Living Forever Through AI: Digital Immortality and the Future of Death | Artificial Immortality | ENDEVR Documentary
Robotics & AI - The Future of Humanity: • Robotics & AI - The Fu...
If you were able to create an immortal version of yourself, would you? Until this decade, that question was the stuff of science fiction, but now experts in the fields of artificial intelligence and robotics suggest it will indeed be possible.
This cinematic documentary explores the latest technological advancements in AI, robotics, and biotech, and poses the question: what is the essence of the human mind, and can this be replicated? Or even more unsettling, could we one day meet cloned versions of ourselves - clones that are better, smarter, and immortal?
This film explores these questions with visionaries including Nick Bostrom, author of Superintelligence, Hiroshi Ishiguro, developer of his own uncannily realistic clone Geminoid; Douglas Rushkoff, author of Team Human; Ben Goertzel, founder of Singularity.net who coined the term Artificial General Intelligence; and Deepak Chopra, who is creating his own A.I. mind twin. These visionaries see humanity advancing toward a new age of post-biological life, a world of intelligence without bodies, immortal identity without the limitations of disease, death, and unfulfilled desire. As scientists at the forefront of technology show that a world where humans and machines merge isn’t so far away, we have to ask ourselves will AI be the best or the last thing we ever do?

I don't understand why we make life for ourselves now so much harder than it needs to be, trying to rush towards a future we can't even see. So often it feels like it's too much, like I can't do another day. The only thing that still pushes me forward is the people I care about around me.

We lose sight.... "We're living in a SOCIETY!!" But what helps me, is trying to look at each day with wonder. Too much time on the internet, I have to get out and put my feet in the grass or wonder at the evolution of something like a tree.... It helps to see life through the eyes of my toddler. Though each day, my pain makes me want to die, I have to experience the world through her to completion. Through my grandchildren to completion. I'm too curious. Good luck, buddy.

My husband made many KZread videos before he passed and while I love to occasionally click on to hear his voice, most time it makes me feel sad to listen because I miss him so much! I believe grieving and letting go is a healthy part of life and being able to move on. Making these avatars for your children may do more harm than good !

I am sorry for your loss💖 I totally understand and agree.. it is a very iffy slope to go down on .. I sometimes watch the videos of friends that I lost, and though it is nice to remember, it hurts so much after I hear and see them I found it much easier to deal with the deaths of others who left no videos behind .. not that i don't miss them, but I seemed to be more able to let them go and therefore move on myself

I viewed this from a purely journalistic perspective; an amazing story which requires deeper investigation. Ann achieved that goal beautifully. Well researched, well written, and the production value was excellent. In the end, it did what any great documentary should do. It left we the viewers to decide for ourselves. Well done Ann.

A couple of years ago, I had this dream where I was coming back home at night during winter. I recall walking alone down the quiet streets while it was snowing. As soon as I arrived home, I saw my mother cooking some dinner. However, I was older, which means that she wasn't alive at that time. It was then that I realized she was a robot; it had some cables at the back of its head. Overwhelmed with emotion, I started to cry as I hugged the robot, remembering that my real mother had died. It was an eerie dream, and I'm convinced it's not too far from reality, as robots will never truly replace humans in emotional connections.

yes i try to express this to ppl all the time. i died one time for 2:30 min and i remember everything from once i crossed over. it felt so amazing. just pure bliss, nothing negative can exist there. and no physical body ageing, aching, weighing us down. it's literally like you're higher up, floating & could never even think about wanting for anything because everything is already just right. and i will admit, although such a beautiful & powerful thing it was, for my highschool sweetheart "soul mate" literally bring me back from that realm out of this world, back to earth by calling my name out, shouting and shaking my lifeless body-- i would be lying if i said i don't long for the day that state of total contentment once again becomes my reality. death should be embraced, it's not scary at all because once you get there you don't even have the attachment of memories.. as in you have no recollection of what happened leading up to your death/trauma/how you die, while in the realm of existence beyond this earthly, physical life

My mother used to say that no one truly dies until they are forgotten. This "gimmick" will not achieve anything more than portraits and photographs have done. They cannot tell you what something new tastes like, if it is cold today or if a piece of fruit smells "off". It can only be a moving memory of someone. Granted you can interact with it but eventually the scope of its responses will noticeable that it has limits.

