The semi-final legs as well don't get talked about enough, Chelsea were an absolute juggarnaut at that point expected to walk to the final but over the two legs they created next to nothing and most of that was down to Carragher

Watching this reminds you how much of an absolute beast Gerrard was. This was when he was still a classic box to box midfielder and he dominated games. After this season Rafa started playing him a lot further forward and he still dominated games.

What's with the 😭 face? It's a good thing that season we turned our club around, many thanks to Gerrard, the pedigree of the badge and last but not least RAFA. Everything from Juventus to wiping that smug smile off Moutinho to MELLOR finishing off the 'invincible' Arsenal, somehow we hit the big time again even though we were on course to be a footballing relic with no finances, much like a Aston Villa of today, I for one am proud and privileged to see us being on top of world football again, the likes of Barca, Milan, Juve are nothing to us now.

Such an imperfectly perfect success story that is! I had no idea how many times Liverpool did come terribly close to elimination during that campaign! I didn't even know there was a team called Grazer FC who was almost cutting that years champions-to-be out! Also, I used to live in Istanbul those years and the spectacular final game was the nirvana of the year 2005 not only for Liverpool fans but for most of the Istanbul residents too! I clearly remember how disappointed I felt after Milan easily went ahead with 3-0 (as I wanted the final in Istanbul to be an unforgettable memory for everyone) and lost my interest in the match. Then the unthinkable happened and -believe me- there were some people celebrating that comeback madlier than the Liverpool fans themselves. Oh boy, what a night that was!

I was milan fans from Indonesia. this match makes me tense. Very very sad, with 3 - 0 in half time. I think, milan have become a winner. But stevie g n friends have another power. Especially jerzy Dudek. The most unbelievable match that i have watched.

I hope we win the ucl. We can steal the limelight and make city's title insignificant again 😂😂😂

It also makes it funnier because they can't even complain with any legitimacy, and they can't hold it over our heads that we "cheated" the ref did them a favour and they still conceded and hot knocked out by a goal around half a foot in front of the line. This Milan team is absolutely powerful, you have Sheva Crespo Kaka in front, Pilro Seadorf Gattuso in midfield, and then Maldini Nesta Stam and Cafu at the back.

Done a £5 scorecast bet (Luis Garcia to score first and for us to win 1-3) when we played Leverkusen away. After going 3 up, it’s the only time I ever wanted us to concede!! Lol!! Won a few quid that night!!

it's not even an exagerration to say that gerrard was singlehandedly carried this team to the final. he is everywehere on the pitch, tackles, shoots, through pass, long pass and i think rafa did his best to exploit him.

The 04-05 already done it with the average side on paper. They made it far from ucl qualification stage to final and then won it. So, I will say this was amazing underdog run by far in LFC history. The 2017-18 LFC should have done better, considering the side on paper and their better result on the league table but the terrible defense & terrible goalkeeping mistake(by Karius) really costed the team from winning the competition in those season...

well it would still end with trophy win for Liverpool - not as dramatic as it really happened but nonetheless. Jerzy was a decent keeper with a rare ability to play above his level in the final, Allison is better overall and most importantly, a more consistent keeper.

This UCL miracle triumph was more than just the final. On the way to the final there were many opportunities for teams to knock us out, mainly Juventus and Chelsea. I'm not saying the 2004/05 team was bad because it wasn't, but I feel that the team we have now would beat that team quite comfortably.

The only thing that spoils this is that the 2 legs against Bayer Leverkusen are the wrong way around. Liverpool won 3-1 at Anfield and then 3-1 in Leverkusen.

How did they need to win by 2 goals against Olympiacos? They ended with the same W-D-L record, and had +3 goal-difference versus +0. Before the third goal, they already had +2 GD versus +1. So why the need for the 3rd goal? [Just looked it up, and the tie-breaking protocol for that year was cumulative head-to-head scores between the teams, followed by away goals in head-to-head games, and Olympiacos had won 1-0 at home in the first meeting.]
