Like me you probably have high porosity hair and blow drying it is your best option. Air drying will damage and make high porosity hair look fried/frizzy. The quicker you go from wet to dry will improve help with frizziness. I love redken acid bonding shampoo conditioner to seal cuticle.

I will tell you a secret a high end hair stylist taught me on newbury street in Boston. When you got all the products in your hair to start blow drying, start on one side, put the hair up and blow dry section by section, but realize that warm air makes you being able to shape your hair, so if you want your hair to have volume, after blow drying with hot air upwards you need to follow with cold air, so that when you put the hair down again, it wont fall flat. I'm not sure if I explanied it good, english isn't my main language. You want to cool down the hair after the hot air in order for it to hold it's shape.

I just want to remind women that it is not a flaw to have fine hair. If fine hair is healthy it has actually the best silky quality out there. My hairstylist once told me that fine hair most of the times can handle more styling and even bleaching than thick or curly hair, because of its elasticity. If you struggle with hair loss it has nothing to do with your hair type. Embrace your beauty there is no disadvantage about fine hair.

I feel your stylist told you some true facts. I have a medium thick hair and my hair gets very dry and damaged when ever I get my highlights done. It takes 3 months to recover from that chemical treatment. I am person that loves going to the beach; thats why I get it done in spring , so I can enjoy the salty water in the summer. Also, I can't take heat from hot tools no more than 350.

Tips to prevent hair loss: - don’t use brush, use wide-tooth comb - don’t brush or comb hair whilst wet, hair is at its weakest when wet and it will break - don’t use towel to dry wet hair, use soft cotton t-shirt - don’t pull hair into tight ponytail, it may cause permanent hair loss, a condition called traction alopecia - avoid dyeing and heat styling hair to keep damage to a minimum, I understand heat styling may be unavoidable if you want to volumise your hair - wear a hat to prevent UV sun damage or limit sun exposure These tips and more can be found in Dr Dray’s videos on KZread

Hi Gabi. I’m a licensed cosmetologist (over 10 years now) and I also have fine hair. I actually agree with you-blow drying is essential for achieving volume with fine hair. Using a heat protecting spray will help prevent damage (Redken has a great one). Also, I noticed in the video you went straight to round-brushing your wet hair but that isn’t the best way. You should not begin roundbrushing until it’s about 70% dry. So after you do a basic towel dry so it’s not dripping, use a flat, vented brush…starting from the left side of the head and working around the back to the right, take vertical sections of hair and brush through them downward keeping your diffuser right on the brush bristles. Essentially you are using the air to chase the water down & off your hair. Then when it’s almost dry, begin round-brushing it. Less damage, better results.

Thanks for taking the time to leave some feedback Claire! Yes I talk about that on the channel sometimes too. Rough drying can lead to less frizz, less damage and it's much easier and faster. What helps tremendously with volume is to actually lift the hair 90 degrees from the head when rough drying though.

@@virginiemazy7054 Sure! It’s called “Pillow Proof” Blowdry primer & heat protectant spray. It comes in a translucent pink bottle, speeds drying time, adds shine and works on all hair types and textures. Just make sure you buy it from an ACTUAL salon! NEVER buy them online or from a beauty supply/discount store because professional hair & makeup products are ONLY sold to licensed cosmetologists to prevent diversion, which is a growing problem. Those products are NOT THE SAME, and they are either old/expired, diluted or downright counterfeit. I would not trust buying them from anyone who is not a licensed cosmetologist because we sign non-diversion contracts with the product makers to protect the purity & integrity of the products and receive specialized education & training directly from them on how to use them & we then pass that instruction to our clients that purchase them. They only provide this directly to licensed cosmetologists & You will not get that from a cashier at a beauty chain store.

Silk pillowcases are amazing! Yes, I have to hand wash it, but it holds the hair so well. I had my hair start into male pattern baldness, due to hormone pellets and wrong dosage. I have corrected that, but it takes a long time to re-grow hair. I found Joan Rivers hair powder and it has been amazing. It doesn't budge and it doesn't transfer. Truly a game changer. Thanks for talking about this sensitive subject.

Set your hair when it's wet. Use a leave-in like Rusk Thicker. You can spend a few minutes with your blow dryer going around your head with the rollers still on. Take your hair out and style it, use a volumizing spray where you need it. Basically the roots and a little above your ear. Any place you need it. Lots of volume if you don't want to use the blow dryer.

I already use a silk pillowcase and love your hair cap tip and will be ordering one. Because I'm going through a bad stage of hair loss right now, sometimes I will blow dry my hair without a round brush to get it mostly dry and then instead put in velcro rollers to get the volume and style without the tugging that the round brush does.

Last year, I started losing hair. I used to shampoo everyday, then tried not to shampoo for one week since I rarely left my house. I googled, and found out that when you don't shampoo often enough, the oil clogs the pores, and that causes hair loss. I went back to shampooing everyday, and my hair is healthy and thicker now.

