thats probably my biggest issue. The best dont fight the best. All the top guys, they call each other out, they talk smack to each other, but we all know they are not going to fight. Matchups that make sense would never happen. Say what you want about the UFC, but they put on the fights the fans want to see and for the most part, they follow a ranking system. You cant really duck someone because if both parties keep winning, they will eventually fight.

It hurts people that are trying to get into boxing as well. Imagine explaining to someone new to boxing about that thousands of belts there are and world champions in boxing. They will just say, why can't there just be one champion? If boxing had 1 Champion in every division we'd see the best fight the best and it'd bring big PPV numbers and eyes to the scene. Right now in boxing, it feels like everyone is getting awarded with a participation belts. It's very stupid and weird, hence why I am purely a UFC fan or just an MMA fan in general. In MMA, there are other promotional companies but each one has one belt for each division. Another thing is in MMA you can lose a fight and always come back with popularity etc. In boxing, if you lose that undefeated status it is as if it's the end of the world.

as an MMA fan, it's so weird to look over at a fellow combat sport and see this complex of a system being used. It's confusing as hell whenever I do watch boxing. While there are other big promotions in MMA such as PFL, ONE, and Bellator, it's almost unanimously agreed upon that the UFC champion is the best fighter on the planet in that division period. Also, the number of weight classes in boxing surprises me as well. The UFC has 8 men's weight classes and 4 women's weight classes, while pro boxing recognizes 17 weight classes. Idk it just seems like another way to make more boxing titles because the UFC operates fine with their 9 total weight classes

When you say MMA, you mean UFC? People tend to associate MMA wth UFC a lot. There are many promotions out there. While it's a sport, different mma promotions have their own set of rules that's why a UFC champ can't call out a fight to a ONE champ. But it may only happen if the two companies have a joint event to unify the titles and agreed to have a common set of rules. MMA is still growing, and time will tell if it'll end up like boxing with one set of rules, but multiple championships.

If that is true and then there are 4 main belts......In boxing, you could have 12 different champions where the UFC would only have one. LMK if this is wrong, but yea, confusing and too many belts.

MMA and boxing have the same system. Both have multiple governing bodies within the sport. In MMA however the UFC is a little bigger then its closest two competitors in ONE Championship and Bellator so its easy to get confused and think its the UFC thats the main governing body. If boxing fans valued the lineage more to the point that it would hold more weight than the belts themselves, then maybe we'd see more superfight. Alltho there's another big hurdle in the way and thats the tv/streaming networks themselves.

Come on, there are so many problems caused by boxing politics. Do you really think these commissions will just decide to work with each other. With all the promoters, needy fighters and politics in the way, the problem will NEVER be resolved. This situation will just keep growing worse. As for the fighters getting paid, it's all great and all, but they should still atleast reduce some of the belts, because what the fans want is still important. What you need is one world champion at each weight class. Every other boxer can choose which organisation they want to work up the ranking of. Once a fighter becomes WBC/IBF or what Ever that franchise’ champion can then fight the single world champion and if they win they drop the current title and become the world champion. This could rotate between boxing organisations each taking a turn. You could in essence have 4 world title fights for the single belt per year. Plus many other individual title fights to become each bodies champion.

Someone with big pockets or enough wealthy investors would need to not only make a seperate belt but a promotion along with that belt (like the ufc), however, the twist would be that anyone who fought in this league would be prevented under contract, from holding any of the other belts from the other governing bodies. It would take time, but eventually boxing fans would start to watch this league as they would offer the fights people truly want.

This is the worst era of boxing in terms of the proliferation of belts. Each weight class can literally have 4 “world champions” who can “hide” from the other “champs” and never fight them. Boxing desperately needs one governing body, one belt and SAME DAY weigh-ins to see who the BEST in the division actually is! If boxing had one champ in each division again, the sport would skyrocket in interest again. Having ONE identified champ in each division builds more interest and makes charismatic and engaging champs household names.

One thing I don't see people bringing up in the comment section is that boxers only have so many fights in them, and if they wanna get out of the business without serious head trauma, that number is pretty low. Sure in basketball and football, there is a certain time where you age out, but in boxing the physical toll each match takes on you is much higher. Therefore, fighters don't want to fight a bunch of bouts to win a belt. Nor do they want to fight a very difficult opponent which might seriously injure them if they already have their bag. I agree that more competitive matches would be more compelling as a viewer, but as a boxer the current competitive market of belts is ideal. Less bodily risk, equal potential reward. That being said, a balance needs to be struck. We don't want fighters having to jump in 100 rings to get a belt, but we also want to see them perform at their highest physical potential like all sports. That's why watching Muhammad Ali fight was so compelling: he entered that ring willing to put everything he had on the table no matter the cost. Unfortunately, the greatest paid the price for it, but influenced millions while doing so. I hope we can come up with a system that still pushes fighters to their limits and makes them a living without all this bs belt headache or excess blood being spilt.

