A crazy part of our medical system is on the labor side. We have tons of doctors but a overly large proportion are specialists, but we have a major shortage of general practitioners. This is because GPs make way less money than specialists and med school is super expensive. That’s not all. There is a shortage of GPs despite hospitals often turning down potential residents. Federal hours regulations don’t apply to doctors in residency. Some residents work up to 100 hours in a week. One resident has the job of 2.5. It severely hurts their ability to help patients AND prevents students from entering residency. It’s total artificial scarcity because hospitals want to pay the fewest amount of salaries possible. If Biden only wants milquetoast around-the-edges reforms, he could reduce the hours cap on residents to 40 and forgive federal student loan debt for doctors. But democrats won’t even do the tiny reforms. So go big. Make all public medical school free. Nationalize hospitals. Go big.

it's very fucked up that they're reinforcing dragon hierarchies, and even worse, disparaging small-winged folx. You know, dragons aren't just these one-dimensional beings that you can caricature on the covers of Anne McCaffrey novels and short-sleeve button-up shirts. they're real mythical creatures withe their own internal lives. I hope you think about that and do better.

congratulations on falling for the scam; the government doesn't actually 'run' any of these programs in any meaningful way, all they do is allocate money to pay private contractors, which is exactly why they're shitty inhumane graft mills.

I love how dumb their “doctors get too much money!” Yes podcasters who do nothing are going to tell you that doctors are too spoiled, ya know the people who help the sick? Also, I’m 100% positive that India needs doctors as well and their government does periodically complain how the US and UK basically steals doctors from them leaving a shortage.

@@maknavickas I agree with that make the degree to become a doctor free would probably help. I said that above cuz my sister went through medical school and at least half the participants (including her) had mental breakdowns due to stress.

@@shanemac1646 I mean that stress is caused by artificially limiting the number of students that can be accredited. It creates an insanely and unnecessarily competitive environment. In a sane world, the limits on new people entering a profession would be if they have shown the necessary competency to be able to effectively do the job.
