Lime Surface Finish: Lime Wash

Lime is an age old binder which was used as a construction material worldwide before it was replaced by cement in the 1950s. At Aanandaa, we chose to build our #sustainablehouse with lime as the primary binder material along with rammed earth and stone.
In this video series, we are partnering with Malvika Mehta, Founder of MLIME BUILD LLP, on understanding lime as a binder, it's properties, ways to include it in your building, and its pros and cons vis a vis cement.
The closed loop of lime's lifecycle is why it is sustainable, recyclable, low energy and more relevant than ever before. Companies like MLIME, and people like Malvika are helping house builders adopt this material with standardised products, on site training and theoretical know how.

It will depend on the labour cost. You'll have to ask around locally

Thank you for making these videos on lime. I am absolutely loving them. I have 1 question related to color pigments. These color pigments are also made up of chemicals. So, they will also emanate chemicals inside house if applied on internal walls. So, If you used any eco-friendly color pigments for your building then please throw some light on that as well.

Please show more examples of the actual product you are showcasing. Installation methods, the process of making it, how many workers it takes to complete a project, etc. etc. There is much content not included in your videos about lime. In the case of this lime wash, are you really expecting homeowners to fully cover their houses every single year with your product? That sounds extremely inefficient and expensive. I am fully supportive of lime usage in all its many variations, but this lime wash protocol is a tall order for most people to accomplish. Thank you and please continue this series on lime.

Nice effort as awareness. But can you also make videos on doing, implementation please. So that we ourselves can do it. Perhaps even constructing a small livable and lovable house from scratch including interior design etc

All these video clips are from when we made our own house. In the day to day pressure of making the house, we missed out on some videos. So hopefully you can understand from the commentary and stitch together an SOP!
