London Buses-Routemasters at Finchley & Muswell Hill Garages+Routes 43 & 134, 1986

Another London bus vid back fro 1986. Focusing mainly on Muswell Hill and Finchley Garages, RM & RML's are seen on routes 43 & 134 with an odd shot of route 13. Both these garages have long gone, Finchley is a Homebase and Muswell Hill is now housing. So sit back and enjoy happier times with some real good AEC thrash! If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!

And that's when you went to PB i take it? Did you work on crew at MH? If so did you do the 73's on Sunday's? MH had it for a while after the 134 went OPO as there was no Sunday crew work as the 43 wasd a Mon-Sat route only in those days. I have some MH 73's on vid, taken at the Angel one Sunday when i was out doing the 279A around 88 time if i remember correctly?

@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus Yes, I went to PB when MH closed. I did indeed drive the crew 43 and 73 on Sundays, the 43 went OPO in June 1987, so that's when we lost the 73 workings, so your video must have been prior to June 1987. Would be interesting to see it.

Wow, this footage is AMAZING...Finchley was my old stomping ground, I grew up there, and have very fond memories of the area, which has changed ALOT. This brings it all back - remember both garages well, I think they both closed at around the same time in the early 90s. You've managed to catch several other buildings in the North Finchley/Kingsway area which have also long since gone - most notably, the Gaumont Cinema, the Ford Perrys dealership & a small enclave of buildings right on the corner of Kingsway/Ballards Lane, one of them being Mann Egerton car dealers, which was defunct in the very year this was filmed - 1986. Of course, great to see all these lovely AEC RM/RMLs plying the 13, 43, 134s...thank you so much for sharing this. Anything from this area is of significant interest, especially from the 80s.

My pleasure! I had seen a bus enthusiast's cine films he took between 1964 to 68 and took inspiration from them. I too started with cine but it cost a fortune (around £5 for 5 min of silent film, quite a bit back in 1984) but moved on to video the moment i saw the Panasonic M1 camera which took full sized E180 3 hour tapes. The tape cost the same as a cine film in 1985 but not only lasted 3 hours but came with sound! And being a normal sized VHS tape meant no copying what you had filmed unlike the smaller video tape systems, so kept the quality up. While not as good as today's high quality it's not bad, plus uploading to YT does loose a bit of quality i find....

But as these blinds (coded LL side, and VV rear) were both the same size it was possible to mix them up especially if you ran out of one type, i've seen RMs with large numbers in the rear and side!

Private companies have to tender to win the right to operate the route but that's there only income, farebox revenue is TfL's. Outside London of course you commen is sadly very accurate.....
