LiftMaster MyQ not connecting to Wi-Fi - Solved

If your LiftMaster MyQ is not connecting to WiFi after any changes to your home WiFi network, then this simple fix of resetting the MyQ to erase all previous WiFi setting will get you back online.
It was pretty frustrating for me before I figured it out.

Thank you! About 50 trips up and down the ladder following their instructions with no success, then this solved the problem in about 30 seconds.

Hahahah. Me too. Freaking ladder and connecting and disconnecting. So frustrating and he gave us a six seconds fix. Awesome.

I was able to get one of my LiftMasters to reconnect after about a hour of frustration and language not suitable for little ears, but the other one refused to cooperate. You rock, dude! I wish MyQ would have smart, easy fixes like you. Next major issue is getting them to allow us to open the garage door with voice commands.
This was a huge help, thank you. Our last modem/router combo died almost a year ago and every couple months I kept trying to reconnect our doors. I could tell it had something to do with the units not wanting to connect to the new router. I certainly won’t forget this in the future!

This just resets to factory settings for new router correct??? The remote controller still works still weather u connected to new router or not?

Bless you! I spent at least 2 hours over 2 days going back & forth with the MyQ & LiftMaster instructions. As you said, the instructions they provided were not specific enough. They tell you to hold the black button about 3 seconds until you hear a beep - WRONG! As you stated, you need to hold the button at least 6 seconds & UNTIL ALL LIGHTS ARE NO LONGER LIT. Thank You!

ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?! I spent hours (YES HOURS!) going back and forth between tp-link, frontier, and Liftmaster. No one could get my opener to connect. After all that, with your one video, in seconds I was connected. THANK YOU SO MUCH, YOU ARE THE MAN!! Oh, and one other thing, I haven't been able to connect for 3 years because I thought my signal was to weak from my supplied modem router. So I got a much better one of my own (TP-Link) and thought the problem was solved. So as you can see your video just solved years of frustration. Again, thank you so much.

Amazing that they don’t include this in the app directions; I don’t know how many attempts with the yellow button I tried (the manual method shown in the app) before getting too frustrated and leaving it for months later. Repeat 3-4x and I finally decided just to google it. Thank you!

I initially got my LiftMaster MyQ connected and then changed my wi-fi network password. I wasn't able to reconnect even after following instructions. After watching this video, everything is connected and working as it should! Thanks for the fix!!!
This worked, thanks so much! And in case anyone is wondering, I'm almost certain this trick does NOT reset or remove other traditional garage openers. So that's good if you want those to still work.

👏Perfect! This was my same problem and I tried using the My Q site to get it reset for weeks. Then I discovered this video and it was just the thing I needed to get it working again. LiftMaster/Chamberlain need to adopt this video to explain how to reset the Garage Door Opener when you change routers!

You are a genius. I cannot believe how uselessthe instructions on the Chamberlain website are. I have tried following them for hours on and off over a year long period quitting over frustration. And this video has solved the issue. It is totally embarrassing to the company - but a huge thank you.

I have the new Google Nest WiFi and could not get this working and I tried every single option. I even tried moving the WiFi Access point further away forcing a 2.4Ghz connection and nothing. After seeing this video it worked IMMEDIATELY!!!!!! Thank you so much !!!
Being a systems programmer, I found an easier solution. My one MyQ garage door opener would not connect after we experienced a power outage. The light on the back of the unit was blinking (as the video shows). So rather than reset it to the factory settings by pushing in the button, I simple unplugged the garage door motor, waited about 30 seconds and then plugged it back in. This would allow it to go through it's boot-up and diagnostics [once again]. It worked. Now I can open and close the door from my iPhone. More tech stuff if you're interested: After obtaining a new Verizon router for home, I renamed the router to what I had before with the same password. This is done by going into the Administrator settings (real easy) BEFORE connecting it to my home network (aka: plugging the ethernet cable into the back of the router). This rename was done so my two dozen WiFi device would not have to be reconfigured to the new name and password. The devices would "think" they're simply re-connecting to the same network router, as before.

Your recommendation to unplug the power cable and plug it back in does not work for me. The LS-8900w liftmaster I have fails to connect to my existing network and I've got 2 routers with providing 2 different class C IP address ranges through DHCP. One is a Bell modem/router the other is a Wifi6 Asus router. Network logs show the garage door opener wifi module (by mac address) fails to establish a connection but context is missing. Gonna try the factory reset on the garage door opener, probably will work.

Just stumbled on this video looking up programming a new remote. Man, I have been fighting this issue for over a year! THANK YOU! I had called tech, I was just outside of my warranty, so they offered over the phone only...otherwise it was $140 to come out and troubleshoot. Not happening. Would have been real difficult to ask if I changed router, or to just describe the buttons/colors on the main unit. Wow.

I was combing through the manuals and Chamberland web posts (which doesn't mention this at all), trying different devices, did a factory reset according to the manual, rebooting, etc. and nothing worked; was getting frustrated! I was actually on hold waiting to speak with a Chamberland tech and found this post. Immediately tried and it worked!! Thanks!! I think Chamberland needs to put a link to this video on their website!
