Live Trapping Beavers
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I never expected to try live trapping a beaver in a cage trap, but the more nuisance jobs I get the more I value having varied experience. Not to mention that there are times when traditional methods just won't work, mostly due to public perception. So to try and be proactive, I found an occasion to use a large cage trap to try and trap a beaver, and it actually worked pretty flawlessly. Just another example of how as trappers adapting and experimenting can help us be better trappers.

I'm going to have to give live trapping beaver another shot now. Thanks Kris.
If I hadn't seen it on your video, I'd not have believed you could use a live cage trap, to catch beavers. Another example of diversity and adaptability, that trappers need to be utilizing, not only to increase catches, by using varied trapping techniques and gear, but, to maybe help break down the barrier between trappers and non trappers, (animal rights groups). And show them that animals can be removed from an area, humanely, and effectively. Great job, Kris. Another tool/ technique that you can add to your trapping arsenal.
Thanks for a very educational video that demonstrates live trapping can work even for beavers. I would not have thought any beaver would enter the cage but that one did. I really believe trappers must constantly try new ideas and experiment with different approaches to see what results can be obtained. I'm guessing you used the live trap for a reason, such as the landowner perhaps having a dog or other pet that might get in the trap by accident, and so didn't want to allow a conibear or even a foot hold trap. Not sure if you ever watch Muskrat Outdoors channel but he had a beaver nuisance job in Idaho recently and the land owner had an old dog that liked to swim in the beaver pond. To try to avoid catching the dog, Muskrat built two floating platforms and mounted conibears to them. He claimed it was an old method he read about in a trapping book but in that case it didn't work. Eventually, the landowner simply put the dog up for a few days and he used foot holds at the dam to catch two huge beavers. It pays to try out new things. Nice to have a few tricks up your sleeve for when you have to use them. Obviously, there isn't any real benefit to catching the beaver in a live trap if you are only going to dispatch it when you get there but it did prove you can live trap beaver! And it does at least keep the meat from spoiling in warm weather. Great video!
Ive tried it once and seen it done once in a drain pipe but it was a highly restrictive corridor which left the beaver no choice but to go into the trap. I cant believe he just walked into a square hole. Awesome
Thanks, now I am in need of cage traps. All kidding aside thanks for another great video keep them coming, I have lots to learn.
Been using cage traps for beaver for 13 years, on land, in water, but mostly under water, double door swim through Comstock traps. Have caught 1,930 beaver as of today and should have more tomorrow. Have caught lots of otter too.
Nice job as always!! I am starting to build 6 live traps for Bobcats. What size is the trap your using? I could builded 2 or 3 just for beavers. Could use them on otters too. I have seen it done. Thanks
I've got a beaver problem, thought about using a snare, but I like the trap also. Nice work 👍
What bait can I use from stuff at home? I live on a farm and want to use bait from scratch, not buy anything. ❤
Interesting video
Hello good afternoon do you still do beaver trap
What trap are you using there?
What size trap is that?
Great video. I’m a trapper in California, and we are pretty much reduced to live traps for everything here now.. don’t let the anti-s ruin your guy’s states like they did here...

Can you clarify what you meant here, please?
What size trap is that? I have a 42" cage trap that I've attempted to use to catch a nuisance beaver. The bait is doing it's job and drawing the beaver in, but it keeps triggering the trap without getting caught. I'm not sure if he's able to back out because his tail is not fully inside, or if he's maybe climbing on top of the trap door and causing it to drop. I thought about picking up a coyote size trap to ensure there's plenty of room, but I'd rather not have to do that. Just going nuts trying to outsmart this furry little devil.

Attach the bait to the rear top of trap on the back wall...

My favorite that lasts a LONG time is Haveaheart (sp?) The only reason why I replaced it was because I accidentally ran over it. 😢
How do you release them from the cage? Do they bite?
