Great video! I own a 981 GTS and have a fix for the radio that ”always comes on when you start the car.” Go to settings, Locking, Auto Memory. If it is selected, the car will store the current settings as you left them when you lock it. Get all the settings the way you want (air conditioning, radio volume, radio off, etc.), lock the car, then when you are happy with the way the car starts up, de-select the Auto Memory and it will always start up the same way, regardless of how you left it.

I have a 911 GTS, and the Cayman GTS honestly looks better and sounds the same, just a little less HP and half the price which is crazy.

Lovely video! Had a 981 GTS myself. Couldnt agree with you more than it is a FANTASTIC car. PERIOD. I had the Sports Bucket seats and yet, those are comfortable enough for my daily AND clocking 800km at one go...not kidding. You didnt mention the semi-hidden cubby holes just behind the door pillars....those are my favs. As for the radio coming on, strangely mine doesnt. It just stays in whichever mode it was when I shut down the car. Even my Auto Start-stop stays off. Could be a factory-programmable option.

Luke, great video!! I own a 981CGTS as well - with the passenger seatbelt, you can move the little clip underneath the buckle (as well as the buckle) all the way up to where the belt goes into the car body, and it'll hold there steadily and not make any more noise!

Depending on your location and your planned use, the GTS might be a better choice than the GT4. As a daily driver, the GT4 can be difficult due to the stiffer ride and no way of raising the front nose over speed bumps. However, as a track toy, the GT4 is crazy fun.

Lots of people run "illegal" exhausts in switzerland, with the soul headers you're still within the limits I would say of reasonable. Still has cats and as long you are smart with where you accelerate and take your car in for inspection to the right place. No worries to be had.

Yeah this is true but the problem is I am open on social media so I can't do it. If I openly show a video that I fitted an illegal exhaust then that's enough for a big fine coming my way, it's easy money for the Swiss police and they love handing out such fines.

Car looks good and awesome road. I currently own a Cayman S 981 I agree with the seatbelt noise on the passenger side my solution is to plug it in. Yes the radio that automatically turns on is annoying. But these are little things I can deal with. The Cayman 981s are awesome! You should consider adding a GT4 diffuser and a ducktail to your car.

Luke it's so good that he can make a video on a Toyota seems cool.

Amazing video of a great car! I would also enjoy a video which dives a bit more into the buying decision. E.g besides the lotus and 4c, what cars did you consider? I'm also considering a Cayman and as such did a lot of research on them. In fact, I even made a video covering the cayman's depreciation curves and future values.

Both of you get a Cayman guys. Looked at an R8 as well and at a few other cars. Test drove 20+ before buying my Cayman S. Best decision of my life. Just go for it

@@minnaala-mantila929 I had a manual V10 R8 before my Cayman GTS. Both are great cars for different reasons. The R8 is much closer to an exotic, but much less practical. I needed a second vehicle with the R8, I don't need one with the Cayman.

03:20 - Luke, you won't find any street legal Headers for the Cayman/Boxster - at least not in Germany (i think you got the same problem in Switzerland)

@@carswithluke You can get the Akra for about 6k at the moment - still expensive.. i can recommend you the M&M exhausts, they got TUV (for Cayman S, should be also possible for GTS at least in Germany, don't know the laws in Switzerland) & sounds good

Now you've found the louder button I guess you've given up the search for an expensive aftermarket exhaust. It sounds pretty mighty with the PSE anyway. Mine makes me smile every journey. The Alpine 110 is getting a lot of good press lately. I would love hear your thoughts in comparison to the 981 Cayman.

Steve Cade You’re right, with the PSE it already sounds mighty and good, not just loud. I still prefer this car to the Alpine mainly for the engine, for a sports car that really excites me it needs a sound to match but as you may have seen from the video I made with the Alpine I really did like that thing, just not as my one car.

All Porsche 981s sound beyond good, from the base to the GT4 they all sound amazing; the PSE just becomes a matter of personal taste. I like the crackles with the PSE but without past 4k revs you hear far more of the howl from the flat 6 engine.

Have you considered the Carnewal headers - they look orginal outside so nobody won’t notice any difference? In my opinion the rear Porsche letters look better under the rear spoiler, rather easy modification, what would you think? I love your wheel color, have to do something about my black ones. And also get the spacers. Keep up the good work!👍

Thanks! Well I have now found out the cat back exhaust can be fitted but the headers could have resulted in a huge fine 😅

I also have a 981 Cayman--fabulous car but the radio thing was irksome. After much digging, etc., I found the simplest fix for the radio coming on every start-up. Pushing the 'on/off' button once only mutes the radio, and it'll come on again when the car is restarted. If you push the off button & hold it for several seconds, though, it will turn the radio OFF--a miracle! When the car is started again, just push the 'on' button to listen to the system--easy as pie.

