Yup, after 20 years, and the age of 45, he wins back the lineal heavyweight title..wow. That has to be the greatest achievement in all of boxing.

The George Foreman against Moore might be my favorite moment in boxing history: A man haunted by his past, gives it one last go to achieve the seemingly impossible. Nobody believes he has a real chance, perhaps not even himself. Yet, forward he presses, utilizing every bit of willpower, strength, and grit he can summon. For thirty minutes, which is an ETERNITY in any high-level fight, he endures brutal punishment. Yet....Still....he presses forward. All he needs is a single moment, a flicker, a crack in the armor of his opponent, he just needs to keep enduring. It's so poetic. His journey is a perfect metaphor for life itself. If you want something badly, so badly you're willing to die for it, more often than not... you'll get it.

It is more poetic tan you written. He was a very mean man; everyone was afraid of him. He was invincible. Ali proved him that his ways are wrong. He rebel, until his quit boxing to start family, preach and help the poor. After long time, he returned to became world champion not as fearless juggernaut, but beloved pastor. I wonder no one made a movie about him. Maybe his story is too cliche even for Hollywood.

I almost agree with that...because it WAS..until Hopkins did what he did. George held legendary status for decades...but Bernard was our Philly local guy who defied more than winning the title at the oldest age...he beat the best there was and took our American pride back when we were robbed during the trinidad/De la Hoya fight. He bet his whole fight purse on himself and waved the flags in the middle of the ring.

Nobody brings it home like Joseph Vincent, nobody.

He even hugged Patterson almost like he was asking “am I worthy of this title?” It’s really a shame how he died.

However, I do believe in redemption and mercy through Jesus Christ. I know he probably wasn’t a Christian when he died (I say probably because I wasn’t alive at the time to know whether or not this is the case. All I can do is read about him and watch old fight films of his) but he was still human and pained. I can see what you’re saying though, and I appreciate the advice. People get stripped or retire. There will always be a debate when that happens. This is a list of when a man beats the man. That can't be disputed. I follow mma much more closely. Was DC ever the lhw champ? You can argue no. That shouldn't be forgotten 30 years from now. A lineal list is just that and there's no argument. It doesn't tell the whole story. It's not definitive. If it were you wouldn't need the qualifier "linear".

The way the ring does it (which is probably the most “official” lineal belt) is the #1 and #2 in the division have to fight to determine the new lineal. (Some other exceptions of course it could be #1 and #3 etc)

@newagain - No, that’s wrong. Joe Louis came out of retirement to lose the lineal title to Ezzard Charles. Charles lost to Jersey Joe Walmart. Walcott lost to Marciano, so Marciano was the lineal champ.

Your right... I don't think Ali planned to stay on the ropes... He felt Foreman power and hung on for dear life and once he realized he could avoid the big ko head shots that way thought he could wear him down... He trained to stick and move you can tell that by the first round and by the way his corner yelled at him for staying on the ropes... As far as fear goes, I boxed for twenty years... You're always scared bro!! Every fight I ever fought I was scared and I don't care who you are if you're stepping in that ring you're scared ... Everyone is scared but it's what the hero does in the face of fear that makes him a hero and what the coward doesn't do that makes him a coward - Cusdiamto!!

Fear gives you adrenaline rush and you can either use that to stand there and shake or use it to play, run, fight harder, whatever!! The fight or flight hormone!! When people think they're invincible and lose that fear that's when they get beat!! Foreman, Rousey, McGregor, Silva, Tyson, Lennox Lewis and there's a ton of references that should show a person that.... I won my first twenty matches (fifteen ko's) and thought I was starting to get good and lost a little of that fear and got my first KO myself!! I was beating this guy really bad and was able to keep him off me really well with a double jab followed by a right cross and fade out left (I mixed it up of course but that was my go to for that match) ... Well, I don't remember this, but my coach told me he timed my jab and threw and overhand right that knocked me out and it was my first loss... I remember telling the ref I was on the beach and wondering why I took a nap!! Lol ..... ANYONE can get caught and that taught me that if I don't keep that fear and get too comfortable then even a match I'm in total control of can go the wrong way!! ... You need fear

Foreman literally beat Frazier up like he was a littling. That 1st knockdown had Frazier flying through the air like a rag doll.

Tyson's walkout in that Spinks fight was electric. You could see the fear in Spinks eye before the fight even started. The fight was already over.

