Life of a Woodsman - Processing Beavers for Fur and Food
Ойын-сауық
This is a quick look into the tools I use to break down wild game when I'm in the backcountry. A very basic tool kit that's light, easy to carry, and doesn't take up much room inside of a pack. Now that these beavers are processed I'm ready to begin cooking up a delicious beaver stew! Stay tuned.
Thank you to everyone who watches!

I know this isnt for everyone and you might find some hate, but I think its important for people to see trades that provided for people for centuries.

Thanks for showing us your beaver!
Nice work - both with the traps and the processing. Nice to be able to keep it simple with easy-to-get knives. A little patience while processing goes a long way!
Thanks for sharing.
Figured the actual processing would be off camera, no worries as I get to see plenty on the Outdoor channels on Dish. Meat looks delicious, what time is supper? A smoker will be a welcome addition to the camp as well as a hide rack for pelts. Maybe those videos will be a bit longer😉 Congratulations!
I really enjoy the serie so far! I wish the video were longer🤞
Just gotta say how much I'm enjoying this series! Thanks for sharing my friend 🤠
That turned out really well. Cheers, and God Bless! ✌️🇨🇦
I would love to try it. We don't have beaver where I am in Tennessee. LOL
Really enjoying the series. Thank you!
Another great video Ryley!
Looking forward to seeing the building and use of the smoker.
Keeping it real. Nice one!
This is an absolutely wonderful and informative series! Don’t listen to the haters and feel the need to spare us from what you’re doing. We know the humane way these animals were taken and can appreciate the care you take in your craft! Thanks so much for your videos!
Wow, flees on an animal that lives in the water. I learn something every day.

When I was young and began trapping I was shocked that beavers could have fleas.

Great job 👏 Amazing video ❤
For what it's worth, some of us who are not from Beaver country would like to actually see how you process those critters. That's part of why we tune-in; to see things we haven't personally experienced. As for the squeamish, they can fast-forward the content. Thanks. 🦫
Great video Kusk I am really enjoying this series!
looks delicious!!!!!! Beaver meat is actually quite tasty. I'm telling you that tail is a real treat if you have never tried it.
I've trapped many beaver and the meatis very good. While cooking in a crock pot, it smells like vegetable stew. I tried roasting the tail, but it didn't turn out well. Maybe something wasn't done right.

I've never had much luck with the tails either. The meat is far better in my opinion. Thanks for watching!
Processing beavers hehe 😂
I really love this series but just wish the videos were longer, I can understand if you are uploading this using mobile data out in the field
Well done 👍
Very cool, kind wish you went into more detail on the butchering process, or maybe not, anyway keep up the good work
👍👍👍
Great video Riley, but could you do an R18 version where we see the actual breakdown? As someone who has processed turkeys, geese, chickens, and rabbits, I'd be very interested in the specifics of the job. And for those who think all food arrives in styrofoam and Seranwrap, they can skip the whole thing! Loving the whole Woodsman series though, kind regards from the UK.

I think the problem is more likely to be KZread flagging the video as gruesome content or similar, which could have further effects on his account.

Theres some gland in beaver you need to watch out when processing , its not hard when you are aware of it . Havent done it though , saw a dvd way time ago about this subject . Maybe library would be good place for detailed video tutorial about processing ?
Nice video. As a veterinarian I highly encourage everyone to do as you demonstrated and wear gloves when dealing with game. It's far too easy to catch some diseases or parasites when dealing with animals and not performing a good hygiene routine.
Good luck
Very good.
Was waiting on this one 🎉
Looks like you got some excellent meat off them! I'm looking forward to the stew😋
Oooh them backstraps look Delicious! Get the Butter and Garlic.
Was looking at that butter knife and was wondering what you were going to use that for, and working clear of you camp site, brilliant! Great little video, was wondering are you not going to process the beaver tail for either food or process into something else?
gorgeous
Love to see it
Sorry you didn't show the cleaning. A skill of its own.
I've eaten just about every game animal imaginable, including beaver once. I don't know if it was the way it was cooked, but it was by far the worst meat I've ever had. I'd try it again given the chance, but I don't live in a high beaver population area
nice
Hello! You're a bushcrafter and a trapper like me. I Found your second channel about trapping 🤝
Those are really fancy pelts ! I'm very curious on how you're video making process Do you record everything first, and then break down the recording down the line, or are you making trip there every weeks ?
Always wanted to try beaver, whats it taste like? I imagine a bit of a woody/eathyness to it lol.
Did you harvest the castoreum? You could’ve made some backcountry “vanilla” extract lol
Dang, never seen a beaver processed before, was hoping you'd show it, cool nonetheless though.
That almost looks like beaver bacon😆
Hi There, I'm a vegetarian and love all animals too much to be able to eat them. I stumbled across your channel as I'm interested in nature and bushcraft and so subscribed but today was surprised to see this in my feed. You are free to follow whatever principles and diet you wish of course so will scroll past this one and see what pops up next. I appreciate your skills and the time you take to show us a glimpse into the skills you practice.
Total bummer for those Beaver's 🤷
some salt and pepper and ur good to go
"Tastes like chicken"?
What does beaver meat taste like? Do you fry it grill it bake it slow. Cook slow smoke?Lol?
how beavers can have fleas if they swim underwater all day long ?
As an interested subscriber... I'm looking for at least 15 min or longer videos . Just a friendly fyi. Take care
Yes, let's not offend anyone.
Really interesting and not something we would realistically get to see in the UK.
Really surprising how much meat you can get off a beaver.
insert BOBER KURWA meme
I hate that youtube censorship and activist karen's keep everyone else from learning how to skin and break down the beaver.
YT may have changed recently but I have seen various animals skinned and butchered here.
Horrible that anyone would kill a beaver in this day and age.

I'm not a troll. I subscribed because youtube recommended a video from this channel on camping so I subscribed. Then I saw a dead animal video this morning in my subscriptions. I'm a wilderness hiker and that is why I subscribed but murdering animals for no freaking reason really annoys me. We are not surviving in the wilderness anymore. The pioneers nearly drove beavers into extinction along with otters and a whole lot of other animals that God put here on this earth. We have technology now to grow ample food. There is no reason to go out and murder your brothers and sisters with fur. Peace out buddy. Hope I never meet you in the wilderness. @@jefflink4671

Its even worse in this day and age someone who would say this would just as soon eat meat from a slaughter house and then calim morale superiority just because they have distanced themselves from the act of raising killing and processing there food
Shame the second beaver caught was so young.......... 😥 But it is the cycle of life I guess.
How did you get them? They clearly weren't trapped.

Lol! While I’m fully aware that I wear leather and eat meat and all of that I’m simply saying - c’mon man - really? Beavers? Just let them be bro! Like why? I’m not a veggie/vegan or anything of the sort. I eat meat! I wear leather. I’m just saying with alllll of the available critters out there you gotta got for the beaver? That animal is a genius stroke in evolution and engineering! It helps the ecosystem with its dam creation! They build predator resistant homes! And it’s allll just encoded into their DNA! Of alll the critters out there just let these genetically designed engineers have their peace! AITA here? C’mon!!! They’re cute and diligent and hard working too!!! 🦫🦫🦫
