Life Inside The Hermit Kingdom | VICE on HBO

North Korea is locked in a dangerous game of brinksmanship. The isolated country has tested over a dozen ballistic missiles this year and continues to develop its nuclear weapons program.
VICE traveled to the Hermit Kingdom during the annual Day of the Sun celebrations as global tensions reached a fever pitch. As North Koreans celebrated the 105th birthday of their country's founder, Kim Il-sung, correspondent Charlet Duboc sought to learn firsthand how its citizens are reacting to the escalating crisis.

Eric Young VFX I hope you don't think Trump will keep NK from having nukes that can reach all of America because it will happen for sure-unless you want a war even worse than the Iraq war? It's the only way the Kim's feel they can hold onto power-in other words they won't back down like VICE said in the blurb. Short of all out war nothing will stop them-it's how the world and especially America deals with them that has to be examined. And that fool Trump doesn't know the first thing about NK so his "fire and fury" rhetoric will mean nothing to the NK leadership-so,e "deal maker" he's turning out to be

Every time I see a reporter say anything to a North Korean citizen, I instantly fear for the North Korean's life. You never know if someone's observing them, and if they'll be punished for what they say or do. I know that VICE is trying to prove a point, but just tell the camera, later, that that was a missile. Take care with that tour guide's life because, unlike the reporter, she doesn't get to leave after they're done filming.

Anyone who thinks that Pyongyang isn't just an elaborate prop for PRK to show the rest of the world needs to read "The Aquariums of Pyongyang". It is written by a young man who managed to escape NK and spent his childhood, with his family, in a remote NK work camp. They were eventually relocated to Pyongyang. The book details the horrors of work camp life and the absolutely rigid controlled conformity of life in Pyongyang. It will break your heart to know how joyless the average North Korean's life is.
