This is truly an insane setup, that's essentially like a $200k turntable. You can get a pretty awesome setup (by most standards) for the cost of his backup cartridge.

I don't know if it's the recording or the room but I'm hearing some major resonances that just shouldn't be there in a system that costs a million bucks. I'd be willing to place a wager that it wouldn't be hard to find a $100k system that sounds better and a $25k system that gets you 95 percent of the way there.

I too thought it had some very unpleasant “barky” resonances in the midrange. I would be very disappointed if I’d spent that money and it sounded like what I heard here.

Many people use the excuse that you can't get the full impression unless you were are in person. Well, I just listened to an open-air recording of a system that probably costs, I'd estimate 3 to $5,000 right here on KZread. And I believe the guy was recording off of his phone it sounded 100 times better... So...hmmm..

Sorry this is so old and I'm replying anyway, but I was feeling like this sounded awful while listening, like it was an accurate recreation of the instruments, but it was playing in the next room. Ignoring the quality of the binaural recording setup, because I don't have personal experience with it, the microphones were placed over 20 feet away from the speakers. There is no system that sounds like $1M, but I'd be willing to be this one sounds much better than the current representation if you were sat in the proper sweet spot, let alone being there in person. But ya regardless of how good this sounds, $100k can get you the exact same sound. The technology in the tonearm on that turntable is super cool, though.

As an old stereo salesman, what I appreciate most here is a young woman who has the passion and desire and absolute knowledge to have a channel such as this. Your presentation is wonderful and the music delightful. I tested 3 sets of earphones on this demo and (understanding the internet system) found that no single one gave me everything in detail, but if I could combine 2 at the same time I would be happy... actually I'm happy now with those I have and they are not budget breakers... Also because the room is made for it to sound better. The only reason you will buy this particular audio is because only you have the money to brag about it. Do not have any sense to me...

The owner of this equipment is apparently about 50-60 years old. And at this age, each person's hearing sensitivity drops by 2-3 kilohertz!!! The frequency range that distinguishes the human ear at this age is about the same as what can be recorded on an ordinary compact cassette from the last century and played it on a cheap Sony Walkman cassette player !!! It is impossible not to agree with this. Arguing with the physiology of the human body is like arguing with your age and the limited time of your life! So... The owner of this expensive equipment perceives sound more visually (admiring his investment in super hi-fi-fetishes) and kinesthetically (stroking the mahogany lacquer of his acoustic systems with his fingers)!!! A million dollars... How many hungry and homeless people could be fed... Everything that he shows us here - he should not brag about it, but be ashamed of it!!! Ashamed of his greed and ashamed of his selfishness!!! In addition, each of the viewers of this video will agree that there are hungry and homeless people in the country of this rich man who built himself an audio crypt for a million dollars... Everything we see in this room is just expensive toys of a stupid child who has not grown up in his 50-60 years...

Admittedly the exotic gear in this vid adds to the allure, but your skillfull touch transforms and presents wonderfully. I'm convinced the "Jana Filter" could easily transform the ubiquitous "white van tower speakers", and present them on equal footing up against Wilson's $600k Master Chronosonic whatevers! THIS is your lane. As mentioned, be it modestly priced high value gear, lavish systems of the highest caliber, or anything in between, your approach is refreshing, your content is solid. I tried so hard to appreciate this system for what it was. Certainly a work of art... But like with most art I just couldn't get over the pretension. I was fixated on the snake oil which so obviously surrounds every 'effort' in that room... The manufacturers saw this gentleman coming and skillfully played into his obsession in order to secure inordinate amounts of profit... Truth be told, a properly set up $5,000 system can probably sound just as transparent.

So... "'Binaural".... LOL. There's no listening device that will get you in this room. IN FACT you're better off listening to a lossless file of the same material, it will sound better than this video. It just can't translate. Cool to see the setup though. (they have to use a mic to capture this, and then you're running it through your own system, which completely negates the speakers/amps they're trying to show off, amongst other reasons).