Sonny looked like a hit man. One look at the dude you just know he's seen and done some very bad things. One of my all time favorites.

you can't be sure of that unless you can see into the future ... and Tyson Fury hasn't finished yet, so who can say anything for sure ... he predicts, and he gets the right results, and while he'll never out "great" Ali, others are still to come ... not to mention Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Jack Dempsey, Jersey Joe Walcott (who did what Ali did with Holmes, but with Marciano, and previously unbeaten, and past his prime) ... and Jack Johnson was a similar boxer to Ali too

Foreman's victory over Moorer is one of those ones that gives you goosebumps every time you watch it.

This is fantastic, I learned a lot more than I expected to. Amazing work!

The Lineal has always been a better way to measure who the real champion is rather than the alphabet soup of different (and equally corrupt) organizations giving out belts and taking large sanctioning fees for the privilege-- WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF. And is it a belt for the regular champion or the super champion or the interim champion? Boxing is such a badly run sport, it's remarkable it still exists.

@@ChappoGucciMal I think most boxing fans will agree with you. The problem is the sanctioning bodies. Each one seems hell-bent on having their own champ. As an example, fighter A is the WBC champ, and he fights fighter B who is the WBA and IBF champ. Fighter A wins and claims all three belts. Sounds great, all he needs to do now is beat the WBO champ, and he is the undisputed division champion. This is the part that's fucked up. He enters negotiations with the WBO champ's promoter to have a fight with all the belts on the line. Problem is the WBA says that the WBO fighter is not their mandatory challenger and if fighter A does not fight their mandatory challenger then he will have to relinquish the WBA title. That kind of thing happens all the time in modern boxing, fighters being stripped of titles for not fighting whomever the sanctioning bodies decree as the mandatory challenger.

I had known of Rocky since I was a kid. Tyson's era. When I saw how hard he struck opponents I really couldn't believe it. Then I looked at physical makeup. Ideally not tall enough. But solid build. Ideally arms not long enough. But like Aaron Donald playing defensive tackle, arguably aside from QB toughest in the sport to dominate. Marciano had little wasted motion from windup to contact and once the combinations landed good night Irene. When we saw Tyson same thing very solid leverage compact stocky and blessed with handspeed at that size.

You have to also consider that Walcott was winning by a wide margin at that point. Walcott was rightly confident that he could beat Rocky. He knocked Rocky down for the first time in his career, and nearly had him down two or three other times. Rocky couldn't even see him in three of the rounds due to his eyes being shut by Walcott's jab and hook combinations. At the very end of the 13th round Rocky did catch him when he had to. It's similar to how Joe Lewis was losing to Billy Conn, then at the end of the 13th con got too cocky and got himself knocked out. Had Walcott been 10 years younger, Rocky Marciano would never have beaten him. Wolcott wasn't 39 or 40 when they met, he was older than that. Joe Walcott's own mother estimates he was born in 1911. This is why Larry Holmes was so mad at being put down the list from Rocky Marciano. When he first lost to Michael spinks, Larry Holmes stated that Rocky was in his twenties fighting men in their 30s and 40s when he was champion, which was true. Meanwhile Larry was the guy in his 30s taking on prime challengers in their twenties, and still made 20 tile defenses. Rocky suffered from the same type of thing that Larry Holmes did, lack of adequate competition. The only competition that Rocky had was in getting the title in the first place from an old fighter way past his prime, and he's still almost lost.

Imo there's a ton of very great champions that ain't given enough attention... most people know Joe frazier beating ali... or Larry Holmes for losing to tyson and beating ali. All that aside we need a new undisputed.... my vote is on fury but I don't mind tbh.... i like the top 5 all contenders for undisputed (fury,AJ,Wilder,usyk and whyte)

@@newagain9964 it’s for debate, some lineal champion timelines list klitchkos, some don’t. It’s subjective due to retirements etc. I think they both were.

I'll never forget the moment Tyson got knocked out. We were having a PPV party fully expecting Tyson to quickly dispatch Buster Douglas and when Tyson went down you could have inserted softballs into our stunned, open mouths. It reminds you that the dream is what creates that burning hunger inside a fighter. Once that dream has been realized, the real challenge is finding a way to keep that hunger alive. Not an easy thing to do when you suddenly have more money than God and women lined up like vipers to get their piece of you.

Yea but he beat buster that night , 13 seconds Douglas got. The official ringside counter had him out and let him up on 9 where as he counted Mike out at 9 smh Don King had his hand in that pot there cuz Mike had a intense fight with him earlier about his money, but Don escaped the altercation by showing Mike the new video game Punch Out. I remember watching that fight with my whole boxing club and we were all very disappointed and we vcr taped and dubbed it. I remember growing up counting to that getting past 10 no matter how slow we counted. Lesson learned there love all but trust few to none because there is always a few you can trust with your life especially if the task has given a few times and they did just that.
