Even the films like Fern Gully since some modern people consider those such as pixies later variations of elves Plus the animated film and TV series of Trolls as well as A Troll In Central Park if you ever wished to talk about the hidden neighbors of the ancient elves. I always thought there were three types whenever I read to Poetic & Prose Edda. The Light Elves, who were ethereal luminescent creatures, resided within a sort of palace that’s surrounded by a lush expanse of wilderness - since the Elves are sometimes associated with the Vanir, and also because they occupy a “Heaven.” For the Dark Elves, I simply imagined them as twisted, subterranean grey-skinned warriors who were often caught in the midst of something nefarious. I imagined their homes as haphazardly constructed villages within large caverns or caves. For the Black Elves, or Dwarves, I imagined them more like a human - but with dark skin and ability to craft some pretty complex things, and though they would be often associated with mischief. They were also subterranean, well, maybe some of them who required easy access to resources. Other than that, I imaged that they lived in fields sparsely populated with trees, and where the sky was always dim - never day, or night - just a dull gray. But that’s just how I imaged them 🤷‍♂️ I find myself so interested in them, mostly because there’s hardly any information

It's definitely a possibility that all 3 are separate - I wish we could go back in time to find out and document the old stories, unfortunately so many of them are lost!

@@AnnaBridgland Yeah, it really is. If you haven’t seen already, God of War’s take on the Elves are probably my favorite- as while it definitely deviates from the “source material,” it also utilize the vagueness behind the elves to their advantage, which allows for a lot of room for creativity. The novelization of the game describes them as this: “They spied another Ljósálfar perched atop a rock ridge fifty paces distant, wearing a white robe. It stood no taller than Loki, with straw-colored hair, cherub face, and armed with a glowing spear. A brilliant white aura bathed light over him. It seemed to be a sentry near the realm tower. Moments later, a Dökkálfar, clad in black leather armor, with bat-like wings and piercing dark pupils, dove in from high in the sky to stab the Ljósálfar, retreating with it in its clutches to gain altitude before releasing the struggling body to plummet back to the ground.” And “”That way is blocked," Loki griped. They diverted to an ornate doorway leading out of the temple. When Fárbauti pushed open the enormous oak doors, a parade of Ljósálfar waiting outside pushed past them, reclaiming their temple. Loki turned about to stare in silent awe while they floated majestically by. But as he tracked them, his look landed on his father. His wonder turned to a scowl.”
