist. Her bones could've shattered so badly only a very good surgeon could've helped. She fell around 120 feet/36 meters. It wasn't a small break. Both of her front legs are in casts and her jaw was injured as well, and that's the most we can see in the video. She's very fortunate to still be alive, and I hope both legs and her jaw will be able to heal properly.

God this breaks my heart. Don’t have a pet if you refuse to love them and take care of them. I’m so sorry Rue! I have 4 cats myself and I would step in front of a car to protect them. They are my babies and part of my family as she should have been theirs.
