Life’s a scream: Bobby Gillespie takes a trip down memory lane

Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie is taking a trip down memory lane with the release of his autobiography Tenement Kid.
The tenement he is referring to is his first family home on Palermo Street in Glasgow’s Springburn, where he spent the early years of his life.
STV News took Gillespie to see his former primary school, Hyde Park. “I enjoyed primary school, yeah,” he says. “It was a lovely period of my life.”
Recalling the fun he had with his friends, sledging down the hill at the back of his school on his “ma’s tea tray”, his early memories of Springburn are largely ones of adventure and discovery.

Ah, Bobby- he comes across as beautiful man. Only this morning my wee girl asked me who I preferred out of Primal Scream and The Beatles. Still thinking about that one and it's lunch time. Maybe (maybe) Primal Scream. In the early 90's Screamadelica landed in my life like an atom bomb. And I've been feeling the love ever since. I've loved every minute of being with you all at the gigs. Come Together ❤

Tenement Kid is a great read. He's a very good story teller. Would love a follow up about the Vanishing Point/Xtrmntr years. That's when I think Primal Scream were at there best

If you're into Primal Scream or enjoy rock biographies or even what Scotland used to be like. I can heavily recommend Tenement Kid. It's one of the best rock biographies I've read, he can really write and it's both entertaining and interesting. I read it straight through over two days, it's a proper page turner.

@@salgfrancisco It does, lots of really interesting stuff. If you're into that sort of music, I've just read Will Sergeant's [from Echo and the Bunnymen] autobiography [Bunnyman] and that's a really good read too.

If you think he's such a great guy, read keyboard player Martin Duffy's sons statement about how he treated his dad in the lead up to his death. Shameful.

Springburn’s finest. Good to see the pictures of the old Springburn and the interview outside Springburn Library on Ayr Street. Incredibly, BG grew up within 100 yards of where Molly and Tom Weir, and Mo Johnston lived too. Small world!