Wouldn't it make sense to have Belts for each continent, then an overall World Champion belt? and in order to be eligible to compete for World Champion you have to own the continental belt at the time. So at the very least there would always be 7 Competitors for the World Champion Belt, all of whom are the best on their respective continents and they have to fight each other. So top boxers are fighting top boxers and there is a magnitude surrounding it.

The promotions are a bigger issue than the sanctioning bodies. The best not fighting the best because of these organizations is a little bit of myth to me. We had 3 undisputed fights with in a 12 month span, we had the 2 best just fight at 130, we are most likely getting a Heavyweight undisputed fight between Fury and Usyk which hasnt happened since the 3 belt era, and once Donaire got a belt again we got the rematch at bantam that everyone was asking for. If one promotion has all the belts they will happily make undisputed and unification bouts, but when it comes to cross promo that's when the issues arise. We may never get beterbiev vs Bivol or Benavidez vs Andrade because promotions like PBC hate sharing revenue with other promotions unless it is a huge PPV bout such as Wilder vs Fury. I think people waiting for Spence vs Crawford is just blowing this narrative out of proportion. But multiple promotions isn't a bad thing overall, it gives fighters choices if they feel one promotion is not treating them right and stops monopolistic practices like what goes on with the UFC.

I believe that each division and promotion should have a single championship belt. While the example of the UFC using "one belt" might be cited, it's important to consider other organizations like Bellator and ONE, each with their own distinct belts for various divisions. To enhance the competitive landscape, I propose adopting a system where one championship belt is designated for each division within a promotion. This approach ensures that the top contenders in each weight class vie for the singular title, ultimately consolidating the best talent within the organization. This strategy has the potential to maintain profitability for promotions, as the exclusive focus on one champion per division can elevate the significance of each title and attract more attention to crucial matchups. Additionally, the possibility of unifying belts across promotions in the future could create high-stakes, cross-organizational events, generating increased interest and revenue for the sport.

So this i a long proposal but what do you guys think of it? They need a Supreme council that arranges fights, only between champions. Almost like how soccer does the champions league. A competition between national Champs and top teams to decide the Supreme champ every year. The belt orgs are too strong to get rid of, like the english and spanish league. But if we make a new stronger org that has power to make them work together and force fights itd be much better. That org would take the current belt holders and possibly top contenders if needed and force them to fight for the supreme belt. Make the belt the next best thing to undisputed champions, and push the holder of that belt to become undisputed. That would take power away from the orgs and force them to at least compromise. After one or two supremacy bouts most divisions will have an undisputed champ. give them power to force legacy fights, and strip organizations belt holders for not honoring their obligations to the supremacy belt, have a contender take the regular belt and go into the supremacy belt. And the Supreme champ can challenge any belt holder in the weight class above, INCLUDING THE SUPRME BELTs. So charlo canelo and haney would be Supreme undisputed champ. They would be grandfathered in and have to defend that belt. The Winner of spence crawford will be the same. Any champion can fight another for the Supreme belt and first to get in in a weight class hold it to incentive fighter to go for it immediately. if two other champions fight and unify they don't get full credit for it, only the man who beats the the first supreme champion can claim that honor.

The WBC is based in Mexico, WBO is based in Puerto Rico, WBA Panama, and IBF New Jersey. Even if US or EU lawmakers intervene only 2 of the bodies would be subject to their laws as only the IBF and WBO are US based and the two most known bodies are international

@@ericktellez7632 wtf are you talking about? AJ did indeed try and duck Usyk. Usyk came into heavyweight and tore it up and he refused to give him a fight until he had no choice but to fight or be stripped. The WBO literally had to step in and tell Joshua he has to fight Usyk or he’d be fined and stripped Fury also ducked Usyk as a mandatory instead fighting Wilder another time and he’s actively ducking him right now as he’s trying to make a Joshua fight instead of fighting the champion Usyk

Just do it like the UFC? Am I wrong here? To me the UFC champions all have meaning as there is just one per weight division meaning they are the CHAMPION of the division. To be the best you have to fight the best.

What people don't understand is thatthe belts aren't the problem, the politics are the problem. Personally I like that there's belts other than "world champion", like the regional belts and such because they're a nice way to form a benchmark for progress and create a good pathway. And the reason for multiple "World Champions" is because different promoters/companies, and that will never change, but there's only 1 undisputed so it's all well and fine in my opinion if the politics didn't exist

Should keep it at the 4 belts and get rid of these meaningless ‘Regular’ and ‘Super’ belts as well as the Franchise belts, but the sanctioning bodies will never do this