For the radio issue, I’ve figured out a workaround for my Macan but not sure if it will work for you. You can turn off auto memory function, and leave audio channel in aux. This way when the car starts up it will stay in aux (empty for me)

You also hold the power button for 5-10 secs and the radio shuts down, not sleeps. When you turn on the car the radio is off. Try it out

Does this work for Bluetooth as well? (If I turn off auto memory, then set the input as Bluetooth, will it connect to Bluetooth the next time the car starts up?) I find it super annoying that I have to switch to BT audio every time I turn on the car even though that was the last input I used when I shut the car off.

I have the Soul Performance headers with 200 cell cats on mine here in the US. In my state, we have a pretty tough emissions test and mine passed with those headers. Also, it sounds amazing with the Porsche Sport Exhaust valves open. For total insanity just remove the vacuum so the valves stay wide open all the time.

Are you considering getting some protection on the car? Some sort of ceramic coating or PPF? Would be nice to see such stuff on a video..

Love the Intro! For two of your negative points I might can help you: stick some soft velcro tape on the backside of the co-drivers seatbelt and leave the PCM in Aux or HDD when exiting the car. And just as a "warning" for the next Porsche Meetup: there is a thing about the alignment of the Porsche logos and the air valve (not that I would consist..) 😉

That's what I use as well, but every time I have a passenger, the buckle stopper gets moved down and I have to reach over and move it back up when the passenger gets out. What a pain. #firstworldproblems

The radio can be coded out very easily in a few minutes. The seat belt is not an issue either. The outdated GPS is well ... that can be fixed as well.

You love the sound with PSE so drive in sport and leave it stock

Hahaha, I live in South Carolina U.S. - no emissions or vehicle inspections. I run catless headers and Pro One titanium exhaust behind that. I speed everywhere either a little or a lot and never get tickets with a little patience waiting for the best roads to rev it out. Europe sucks balls.

The 981 has a great stock exhaust. I have yet to hear one improved upon with an after.

highgate14 Yeah its not east, I am guessing the Akrapovic will bring out the sound a bit more and lighter of course but for 6.5k, ouch!

If the PCM3.x is seeming a little dated, check out the NM Automotive mods to enable Apple CarPlay/Android Auto on the headunit, that'll enable you to use the phones mapping or GMaps/Waze and the rest of the CarPlay apps/modes.

I'm in the market for a CGTS so I already know how to fix your problems lol. Cheers. 1. Passenger seatbelt: There's a sliding black loop on the belt. Slide it all the way up to keep the buckle in the highest position. Other option is to hang the seat belt over the bolster and route it through to the part where the seat folds. 2. Control unit: You can retrofit the PCM 3.1 with Apple CarPlay from NM Automotive. Check Rennlist. 3. Radio: Look up 'Porsche car key memory settings tutorial' and turn off auto memory.

​@@carswithluke Forgot you're in Switzerland. Your best bet is probably eBay for both. Genuine Porsche parts are way too expensive.

Luke, pushing and holding the power button for a few seconds before turning off the car will prevent the radio from coming on next time you start that beautiful Cayman of yours. Having to do that is irritating in and of itself, and you also won’t have available your information from “map’ or ‘car’ etc. until you turn the system back on. I continue to look forward to your posts and always enjoy the content.

the 981 gts may be the last boxster and cayman with a pdk and 6 cylinders because the 718 came with 4 cylinders and an option of pdk and the new gt4 and spyder was 6 cylinders and manual only. The last hope is 718 touring slotted between gts and gt4 and spyder.And that is why i love the 981 gts sooo much.

Interesting compare, for me the Cayman, not just because it’s mine but for me it’s more exciting to drive, rwd mid engined spirts car. The B9 is also super cool but totally different car, more practical.

When a knowledgable and honest guy says the annoying thing about a £60k car is the seat belt rubbing on a trim,....you know your money is/would be well spent!! The cynical among you might say that the 'i can't find a good *Akrapovic* deal' comment was a hint to suppliers but those who know, will understand that...yeah!... why not drop those hints! 🎯🏆😄
