The rich were fat when food was scarce, so you had to have money to eat well, and those with money didn't need to slave away so they were more sedentary. The poor are fat now because good healthy food is scarce, so you have to have time/money to cook, eat well, and you probably need to be wealthy to 'afford the time' to play sports, exercise, overall have healthy hobbies, whilst those working 2-3 jobs don't. I mostly agree, but its not one or the other. We can live in a world that is set up to allow people to eat themselves to death so companies can profit. This is wrong. And also person responsibility is a major factor. Honestly fast food is a bad system since they cant even afford to pay their employees a living wage while offering cheap calorie dense food that even poor people can afford to eat regularly. I think both these companies and the people who are being "lazy" and not taking care of themselves have a lot of room for improvement.

I think we should help overweight people feel normal and human so they aren't deterred from going to the gym or seeing doctors and nutritionists. We shouldn't demonize fat people but also don't allow people to lie and say you can be "healthy at any size" when after maybe 300 pounds there are serious health risks and mobility limitations. Good for you. Majority from the 90's on got more fat/obese over time caused by a change in dietary recommendations from mostly meat, eggs, fish, dairy, fat with sides of veg and the odd dessert to mostly veg, grains, legumes, veg oils and fruit. Started I believe because a few US Senators eating way too much rich food had heart attacks and colleagues wanted answers. Plenty of plant based advocates and cereal manufacturers willing to put their hands up and take the funds to produce studies saying what they wanted to hear. The theory being lower calories, plenty of undigestible expelled fibre will 'fix' all issues. Most not enjoying the diet add processed or swapped to processed. This experiment is a massive disaster.

I was 236 lbs 6 years ago. I lost my car and had to start taking the bus. Which ment I had to walk outside in the heat of Florida. I got down to 150,lbs . Today I've gained 20lbs back. It's very scary. There are 2 reasons I feel are why . The first one is I started taking Uber more . Which ment I'm not walking as much and the second is stress. I know that when I'm financially stressed out I snack more. So not exercising like I was has also added to my stress because I'm not releasing the stress. So I got terrified of putting on to much weight so I started taking the bus at least one to three times a week. I've been trying to cut sugar out but I'm so addicted to it that I get headaches and sometimes I feel lightheaded. So that's a work in process. I definitely don't want to gain anymore weight so I have to put in the work even when I don't want to. Especially when I don't want to 😊

Of course, food is to blame but if the US encouraged its citizens to walk or bike when they’re in the cities, and if US cities were designed better for pedestrians and bikes, obesity rates wouldn’t be as high. Now maybe I’m naive, because I’m fortunate enough to live in Montreal (aka one of the most walkable cities in North America) but honestly… if Americans could walk or bike instead of drive for a 5 minutes commute, y’all would be much healthier.

Can opiate users then not be considered victims of the pharmaceutical industry? When tens of thousands of doctors in America were over-prescribing synthetic heroin for PMS and toothaches, who's fault was it that those people became addicted to opiates? If you think like I do, which is that the pharmaceutical industry lied to and preyed on Americans en masse by pushing their poison down our throats, is it then such a far stretch to think that the fast food industry in America might share at least SOME culpability for the prevalence of dangerous and addictive foods in this country? Conversely, if you think that obese Americans are entirely and completely to blame for the obesity epidemic in America, then certainly you must agree that the pharmaceutical industry carries no blame for the opiate epidemic?

Dinner: fried ground meat in lard or butter, add some cut up vegetables, a potato that's been cooked a few days ago, or some boiled rice, brown a bit and serve! For snack 2 pieces of fresh fruit. That's what we eat daily. It's cheaper than anything you can buy in fast food joints, low carb, and much more nutritious.

As someone who was overweight growing up in my teen years, 270 lbs and size 44, I decided at 15 to make different choices. Over the next 2 years, by doing so I came down to 185 lbs and a size 38. I finally set in at 150-160 and a size 32, and I remain that still at 64. Thankfully on no meds, and no health issues. My problem, like many today, was simply overeating. I could blame my parents for divorcing, the kids for picking on me, or the fast food industry, but the fact was that I simply made bad choices. Don't blame fast food, because they do not force you in to eat, and if you do there are choices that are reasonable. As far as airline travel, if you take up 2 seats then you pay for 2 seats. That is not discrimination, that is fair to the person who only needs one and does not want to share half of what they paid for with you. People today are looking to be a victim, and seeking someone or something to blame. Stop it, just stop it, and make better choices, get up do more activities, and quit looking for someone to blame other than the person in the mirror who has caused the problem.

Taking time out to cook can be quite the pain, but there are ways to work around it. Prepping meals for the week on a day off is an option. Crock Pots, Instant Pots, and Air Fryers can be quite helpful as well. With an air fryer, I can prepare a piece of chicken or salmon in 20 minutes or less, while the meat is cooking, I prepare my side dishes. Although the word fryer is in the name, you're not actually frying anything either. I just put a little healthy oil, like avocado oil, on the meat to help the seasoning stick, and most of the excess fat on the meat cooks off. Cooking was far more tedious for me before I got an air fryer, I've only used my oven maybe ten times in three years since I started using it. When I got rid of the extra 40 pounds I was carrying, I focused on cutting out my soda/juice consumption, and smaller portions. I trained myself to eat slower so I wouldn't eat until full, just satisfied. I didn't exercise due to chronic pain issues, but got plenty of walking in at work. Good luck losing the weight. You can do this.

