Jennifer, just a lovely video. As a woman who has been happily married for almost 30 years, living well at home will make for a wonderful future for you. It will set a good example for your children and when those children are grown, it will make a very good life for you and your husband to be happy together. You are so inspiring to so many of us. I'm very much looking forward to this series. Much love, Melissa

The internet used to be a time-sucker for me but i limited my time online a year ago or so and have never looked back. Real life is so much more amazing than life on social media. I allow myself youtube time for an hour in the morning while i sip my coffee, before everyone gets up. As for the rest of social media, i am barely on them at all...a few times a week , for just a few minutes. I also cut back on TV..my husband and i watch downton abbey once a week and watch a movie once a week..other than that, pretty much very little or no tv. I spend my extra time reading , or during the day..getting outdoors.

I love the phrase "tending to the home." It's something I so enjoy! The simple task of building a good fire to keep my home cozy is satisfying to me. What drains my time? Playing games on my phone.

For me, my biggest distraction is researching an idea online (i.e. traditional food preparation) and then finding videos that relate to that topic. After I find one video that strikes my interest, I'm fully immersed into the KZread world and I'm almost like an addict, trying to find that next video. I find myself unable to focus on any one thing or idea and just seeking the thrill of finding "another video" or "another idea". I find that the more time I spend online, my ability to focus on any one thing is greatly diminished. I've gone weeks where I only accessed the internet 4 times in 7 days. I found myself better able to focus on my home, husband, and children. I felt like I was able to absorb information in a much more complete way. It was glorious! But, as with any skill, I needed to continue staying offline in order to stay offline! (Kind of that "sleep begets sleep" concept for infants and children!) With winter, I find it so much easier to get sucked into the internet with a cup of coffee and tune out the responsibilities around me. I am making a choice to limit my time in front of screens this season. Clearly, this topic speaks to my core! Thank you so much for sharing with us, Jennifer!

I have the same problem with the internet so I set a timer on my phone. I make the alarm as annoying as possible. It gets me up and moving. With regard to the mindless shopping - I use Amazon so I created a private wish list called "Next Payday". In that wish list I drop anything that comes to mind that I actually NEED. On payday I make my purchases. "I'm not allowed to surf" anymore. LOL

SAME!! But the worst of it is that I research the "idea" to death and then don't "have time" to actually do what I researched, because now I let everything else slide and I'm behind on essential tasks.

My distraction is anything other than what I am 'supposed' to be doing. For instance, if I am supposed to be doing my bills or taxes, then all of a sudden making note cards or folding laundry seems more urgent. Now, if I am supposed to be writing thank-yous or folding laundry, then mysteriously sorting my linen closet seems the thing that is inspiring. Sure, being online is a time-black-hole for me, but my biggest distraction is procrastination. I'm working on it. ;-)

I agree with the comments about wasting time with electronics. It is especially concerning for me because I have 2 children and I want to be the best model for them I can be. I wish we could get rid of our TVs, but my significant other would never agree! I am trying to make changes, but it is so difficult to change habits, especially when they are sitting right in front of you! Thanks for the inspiration!

Yes, it's a constant in our everyday life with so many distractions. I think for me, when I do get moments alone I find it all a little overwhelming, just where do I start? There are so many things on the go; housework, picking up after 3 kids when they go to school (and pretty much all of the time), planning meals, spending time with husband, volunteering at school, doctors appointments, paying bills....the list goes on. I've tried to dedicate 2 days out of the week to focus on the "tasks", the problem definitely lies in the Internet. Sometimes I just want to turn my mind off of the real world and all of the "To do's". I've given myself a few 5 minute "surfing" periods throughout the day to do that, they can become 20 minutes in a flash. I look forward to hearing more on this topic in your series, it's a good one. I love spending time alone in my house, organizing and tidying up my home. You've helped me decide to really focus on more quality moments in 2015. Thank you.

I am currently travelling Europe and UK and noticed that the biggest waste of my time is Facebook. And also you tube. Having said that I am seriously considering keeping your channel as my only subscription because yours is the only one I have truly missed during my time with out constant internet (roaming is expensive so I only use wifi) . Please keep making the great content.