But I'm leaning towards cybersecurity because I know that AI will be writing the programs... Watching this, I am wondering... What should I study if I want to do THIS? (Make the mind files, or the platforms where you can access, understand and control your own data? Or, when it becomes possible, work in uploading consciousness... ?

you don't have to copy your neural data. but your original neural mapping completely transferred to a synthetic body that is impervious to aging. The only thing that would be organic within that new body would literally be not your brain, but the very neural wiring nerves and all memories intact. If you strip down your flesh, your bones, then the flesh of your brain, the water weight of the brain, and what only remains is the nerves and neural networks of your brain with its memories and put it into a new body, would it still be you? I would say yes, a new and improved you because it wasn't copied. but just received a new body basically. Another thing we have to question is what is you, or I? is it the sum of our just our body, or is it the memories, experiences, character, and consciousness which makes us, us? If it turns out that we are more then just bodies but consciousness as well. That means that consciousness itself can be transferred without really killing who you are.

The very notion of immortality presupposes that death is an ending. What if this life is a test, what if we are simply here to grow a soul through empathy and self reflection. Then when we die, the real Life can finally begin. By staying here and avoiding death, we might miss out on the point of it all! Like a college student who never graduates or even leaves the Campus, we might be cheating ourselves out of the ultimate.

The only thing is, this film talks about digital immortality, which, again, is a whole separate thing from any technological breakthrough that successfully transplants one’s soul (consciousness, awareness, memories, senses, feelings, quirks, etc.) into a computer so the person can escape the dying physical body, the soul transplanted into an advanced computer powerful enough and get it transferred into a new viable and durable body. Any promises of “digital immortality” in cloud storage is not immortality if it’s just a digital representation of the individual and not the individual themselves. But I think with the help of AI, that technology will become possible, not just this idea of “digital immortality” in cloud storage when it’s not immortality, specially if the person (soul) they’re based off did not live or survive, so it’s just basically a digital replica, but not the person themselves. Digital immortality offers false hope, but the only technology that can do this is the technology that allows the soul to be transferred from one body to either a powerful and advanced computer and into a new vessel/body. A technology that will wipe out all neurodegenerative conditions, reverse aging, resurrect memories and resurrect lives. That’s the promise of AI, not just placing soulless husks to be stored in cloud storage.

I really loved this documentary and it was extremely interesting to see what the people in the beginning believe, as I had never heard of this faith before. I was also very hyped about all the new technologies you showed. Then the documentary got to the 55min mark and it was really downhill from there for me. I was absolutely not expecting to see a "doom and gloom" portion in this specific video. In fact, I thought we'd get to see some more impressive inventions instead. I dislike that every AI documentary seems to be doing this now. As much as I understand showing the flip-side of the coin, why not just make that its own video? Or at least reflect it in the documentary title in some way, so I don't literally get ambushed with all the negativity out of nowhere. The first part felt more like facts and science, and towards the end we see a pastor who subjectively interpreted the bible; a philosopher; and a teacher of media? The documentary went from facts to subjective opinions and that change was pretty crass. Would have definitely been nicer to have these things be separate videos, because that - at least for me - ended up killing all of my excitement for the tech advancements.

As a fellow Korean-American, I enjoyed this and it took me places where I grew up back in the days... Not sure if the days when we can capture all those memories and exist forever for our loved ones would actually be realized or not... but humans are curious and resilient... you just never know I suppose. Thank you for an amazing production.

We already live forever and shed our earthly avatars after every life we choose to experience here on earth. The life files are all already in the Akashic records. Her dad’s avatar has dementia, not his higher self.

Also for the growing brains from stem cells, is it possible to introduce cerebral spinal fluid or some form of hair or DNA from a living or deceased person into a designated growing brain to transfer that persons unique DNA, memory or characteristics? Maybe introduce gene editing to remove potential diseases and illnesses from the new brain?

This world is what you make it. If you're miserable, its your own fault. Happiness. Bliss. Joy. It's all a state of mind. Just as misery is also. You don't have to be unhappy. Once you learn to master your state of mind, you can transcend unhappiness.

After living with severe chronic pain 30 years I don't agree. We could live well all of us if we had the gift of good health. Without good health nothing else matters.
