What is the best drywall texture for limewash? I have a choice between orange peel and spanish knockdown. Thanks!

I wish I would have seen the finished wall, and an explanation of the wall prep before the treatment would be helpful. For instance, can it be applied to new drywall, etc. But this was VERY helpful for the technique needed to apply the product. Thank you.

Somewhere in the video he talks about the importance of the sealing primer that he used before he started

Can you spray on the first layer? I have a huge room and to do this technique twice would be a nightmare. I can’t imagine doing it twice or do you at least make a primer with the same color mixed in so I can just do one coat?

LoneFox used Dolphin for one of his bedroom make over and it was gorgeous. The application method left more variations than in this tutorial. I love how subdued and the fact that there is less movement in your application. I might order a few gallons to do my bedroom.

I applied the first coat of Speakeasy on top of white lime prep coat. I'm wondering if I have "over worked" brushing it out. There are several very light spots that seem like the lime is more prominent. In this video it doesn't look like you go to great lengths to "stretch" the paint out.

The walls we have are textured. Would we be better off using your Roman Clay or could I use the Limewash? Any suggestions would be great!

For textured walls we would recommend Lime Wash! Roman clay is ideal for smooth drywall.

Hello! I ordered a gallon of this paint in Dolphin color as well. Since I was shipping to Canada, I decided to get my own brush. On the Portola website, the description of the brush shows "masonry brush" which is what I see on google/vlogs/instructions for limewash paint. However, in this video, it looks like he is using just a regular flat paint brush. Can you please advise which type of brush we should be using for limewash applications? Thank you!

It might be easier to skim coat the surface with some joint compound, but it's not totally necessary for our Lime Wash. Shoot us an email and I can send you some pictures of Lime Wash over orange peel. info@portolapaints.com

I want to use lime wash paint on my exterior picket fence. Will I need 2 coats ? It is an awful lot of fence!

  • @portolapaints

It really depends! Two coats will ensure full coverage and more two tone variation. However one coat can still give a nice whitewashed effect, you can even water down the coat to see more of the fence underneath! Feel free to call us at our shop if you would like to discuss further :)

The Lime Wash finish will have some texture from the brush strokes. However, our Roman Clay product will have a smooth finish if you were interested in a smooth finish.

You never start lime-wash paint from the edge/corner of wall. You start about 5 inches from edge and then start brushing outward in a cloud like pattern.

not trying to be rude. but i'd seriously like to know... do you lose credibility by not removing that wall plate and just cutting up to it? And curious if you removed the painters tape while the paint was still wet or just left it until after the second coat?

Production painting vs. "Artistic" painting. (Watching this video as a field sup who has to send a commercial painter to do one wall of a fancey cloths store in this product because some college graduate architect thinks it's a good idea!🙄)
