I grew up in Moore OK, moved to Los Angeles for college (ucla) and my LA born husband and I are now moving back to OK. We have a house in LA, and have done very well financially but we no longer feel a kinship with our friends here in LA. Ppl have become very political and angry if they perceive you to be conservative. I've been asked to leave parties of good friends after being attacked by entire groups of people. I'm often the only Conservative in the room and if you add alcohol to that the entire room can begin to gang up on you. It's very very sad. Oklahoma is my happy place and I am so excited to be fully moved there. Our new house is in Edmond, it cost 1/3 what our house in LA cost and it's double the size and stunning with a movie theater, chefs kitchen, 3 car garage, a huge prairie of land, a pond with geese, fish and a strip of woods. 2 minutes and I'm on Broadway extension. Ideal.

I understand where you are coming from. I lived in Oklahoma 10 years, grew up in Kansas, school in Norman. I have lived in Salem, Oregon the past eight years (moved to take care of my mom there). Doing my respite in Tulsa area (Bixby), for two more weeks. Like you say, political values and so many younger adults have moved there (western Oregon) the past three years following the “Defund the Police” movement. It’s turned into a mess there, not what it once was. A lot more adult maturity here in Oklahoma and people seem to respect others a bit more. Prices are high, don’t like the state tax here in OK, heat is tough right now but overall quality of life is better.

The more OK stays undeveloped the better IMHO. I like it that way. I've seen and lived in beautiful places that have turned ugly because of urban sprawl.

Native Okie here ☺️ Born and raised. I'd like to say I definitely think Okies would consider themselves southern haha for the most part at least I haven't met a single one who doesn't identify with biscuits and gravy, trucks, cowboy boots, cool whip and ranch dressing on everything haha and that's just how we like it. 😜 Oh yes, and country fried (insert desired food here). 👌GO SOONERS!

Insightful video! I recall the Spring Semester Jan.-Mar. of 1979, when I was commuting to Seminole Junior College, from McLoud, OK. It snowed EVERY week at least ONCE or TWICE per week, until late March. The bad thing was in those days, the highway department DID NOT plow the major highways, or salt and sand. So of course, you were traveling on roads that had deep ruts that would refreeze on a daily basis. I truly earned my college credits for that semester and went on to graduate @ University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.

@@jenaparker8152 Good luck to you in your move to the state of Oklahoma. The greatest asset the state of Oklahoma is blessed with is the people that live there. Get involved in a local church, and go from there. In so doing you can network and get to know people locally. Search the web and gather information about the area you had in mind to move to in Oklahoma. I don't want to offend, but I don't meet people via KZread, God Bless you.

This was very helpful. Thank you. My parents are from Oklahoma City. I grew up in So. California and now in Nashville, TN for more than 20 years. I just went back to OKC for a family reunion. TN is considered mid-South. My family and the people I met in Oklahoma seem more Southern in their accents and friendliness, as well as the food I grew up eating. Oklahomans will hold the door for you like they do here. College football is big in both places. I know OK and TX are kind of their own place. Oklahomans will chat with you and say hi like we do here. Midwesterners are not chatters. We took a trip to Indiana recently. As soon as I went into a store, restaurant, etc. in Indiana, people were pleasant, but they were not going to chat. As soon as we crossed back into Kentucky, the people in the convenience store would chat. I can’t move outside the South after living in this culture. Oklahoma would be an exception. It seemed dry contrasted with the humidity here. We have similar seasons, potholes, etc. Becoming an It City has changed Nashville. Not for the better - busy, crowded, expensive, not as friendly, heavy traffic. I hope Oklahoma stays something of a hidden treasure. When we visit OKC again, I’ll look into flying into DFW and see if it’s any cheaper. Rent a car, visit family in Dallas, Austin and OKC, and fly out of DFW.

Thank you for your thoughtful videos, Marcie. I'm from NYC and am investing in land in "affordable" states. Oklahoma is very inexpensive, but seems to be risky because of poverty, poor educational investments, and being "scary" regarding weather for anyone not from the state. Also, there seems to be a lot of news (KOCO) regarding medical marijuana plots and other nefarious drugs (meth.) My question to you: Is it easy to rent in OK? Private home vs. an apartment complex? Thank you, once more, for being so informative and for your integrity.

Here's some cons you failed to mention.. Oklahoma is privately owned there is no land that is public for the citizens... The school systems are failing as of right now you're looking at three to five thousand teachers you're short... School shootings is normal!!! Taking legal actions against your teachers is normal. The southern baptist Christianity is extremely present... Your farmland and housing market is being bought up primarily by China it's by no means financially a good long-term investment... Oklahoma now prides itself I'm being the harshest towards its female citizens in the country! These are huge cons! I don't understand why you would leave them out???