Hi Gabi. I just discovered your channel and I have always had fine thin hair. As I have gotten older I am now 57 it transformed from straight to frizzy wavy to now pretty curly with mixed wave patterns. I had embraced the curly method and my hair is so much healthier without heat styling. With heat and all the appropriate products I could never get a smooth style anymore especially with humidity. Even a salon styling would last a few hours at best. My hair is just too fine and porous. I also have stopped coloring my hair so I’m 60 % grey and the grey has even changed the texture more and constant coloring was damaging my fragile hair even more. Anyway.. my question to you is can you provide styling tips for reduced/no heat methods for thin fine wavy hair. I see that you choose not to go that way yourself but there doesn’t seem to be much info on the wavy curly side for very fine thin hair. Most curly methods involve too much heavy product that just weighs hair like mine down. Thank you for considering this request and thank you for your helpful content.

Octocurl! Robe ties! There are a bunch of heatless ways to get curl. KZread it. Twist two strands toward the back of your head, then twist them together back over front, use a rubber band at the bottom to hold it. Use a dab of gel, I like clear aloe vera, with a few drops of water after you shampoo and condition. Spritz your hair with water after you set it so that it dries fully by morning. To set curl, either sleep in it, or set it for a couple of hours before your event(a cap is great for both methods as it uses your natural body heat). For top volume, I drape the crown of my hair over a headband while I sleep., so it pushes the hair up. You can see that I have white hair that is fine. Heat will burn it yellow.

Just found your channel and you made a subscriber out of me! I have a lot of hair but it’s becoming more fine, especially since it began falling out due to cancer treatments. When the missing hair grew back it was if I had somebody else’s hair.😳 My cowlicks we’re different, I had empty sections around the temple area and some is now a funky type of wave along with the original straight.😫 I’ve never heard of this powder to help camouflage the bare areas. I can’t wait to check out the product! Thank you for all the tips and advice! 🙌🏻💕👏🏻

I’m a licensed hairstylist and can relate to you because my hair is very fine and straight.. nothing wrong with blow drying.. it’s the technique you use and the thermal protectant that is important. One recently purchased a sold pillowcase, I’ll look at the cap but am afraid it would end up n the bed by morning 😆😆

I'm losing my mind over my thinning hair and trying everything. I'm African American but all my life I've had fine strands, it's super straight when relaxed and very fragile, protein treatments keep my hair really strong now. I never knew until a couple years ago that cotton pillowcases we're destroying my hair. So I now also sleep on satin or silk only...if not wearing my sleepcap. That really helped me too and the length of my hair is much, much longer, but now because I'm getting older, it is thinner. I'm taking Collagen, Spironilactone, biotin... It's helped some but still looks limp. :-( These tips on voluminous shampoos I will definitely try. I used to blow out my hair alot back in the day so my hair looked incredible everyday like yours. I'm just so scared of heat now because I'm older. I'm going to try giant rollers. BTW, your hair looks absolutely beautiful! Also, sleep caps have been a tradition for generations of African American women! They really do work IF made of silk or satin, especially if used consistently.

I work at drybar, I love their Triple Sec styling product. Its a volumeizer, textureizer, can also be used as dry shampoo. I like to use it after the blowout. I spray it on the roots, since it can used as a dry shampoo, it'll absorb any excess moisture plus add volume. . They teach us the trick to a lasting blow out is make sure the roots are dry as possible

Hey!! Thank you for your comment! How are you enjoying your silk pillowcase? I have had a hard time finding a good root powder too. Me Cosmetics heard about me and sent me a PR Package and I tried it on myself and MANY MANY clients and I was hooked. It is exponentially better than even Toppiks (which is super famous) in my opinion. What color is your hair? Maybe I can help with a color match. You have to match the roots and not the hair. So if you have a dark blonde root and a light blonde highlight, make sure to get dark blonde for your root coverage color or it will look off.

I'm not sure why I'm just getting the notification today 🤷🏼 lol I'm not sure if u can even see the pic on my thumbnail but, my roots are dark brownish/greyish. Oh, and I'm really enjoying the pillowcase. I was very skeptical, as usual lol but, I'm really really telling a difference. My scalp oils are less prominent, if that makes sense. Also, my hair isn't as flat. I'm not finding a lot of fall out like I did with my cotton pillowcases.

Thanks for the tips!! I’ve always had thin fine hair. I can’t tell you how many hairdressers have told me that thank god I never got a perm in the 80’s or dyed my hair cause I probably would have no hair right now. I’ve learned to: 1. Not use conditioner (I use a leave in spray if my hair really needs it just a few sprays). 2. I try to NEVER use a BLOW DRIER or hair straightener If I do use a blow drier (special occasions or really cold outside). I use volume spray on the roots of my scalp but only when I blow dry I also blow dry my hair with my head upside down to give more volume. 3. I normally use a sulfate free shampoo 4. only wash my hair every other day. 5. Only get my hair dyed my natural color. I’ve done this recently in the last couple of years to cover up the grays, but I get it in my natural color so no bleaching, less harsh on my hair. 6. Careful about what hair ties I use to prevent breaking 7. I take Biotin vitamins to help strengthen my hair and nails My hair is very shiny and healthy just very thin.
