    Thank you so much for this video, I’m moving to Portland in about 6 months from BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA. I’m super nervous yet again so excited to step outside my comfort zone and explore different parts of the world. I am a little nervous about finding black spaces, where I can connect with people but your video really gave me relief that I can fit into this new city. THANK YOU and THANK YOU!

    Hello, I just moved here in March. I am from Louisiana and about 5 hours from Dallas. I am used to the gloomy days, I lived in Denver before moving here. I would say take you some vitamin D. For the food I heard a lot of great things about Matts's BBQ, and for soul food try screen door. I would also recommend a food cart called chicken and guns. I am a foodie so if you have any recommendations please share them.

    I’ve been feeling the pull to Portland…from Philly. The weather is the SAME here in the winter. It amazes me no one talks about how similar the weather in the NE area is to Portland/Seattle, especially since we haven’t been getting nearly as much snow as we used to. To me, it feels like a dead zone of hustle and bustle, smog and dread, moving fast to go nowhere lol.

    Hi! I have another video on this, but honestly neighborhoods will depend on your specific needs/lifestyle. Beaverton, Hillsboro are more suburban and secluded from the city. NW/Slabtown has a lot of older apartments but very charming area close to dining, shopping and entertainment. I also hear there are some really cool neighborhoods on the SE side but I’m not as familiar with that area!

    Oh! I feel like on *average* rent can be around $1500-1700 but obviously that can range can change based on the neighborhood you’re in and size of the space. Hope that helps!

    I wouldn’t recommend moving here as Black person, it’s super segregated and the KKK operated here until the somewhere around the early 90s right by the one “black neighborhood.” The black population is like less than 5% and is the smallest minority group in Portland, which is continuing being pushed out. The white liberal people are the typical passive aggressively racial ignorant who tell you they voted for Obama twice unprompted (but then voted for Trump). The Black community she’s referring is mostly the typical Light skinned folks with a Black father and a White mother archetype that participate heavily in respectability politics. “Girrrrl, you in danger. The amount of Black folks that I personally was acquainted and classmates with who were ok white folks say the N word with an A was very uncomfortable. Oregon is essentially white utopia, it once the Whites only state, and you couldn’t own property as a black person until the mid-90’s.

    Is it expensive to live in Portland?

  • @anthonyfox477

    @anthonyfox477

    Жыл бұрын

    It's relative - if you're from LA, NYC, SF etc. it's cheaper for sure. If you're from smaller towns or low cost of living cities in the Midwest (for example), you're in for some sticker shock. Housing is the big one - low supply and pretty spendy to rent or buy.

    I hope someone informs her that Oregon was once the only whites only state. And the “designated black neighborhood” was located in close proximity to the KKK who operated until before the mid 90s, so do the basic math…

    You would be surprised how black people who grew up here didn’t know any this. Be prepared and expect that a a very good amount (particular the men)of people in your community to not have solidarity with you because I’ve witness my Black friends laughing at Anti-black jokes, or randomly shitting on black women by other black women. I hope you are able built a network of a community. ❤❤