The video is shot and edited very professionally. Can't say same thing about audio recording - it seems that the sound is unbalanced to the right and, definitely, there is clipping in some parts (like at 11:33 - vocals).

@@urwholefamilydied Imo a good binaural recording can capture to some extent a hi fi system like this to perhaps 80-90%. It depends alot on the mics and recorder being used. The unique way of recording like this is that you get to experience the position of the speakers and the acoustics of the room. Once the sound gets compressed and you listen through headphones a lot of the hi fi gets lost. So listening through an uncompressed file is best. Listening through HQ studio headphone monitors will give the best representation of what was recorded. Having that said this recording needs some improvements. Recording in HD is another technical field in of itself.

@@urwholefamilydied I guess the same is true of the original master. Playback negates the rig the mastering engineer used and the way he "intended you to hear it" lol. The inaccuracies begin at the microphone used during the original recording. "Accurate" is a farce.

@@1sotheary alot of women day to day don't care about home theater/audio. It's a generalization but there isn't anything strange about it. This disparity is largely shown in the KZread audio community as well, with it being mostly men. The only channel I have seen consistently give advice is Andrew Robinson and his wife that gives a woman's perspective. Frankly it stinks, I think men and women can perceive sound differently, so I'd love to get more input.

I'm surprised a one million dollar system would have a simple back loaded horn for bass? Anyway, I admire the passion of someone building a system like this. Keep up the videos.

Firstly, great presentation, thank you so much, and good to see a lovely young lady with intelligence, passion, aspiration AND humility; you were one of the highlights of the video. I have to say that the video made me happy in an unexpected way... As you advised, I listened through some (in my opinion) excellent 20 year old MB Quart 95X headphones, then I did the same again through my B&W CDM1 SE speakers of a similar age, and I can see no reason why I would need to spend anywhere near $1m dollars (if I had it!) to enjoy listening to music. I wonder what "You And Your Friend" or "Telegraph Road" (Dire Straits), or "Midnight Blues" (Snowy White), or "Happiness Is Easy" (Mark Hollis / Talk Talk) might sound like via what is to me an incredible work of art, a showcase of just what we can actually achieve through 'imagineering', and with such beautiful form too (although I think my grandfather would have seen a 'space-ship' as opposed to an esoteric, high-end music delivery system! 😄) If I had $1m to spend on a system like that, then maybe I would simply because I could, and I love music. I'm happy for the guy that has, but I'm even happier for myself now knowing that I'm not really missing-out on something that isn't realistically attainable to me, and there is tremendous value in knowing that alone. I would also hate to think that I would start listening critically to the equipment instead of enjoying the music, which I'm afraid is where I'm sure it would all end up for me, and that would be such a loss. No, I am now at peace with my system - thank you (although I'm sure that B&W ASW610 sub-woofer wouldn't go amiss...), so again, thank you for a great presentation, it has been both enlightening, and a pleasure to view! 🙂👍🙏

I really enjoyed the many measured distances that were provided. That was wonderful. I, too, applaud the investment. Some people buy jet planes, some buy massive yachts, some buy multiple sports cars, and the list goes on. This fellow opted to buy a superb music system. I imagine the listening experience in that space is breathtaking. Congratulations on an amazing investment decision. Enjoy! I will add that I was surprised to not see any soft surfaces on the walls and the globe as the only round surface in the entire room. The wall treatments are all flat surfaces. I have no doubt that their random spacing successfully shatters sound waves that fall into the deeper cavities, however I would think that a lot of sound waves directly ricochet off the front, flat panels and potentially arrive to the optimal seating position faster than, perhaps, desired. Of course, I am most likely wrong, but you typically see more soft bass traps and more use of round deflectors that tend to disperse sound waves in many more directions. That said, it is a wonderful system. Thank you for the share!
