This is a season which rarely, if ever, gets spoken about when discussing Messi’s best seasons. People immediately flock to 10/11, 11/12, 14/15 and more recently 18/19 as his best. I think personally until his injury this was probably the best he played. Everything he did looked so easy, as if he was barely having to make an effort to complete any action he was doing yet he scored in virtually every single game for 3/4 months. His scoring was better than the previous year; statistically his finishing was quite considerably better and he was scoring at a quicker rate. Im fairly confident in saying that the record for scoring in 21 straight league matches won’t be matched. Unfortunately for Barça they peaked too early in this season and by the time the Bayern tie rolled around they were at their lowest point with injuries to Messi, Puyol, Mascherano, Busquets and obviously Tito was very sick and this defined both theirs and Messis’ season. Maybe it’s not his ‘best’ season, but this was Messi at his most unstoppable and dominant.

You are absolutely right, in terms of pure individual talent, this was messi's peak season. People forget that inspite of his injuries, he put up wild scoring and creating numbers, also barcelona made 100 points this season, quite a big achievement

Jay Null how many goals would he have had though. Because he missed like 6 games that season because of the problems and injuries that psg injury cost. He had like 60 so i don’t think it woulda been better than the 11/12 one

That was his own fault as well because after Guardiola left, no had the balls to tell him what to eat and he started eating pizzas and drinking coca cola... He saw his mistake and the following season went to an Italian nutritionist who had him eating vegetables and the guy won the treble the next season with performances like Bayern and Bilbao

Perfect video, it's hard to believe some people still can not comprehend how good this guy is. Messi is a once in a lifetime player/athlete.

@@havertzthefuturegoat2518 Not much Messi can do with the team he has,he is playing with players that are out of form or out of their prime,Griezmann doesn't fit in the system and they're relying on kids like Fati and Puig. In this season in La Liga they gathered the least points since the 07/08 season,Messi doesn't get enough chances on goal even though he is the best finisher in the team and also the injury at the beginning of the season doesn't help. Messi has to go back to the midfield to create way too much.

The season where his transition to becoming an experienced player began at just 25 years old

I think it came a year later after the World Cup final, and fully took on the role after the back to back fiasco of copa America realizing that he wasn’t being “protected” anymore and needed to grow into the role.

And Ribery one of the favorites for Ballon d'or had a better season but individually noone was near Messi.

Ronaldo outscored messi in the calendar year, not the season. In the 2012-13 season messi had 60 goals in 50 games, while Ronaldo had 55 goals in 55 games. Messi played 5 less games and scored 5 more goals. He was simply better. Ronaldo won the ballondor cuz he outscored everyone in the calendar year because messi got injured.
