    I do not speak French, but it was quite clear that this song caught you by surprise. As the band matured they took their position of social responsibility very serious, Neil’s lyrics during this period, IMO, are some of his most important. It would be impossible to determine how many lives were actually saved by this song but I know one person who was influenced enough to continue their struggles and for that I am eternally grateful. Look forward to your follow up video. ✌️☝️☝️✌️

    To be caught off guard, both by the music and the topic, is an accurate statement. And being hit in the heart could be another one. Yup! I say that often : the rock fans, we love most often the "teenage-spirited" songs, but rarely "stuff written with maturity", as if they were without a R&R mindset. Somethings sill make me angry, and rock could be the perfect vehicle for that (metal in particular), but my focus is on other topics : injustice, environmental foolishness, etc. This song shows clearly men thinking about a younger generation, maybe as old brothers or even parents, caring for someone else. And it is a great song. I loved making the analysis, yesterday!

    A song about teen suicide...if you check some other reactions to this song, you will see comments from many of how this particular song helped prevent, or even prevented some from such a final act of desperation...there is no value you can assign to a song such as this that helped those in need and changed lives not only of those suffering, but preventing the suffering of those who would have lost a loved one. Such power from this RUSH song. I am so glad you chose this one to listen to and analyse. Merci.

    Powerful song, I always liked it but didn't clue in that it was about suicide until much more recently. It's also remarkable I think that the same 3 guys who did stuff like "Anthem" would later do such beautiful (sort of) pop-synth arrangements. This one has aged really well.

    Rush as a band are a concept, the exploration of music and what different directions it can take you. Some fans buy into that concept sit back and enjoy their journey, others jump off because they don't like the direction they took, they didn't buy in. I'm glad I bought in. It was a fantastic ride.

    Well, it might just happen to me. As you know now, it is more circumstances of life and music interests that changed. As a drummer, I move towards jazz rock... So, to be frank, I discover this part of RUSH. The first song on the same album has clearly the swing from jazz playing. I suscpect Neil Peart to have explored that dimension already, in 1989. I will have to double-check this.

    every time I hear this song, my emotions and tears well up....... even though it is about "suicide"..... one can also relate to the Don Quixote feel of it.... chasing windmills and fighting fights that have great meaning to you, yet the world could care less. some call it an army of one, owned by none....

    You should continue into the 90s Rush just got better with time in my opinion there lyrics got much deeper and much more profound Neal delved more into The human condition politics in the world around us as he got older and I truly appreciated that. Test for echo, far cry, are perfect examples of his view of the world in the 90s.

    Alex sings the backup and uses a doubled vocal (split to 2nd channel with slight changes in eq and a touch of delay to give separation) with pitch shift or a "vocal harmonizer" on the doubled channel for harmonies. Creates the image of multiple voices. Or a similar technique... Great reaction, Padre!

    @@GuylainPrince Just a little MIDI along the click track to trigger at appropriate times. The use of click tracks makes live automation SO much easier. I seriously doubt they use clicks on every song (unnecessary), but when "extra" is required a click track or midi pedal button (or very attentive sound man!) is necessary. Live doubling is also somewhat smoother than a backing track. No chance of leading or lagging the track.

  • @GuylainPrince

    @GuylainPrince

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yup! I can understand that. Some drummers don't like to be "told" by a click track how and when to play. But I have no doubt in my mind that the precision, and the constant reflex to improve in Rush would have make them eager to try something new to improve the live rendition of the song. So, I see that to be SO accurate about them... Thanks again!
