Locomotive hasn’t run in 30 years, can we start it?
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Hey Folks, in this video we pulled the engine out of a locomotive from 1938. The locomotive and engine are made in the Netherlands. The locomotive is an NS200 Sik. It was used for ranking the cars. The engine itself is a 3 cylinder diesel and was built and installed in the 60’s. The engine hasn’t run since 1995 and the starter is gone. We got the engine to start finally. What should we do with it?

It is called a shunting locomotive. And you should restore the whole thing, as it deliveres some good content for an other public than restoring tanks and military vehicles.

It is quite common with diesel electric locomotives to use the main generator as a starter motor.

As a retired Locomotive maintainer I thought it curious that they didn't know this. I would also hazard a guss and say it's 24 volt. they could have hitched a truck battery to the generator starting fields and cranked it easily.
Definetly restore the whole shunter loco. It's dificult to make it go on the road or on tracks but not impossible for such crazy guys like you and your team. Nice work saving those old things and bringing em back to life!

Restoring a whole loco can be a great video! :D
Great video it's always amazing to see an old rusty piece of engineering come back to life
'Can we fix it?'....Mister Milo becomes Bob the Builder. Time to build a railway track for Thomas the Tank Engine.
If you could work with somebody who wants to run a little railway to build a loop of track where the locomotive currently is, then you should definitely repair the locomotive so you (or a group of rail enthusiasts) can run it around on special occasions. Alternatively, with the right electrical switching equipment, the engine & generator would make an awesome backup generator for your workshop...
Restore the whole locomotive including factorycolors en get it back on the railnetwork!
It's amazing how you speak English, really love to see that!
Rebuild the loco. Then put it in your shop, elevate clear of the ground. Have a bar in front. Then you have a working indoor loco with a nice sound, great to look at too. English re-cap was excellent.
Bring over the rest of the locomotive
Pull starting an engine with a forklift was ingenious. I often come up with some unconventional problem solving but I'm not sure I would have thought of that.
I love how it's cooled by diesel, so the diesel comes from the fuel tank around the cooling system through the filter then into the combustion chamber?
Put the engine back in the loco. The chassis can then easily be used as a table for holding beers so this really satisfies both options.
Fix it as power back up generator for the house ! Build nice sound proof shed for it and that would be cool.

We are currently restoring a 2ft 3inch ( 68.5 cm.) gauge railway in N Wales, and are looking for our first loco. Also many other heritage railways are in the same position.
Get the whole locomotive! Not many people on youtube are doing trains so you'll have something pretty unique to share here as well as something cool to enjoy yourself
I want to see you rebuild the entire locomotive! Back to it's original glory!👍
You can't kill an old mechanical diesel engine. Love the starting procedure! Restore the whole loco and have your own railway.
Definitely bring home the rest of the locomotive 👍🏻👍🏻

Wow your English has gotten a lot better since the last time I tuned in, well done.
Definitely restore it all including that cool box car! That engine needs its train back now that it runs again! Great Job! Too bad the original engine wasn’t in it, would’ve liked to have seen that too.
A Master like Milo have to repair the whole locomotive! but where to drive? are there any tracks left on tech beach to ride? or built some new tracks naar de werkplaats? (Maybe its possible to power the werkplaats with the generator too) greetings from germany
it was really nice when it finally got its stride and settled to the traditional loco idle/sound. "ahhh THERE it is!"

Dear Emile (alias Milo), The sound of this 3 cylinder 4 stroke dieselenige is absolutely beautiful thanks to the long stroke of the engine. At the time they were indestructible engines that were produced by Stork Diesel under the name Stork R153, 4 stroke 3 cyl. That the engine was and is reliable is what you’ve proved by starting the engine by any repair but with some love only. I look forward to your next vlog

@@mmm365jobless people were sent there to work sanding old trains without proper protection. If they didn't go to work there they would cut their benefits Most got pretty bad chronic health problems from that. It ended with a big lawsuit. I love the NS railways, such unique locos!!

Get it ALL! Loco and carriages would all be treasured by historical restoration folks. Entire working early Diesel-Electric Shunter loco especially: that one is a rarity.
These locos were diesel-electric and were built in abundance from the mid thirties. There are quite a few still around on heritage lines. Officially classed as "shunting-aids", they could be driven by people without a full license and controlled from the running boards on each side. Virtually every station had one or more often used to shunt cars around the station, neighbouring branch lines and private sidings.

Good video bring over The Rest Of the Locomotive And Back in
That is quite a fuel knock at startup. Makes me think of the old Mack engines, when they accelerated they sounded like they had a bunch of marbles in the cylinders.
It's a Sik shunter, and was operated by standing on the sides, not from in the cab. It was said to have replaced the shunting horse. There was a whistle operated by a flap from the exhaust. As this had a tendency to leak it made a bleating noise like a goat, and I think that is how it got its name :-)