I went low carb in Oct 2021 after being diagnosed with diabetes; remitted successfully. Once I reduced the carbs the cravings also reduced. Without even trying I lost weight; I can only do stretching, strengthening and light hand weights due to back and knee issues. I now weigh what I did back in the mid 1980s before having children. Went from 80kg down to 60kg. Waist was 44" and it's now 36". Other than shoes and socks I have to get a whole new wardrobe of clothes. Thankfully I've been able to get a lot of my tops / blouses from the second hand shop.

The doctor wanted to put me on metformin, a statin and see a dietician (which I did - a hospital diabetes dietician in Australia - and she told me I wasn't eating enough carbs and that I would lose muscle; I proved her wrong - I got checked by a exercise physiologist after 1 year). For me it was learning that you can go blind and/or end up on kidney dialysis (I already knew you could lose toes / limbs). My husband ended up on peritoneal dialysis after he contracted Wegeners Granulomatosis. We checked out about both types of dialysis and he decided on PD. Both forms of dialysis impact your life in a big way.

Wow, what a boring, one-sided diet to have... For someone like me, who can't stand red meat and is cautious about fish that's either full of antibiotics if it's cultivated, or micro-plastics or mercury if it's wild caught, that kind of diet would be absolutely not sustainable for me. Also, there's a ton of health benefits from complex carbs like whole grains, legumes and lentils that I just cannot do without. A restrictive diet may be quiet nice while you're healing if you had a very bad one before. But it's definitely not an ultimate long-term solution, since we as omnivores - not carnivores or frugivores or whichever bull💩 term ppl come up with nowadays - thrive only on diverse diet that consists of plants AND animal proteins, because that's how we get all the nutrients, minerals and vitamins we need. The only things we have to watch is the amounts we consume and those foods being processed as little as possible. Home cooked meals that contain no additives or other harmful ingredients are the healthiest option. Other than that there's no need for restrictions that do more harm than good in the long run.

I'd much rather feel good, not be in pain from my autoimmune disease, not have digestive issues and be able to play with my toddlers. There's nothing boring about actually living life.

@@angbaby56I’m the same. I’ve been carnivore for 60 days lost 6kg. Reduced two of my meds, 3 to go. I feel amazing. I sleep so much better and I have energy all day. I’m not bored at all. I eat two meals a day and I have no cravings for carbs, sugar, veggies or any processed foods. Carnivore is my lifestyle.

@@rempseaheinamies9414 Is an alcoholic to blame? Partially yes, but we know it's much more complex and it's an illness too. Do we require the alcohol industry to be regulated to limit their ability to exploit the most vulnerable, like children for example? Yes we do. Food is different from alcohol or cigarettes, because we cannot live without it, so selling something that's pretending to be food but is really harmful to you, that should be treated as a very serious crime.

@@frusia123 Absolutely. Same kind of completely volunteer and excess binging. Not an illness either, totally voluntary choice. Sure, all companies that push this toxic junk called fast food should face the music but they are not forcing anyone to eat it. Eater bears all the choices here and also ultimate responsibility to their bodies. They certainly can't say that they didn't know it was unhealthy.

Those girls that go in a camp, they should not give them cereals coz they are sugar. They should eat more protein to curb their appetite. If they eat more protein it makes them more fuller and refrain from snacking until the next meal. They can have eggs in different ways of preparing it. Avocado for good fat. And so on....

Right, if they gave them bacon and eggs with butter for breakfast, salmon and chicken for lunch, and beef for dinner, they would not be hungry, and they would drop all the weight. Cereal with bananas? These are all sugars, these kids are going to be craving food all day.

You and I might argue with some of the methods, but teaching them about food, exercise, cooking, and hunger signals is way healthier than how most teens are encouraged to control weight. Kids should learn these things at home and school, but most don't.

About a decade ago I gained 60 pounds real quick due to hypothyroidism. With the weight gain came a fat liver, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and joint pain. My wake up call was when my physician told me I was pre diabetic, which pushed me to go on a low carb lifestyle. It was the best decision of my life! I lost it all and kept it off. Needless to say my health issues went away. I enjoy cooking with my husband and we try delicious low carb recipes all the time. And nowadays there are so many low carb ingredients available. People want the easy way out but no pain no gain.

At my highest weight of 435 lbs morbidly obese, pre diabetic and high blood pressure. I was absolutely miserable, I got back into the gym in June 2021, prioritizing lifting weights over cardio and eating in a calorie deficit. I've lost 226 lbs naturally, I know not everyone can do it that way, and they need medical intervention, but that's the way I wanted to go. It can be done if done right, but you have to want to do it. It has to be sustainable. This is for the rest of your life.

The fact that the narrator thinks 20,000 calories is a week's worth of food is pretty disturbing. 20,000 calories a week will leave you obese, unless you are expending huge amounts of energy. Majority of people require less than 2,000 calories a day.