Oh, you described me so well! I was sinking into my chair while I was watching this video, as it's like you were talking directly to me. Yes, I tend to spend way too much time on-line, and I, too, "window shop" and fill my carts with items that I never buy. Sometimes I intend to, or have wishful thinking, or I'm looking for something in particular, but I stay long after I've found my original item. I tend to go down the internet rabbit trails and read blogs that link to another, then another, and so on, until I've wasted so much time it's embarrassing. I don't watch much TV. Our TV is in a small room off of our living room, and my husband watches a lot, but I prefer to sit in the living room and read. The problem is I read almost exclusively on my Kindle app on my iPad, which makes is really easy to pop over to Facebook for a while. Or peruse blogs, shops, or news. I think electronic books are fabulous, even though when they first came out I refused to part with my books. I still have quite a few books, but I've definitely gone the way of electronics for ease, storage and accessibility. I had a Kindle originally but now find it's just easier to do everything on one tablet. However, since I need to spend less time on-line, I am thinking about going back to the Kindle so it will only have books available for me. Pinterest - I love it but I try to avoid it lately. I'm seeing the same things over and over, and it's a huge time waster for me. Huge. I have been thinking about this quite a bit lately, and you are truly speaking to me this week. Thank you!

Busted! Promising myself that I'll just spend a few minutes reading the news then hours later- that's so me! That's my biggest time waster as well as online perusing and shopping cart filling. There is a term in the 12 step community for it - Time Debting. This bad habit has been on my mind and something I am trying to change. Thanks for mentioning it!

I am so bad about the online shopping and not actually buying anything. The problem is it causes arguments because I'm in my own little world. I really want to be off of this "drug" but it is a tough one. I'm hoping that by focusing on what I want to accomplish I will stop this horrible habit. Thank you for putting this information out there. In this lost and disconnected consumer culture we need all the support we can get.

How you live at home . "Behind Closed Doors".. That is very important to me. I do agree that the internet can be a massive time waster, So, I now have just a few channels that I really enjoy on YT and I will watch those few channels video's. Obviously yours is one of them I do take breaks during the day to relax and sometimes get stuck on Amazon.. At the moment I have over 200 books on my wish list.. Crazy. I know,... Books and Music are my passion.. Pinterest can also eat up time.. but I have curtailed that. Every year I have a Motto. This year's Motto is "365 days of Beauty.". Not just physical beauty- but beauty in all areas.. So I am really focusing on what that represents to me.. in all categories. . At the end of this year I hope to complete the projects I have on my list... So I have already eliminated some of my distractions, Very little time on FB. Although I have never met Madame Chic, I am deeply grateful for the impact that she had on your life and that you are so willing to share your insights Jennifer.. What you share in your books about her and how she lives her daily life is so graceful and elegant.. The role of a woman in her home has become something of a lost art...Maybe I am old-fashioned. but that is okay with me. I am a liberated Domestic Goddess.. Many Blessings. I look forward to the next in this series..

Yes, the internet. I do that with shopping online too. Or pinterest... I can waste a lot of time on pinterest! I've noticed though, if I get online in the morning it tends to be a trend throughout the day and pretty soon I've done nothing. If I start doing other stuff as soon as I get home from dropping my daughter off at school I can go the whole day without internet. Since I do work from home I need the internet though so it's hard sometimes. I only watch 2 shows (Downton Abbey and Mad Men, which the last season is in april) so I'm rarely watching tv. I'd love to see organizing videos with examples from your home.. like a kitchen tour or something.

Jennifer, I think you're too young to remember the TV series "Family" (1976-1980), but check it out if you get a chance. It's a little dated, but the mother in the show is an American version of Madame Chic, right down to her presentable pajamas. Also, I think she's got a 10-item wardrobe...she wears the same things in different episodes.

It's the internet for me, too, but specifically on my iPhone. I truly feel my quality of life has declined since I got that thing. I need to stop using it for my alarm clock, because having it next to my bed is awful. I check it before I sleep (even if it's 2am...like really, what is going to be new at 2am??), first thing in the morning. One of my goals for 2015 is to get a great actual alarm clock and let the iPhone sit downstairs during the night so I can stop this nonsense.
