    Actually Lobsters were found to have a fairly high level of intellgence and advanced cognitive behaviours, in a large and long study, some years ago. They also were shown to have a high level of activity in their Brains, in the pain receptors area of their Brains, when injured or before death in food preparation, and they were proved to have an increased adrenalin surge in scary situation, proving that they do experience pain, and forcing many Countries to add into their own Law, a humane kill method for Lobsters, Crabs, and other Seafood, into their Animal Welfare Statutes.

    Just go straight to 4:00 and set the speed to 2x. There, I just saved 4 minutes of your life. Also, you can see the lobster is desperately looking for a place to hide after he molted his old skin... Lobster after molting is the most vulnerable moments of his life, so he's terribly afraid at that moment. Don't surprise or even get close to him, he will get extremely stressed. You'd better put a pipe or something for him to hide.

    Technically lobsters aren't capable of dying of our concept of "old age" as their somatic cells produce telomerase, an enzyme that repairs telomeres - an essential part of cell division. The cause for true old age death is telomere shrinkage results in an inability to facilitate cell division and thus cells die and are unable to engage in mitosis beforehand. Thus telomerase eliminates this "life clock" and essentially allows for lobsters to live until the conditions that they face are insufficient for supporting their life, or they contract some sort of fatal pathogen.

    +jetter820 yes my lobster has 3 caves and when he sheds his shell, he goes to his favourite cave, stays there a few days till the shell hardens off, then life goes back to normal..as fish ect can take a bite while the shell is soft, not in my tank as i have a tank where no ones eats anyone, but they eat their old shell it puts nutrients back for the new shell, its all facinating for sure :D

    ***** Thank you, my lobster lenny sure is star attraction in my tank, when guests come over i let them throw in a pleco wafer or algae wafer they are transfixed watching him eat, but its so fasinating watching them eat its easy to overfeed them, but if they shed their shell too often due to over feeding it can shorten their life span so i am very careful :D

    The reason it tries to slam into the corner of the tank is because hew ants to hide. All creatures of the sea that shed a shell need a hiding place to live properly. This little guy is having the equivalent of a panic attack.

  • @fallenseraph3256
    @fallenseraph32567 жыл бұрын

    The moment he sheds it he's like "AHH! Help! There's a dead body in here!" I wonder if they have an instinct to flee the area because the shell might attract predators or perhaps the are just soft and vunerabe immediately after shedding, so they look for cover until they toughen up.

    I had one just like this for 6 years called Arnold ,I never actually saw him shed but found his husk many many times unfortunately he escaped his tank on day we could not find him any where three months we surched and never found him we were completely barreled until we had an issue with our washing machine and move it out to fix it and there was Arnold at the back of it all dry and dead very very sad indeed .he was beautiful and sorely missed .

    you people just don't get that animals have none of these thoughts that people do. the damn thing can't even think enough to know it's alive. your just giving emotions to the animal because you don't have the mental capacity to understand animals don't think like we do.

  • @TheSinningclown

    It has been argued that lobsters do not possess a true brain and so can't feel pain. It is fair to say that they are not self-aware in the same way that we are, but they do react to tissue damage both physically and hormonally, so they are obviously capable of detecting pain on some level. In fact, the hormone that they release into the bloodstream, cortisol, is the same one that humans produce when hurt. But the most visible sign of distress is the twitching tail, which evolved as an escape reflex. Researchers at the University of Maine found that putting the lobster on ice for 15 minutes before dropping it into boiling water produced the shortest tail-twitching interval (20 seconds). Contrary to the popular urban myth though, placing the lobster in cold water that is then slowly brought to the boil does not anaesthetise the animal and appears to extend its suffering. Your point?

  • @camronreynosa4958

    TheSinningclown how one presieves pain is not as simple as saying ow and tending a wound. many living organisimes react to physical contact including plants. the argument people are trying to use here is toruture, but all organisms have some form or another of self preservational reflex. what we understand as land animal is that pain is the high priority instinctual defence to alert us to many forms of potential danger and damage.

    No, it is a self defence mechanism. It wants to flee to find a nice cosy hiding place under rocks as its new exoskeleton is extremely soft and they are vulnerable to predators at this time. So it was trying to get away. Plus his old exoskeleton in the wild can attract attention from predators that a freshly moulted lobster is nearby.
