ABOUT ALEXANDER LITVINOVSKY
Alexander Litvinovsky was born in Minsk in 1962. He graduated from the State Music College (1982) as a musicologist, from the Belarusian State Academy of Music in the class of composition under Prof. Dmitry Smolsky (1987) and received a post-graduate degree there (1991). He took part in workshops under the guidance of Jonathan Harvey and Michael Nyman (Great Britain), Louis Andriessen (Holland), Martin Bresnick (USA), Sylvano Bussotti (Italy), Tristan Murail and Fransois-Bernard Mache (France). As a composer he writes in various genres: from chamber, choral and symphonic music to electro-acoustic art. The creative concept: from tradition to avant-garde. Alexander's music has been presented at various festivals and concerts around Europe and USA.
ABOUT "LE GRAND CAHIER"
The Suite for Strings "Le Grand Cahier" (The Notebook) was composed for a stage production based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Hungarian-Swiss writer Agota Kristof (1935-2011). Kristof's novel tells the story of two teenage brothers struggling to survive in a Hungarian bordertown during World War II. Originally written in French and published in Switzerland, the critically acclaimed novel has been described as a "post-Nietzschean nightmare written in the style of a children's diary".
ABOUT THE ORCHESTRA
Captivating, soul-stirring performances of classical and contemporary music. The Metamorphose String Orchestra of Minsk, founded in 2015 by conductor Pavel Lyubomudrov, has been taking the Belarusian music scene by storm with a series of critically acclaimed concerts - and now has its eye on Europe.
Exquisitely blending creativity, tradition and musicianship, the Orchestra’s performances exude a deep love and understanding of music. With a constantly-changing repertoire that spans from Baroque to original arrangements of popular music and contemporary Belarusian composers, the Orchestra proves true to its name: experimentation is in its DNA.
Conductor Pavel Lyubomudrov, a graduate of the St. Petersburg State Conservatory and a pupil of Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation Alexander Vasilyevich Alekseev, has filled the Orchestra’s ranks with some of the country’s finest musicians. Alumni of the St. Petersburg, Moscow and Minsk Conservatoires have joined him on his artistic journey, sharing stages with renowned soloists such as cellists Mikael Samsonov (Germany) and Antonio Mostacci (Italy), violinists Lisa Jacobs (Netherlands) and Andrey Baranov (Switzerland), oboist Juan Manuel García-Cano (Spain), flutist Maria Fedotova and pianist Stanislav Soloviev (Russia), among others.

Is it possible to buy the album in better quality than MP3 ? (FLAC ?)
"Nos Etudes" is one of those songs which you hear just a couple of seconds and you are completely hooked. I heard it in a compilation and I had to google it right there. Few things bring more joy than finding a new and talented musician

Jop, I've listened playlist called Classical music in Winter... very peaceful btw. And after an hour came Nos Etudes and I totally falling in love with that. Masterpiece for my ears ;-)

I still can't believe he's a contemporary composer, his works sound almost better than some of the old classics. Appreciations for making his music accessible for wide audiences!

Alexander Litvinovsky is literaly painting emotions with his music expressing the cold and cruel atmosphere of the novel it refers to, the amazing worth reading twins trilogy written by Agota Kristoff.
I came here after the "Classical Music for Feeling Like a Rockstar" post by HALIDONMUSIC, where I "met" this composer's music for the first time... I can't help but crying every time I get to know good contemporary creators... Not everything is lost!!

I found this through your "Music for Studying" link. Great piece and I have never heard of it until your videos. Thank you for that. Amazing thing is most people aren't aware of anything east of Germany during WW2. Events on the eastern front were much more destructive and terrifying than most American citizens have any knowledge about and this music captures that very well.

Nos Etudes is just a fun song, it's like the instruments are playing with each other. Overall a very beautiful production.

L'incendie is my favorite piece. I am learning all the violons part on my guitar, the fast rhythm and the intensity are incredibly difficult to keep on, even the violons are struggled at 25:00. I can listen to this all day long 😍
